Chris Perkins @chrisperk · 19m WR Matt Hazel looks good every time I see him. #Dolphins I think our receivers corp is underrated, we do have a lot of potential with them
Their attitudes are very similar. The difference is that Omar flaunts it more. But if you read a lot of Armando, the superiority complex and pettiness on him are tremendous at times. I know beat writers and former beat writers, guys that actually ARE good people, that absolutely hate the guy. I mean, Boomer (@SiClancy) and I have our own story about Armando of course. But there are lots of other examples. For us it was when we were writing for Dave Hyde on the Sun Sentinel blog, Simon was putting together a list of prospects with whom the Dolphins had contact. A lot of the names on that list came from ground level research, talking to agents, players themselves, conversations with other media, etc. That year, Armando decided to employ a draft writer of his own to put up draft information on his blog. The week of the draft, that writer ripped off our list, name for name, mis-spelling for mis-spelling, exact format, etc. He accidentally forgot the corners (the final position group on our list) and added three names of his own to the list...but it was our list. When Simon called Armando out on it saying that he plagiarized the list, Armando flipped out on us. He hurled insults, threatened to sue us, and all the while refused to acknowledge the unquestionably strong evidence that his lackey did indeed rip off the list. In the end the Sun Sentinel heavy hitters got involved and forced capitulation out of Armando, who edited the blog post taking out the list and made a note that his lackey had "inadvertently copied the form, but not the content, of someone else's work"...or some complete BS like that. All I can say is Armando has been around for a long time and so have I, and I've talked to many people, and our experience with him was pretty typical. I believe not too long ago in a private email exchange with a reader he ended up making fun of his being a Vietnam veteran on the basis of those who fought in Vietnam being losers (as in, lost the war). He's a real winner.
it's a process, it takes time to build a culture that can hang with the rest of the world, the good news is that it really started four years ago, and it continued to ascend from that..it's all relative, the more publicity and exposure, the better athletes will come, the crowds will get better, our own league is getting better, better ratings, better salaries, just need the great athletes early in their lives to make a decision to play soccer, then the leagues at that level must stay disciplined in coaching and pushing them.. It's exciting because it's growing fast, we are not pushovers, we have respect, we having a growing fan phase, shoot man, we took over that stadium yesterday..a home field advantage in brasil, for USA soccer??. Wow.. This will trickle down to MLS.
I almost forgot about that, he really came across as a major league douchebag when he went after the guy, the thing too with Armando is while he might appear he is calm in public he will privately lash out at you in the worst way, when I called him out on twitter for stealing info from the Club he sent me a PM telling me I was an ******* and to stop following him, two seconds later he blocked me. He is VERY thin skinned.
Sounds like we're going to hear more about Tannehill struggling. Omar is becoming a fan of JaWuan James.
Andrew Abramson @AbramsonPBP · 3m Jamar Taylor very active today just had INT. Fighting hard for that starting spot.
Chris Perkins @chrisperk · 38s CBs Walt Aikens & Jalil Brown at 2d team. CB Will Davis at 2d team nickel. Normally Jamar Taylor at Aikens spot.
To be fair the guy he was emailing with was making some pretty terrible remarks at Armando having to do with how American he is or some crap like that (on the basis of Armando being Cuban I think). The guy was also clearly in the wrong. But it was incredibly douchy of Armando to fight back at the guy by basically suggesting that all Vietnam vets are losers because they lost the war. Also to be fair to him, when someone comes at me on twitter guns blazing I block them. The difference is I don't send them a DM calling them any names or anything like that. My attitude about that is my twitter page is my house. If you're following me on twitter, it's like you're a guest in my house. If you're going to just insult me, disrespect me, etc...then it's my right to kick you out of my house. I mean if someone clearly doesn't like or respect me, by what error or glitch did you end up following me? On that basis, let me just fix that glitch for you... I guess you can call that thin skinned or whatever. I don't consider it that way.
The Vietnam guy was not being very nice is right but the way Armando reacted told you a lot about him, I mean you don't need a half of a brain to know not to mock war veterans especially when you're a high profile reporter. But if someone calls Armando names and he blocks them I wouldn't call that thin skinned, but I simply told him we were aware of his pilfering info from our secret Club, I'm still amazed how angry that got him even if he wasn't getting info from there.
Two more things of note. I guess Ellerbe is getting some work back in his old MLB spot and Jelani Jenkins is getting work as the other OLB opposite Wheeler. The overall feel I'm getting from today is a TON of mix-and-match of guys being tried with 1st, 2nd, 3rd string units. It's been mentioned Will Davis is getting reps with the 1's at corner as well. Second interesting thing is Walt Aikens is getting work at safety and slot, in addition to corner. That's per Adam Beasley.
I don't really mind that he mocked that veteran, what I mind is that in doing so he mocked a much wider group of veterans. That guy deserved to be mocked, Armando just showed what a douche he is by showing he doesn't really respect any veterans.
Andrew Abramson @AbramsonPBP · 2m Jalil Brown active today, breaks up a pass from Tannehill to Damian Williams Andrew Abramson @AbramsonPBP · 5m They're not in pads but Gibson hit on the shoulder as he makes a catch. Good sign that he's out here practicing a month before training camp Adam Beasley @AdamHBeasley · 6m Now Will Davis with the 1s. Everybody getting a look today. Chris Perkins @chrisperk · 2m Nice catch by TE Michael Egnew on side of field w/3rd & 4th teams. Wonder where he'll fit in this yr.
Rishard Matthews gave up on a route and Tannehill got in his face about it. That's not going to help get him out of Joe Philbin's doghouse. And I believe Philbin does fixate on small details and events like that, probably more than he should.
A note about Dannell Ellerbe getting roasted by Brandon Gibson. Last year Ellerbe was able to look good in coverage because of the responsibilities he had. I don't think he's naturally good at it, especially in a situation where he's got to turn and run, and/or get deep up the field. If he's getting work at Wheeler's position from a year ago, that would make sense as to why Ellerbe finds himself today mirroring tight ends and now wide receivers. Wheeler had to do that a year ago and that's part of what made him such a whipping boy for the fanbase.
Me too. If you watch is interview from the Rookie-Only camp (week after the Draft; it's posted on the Dolphins website) he said that the coaches wanted him focused on learning LG for now to get comfortable with the playbook and playing guard itself. After that, he said they could teach him to play either side. I'm paraphrasing, but the video was still on the site.
Andrew Abramson @AbramsonPBP · 4m Jimmy Wilson made a nice play as Tannehill tried to dump a pass to Hartline. Defense looks strong today.
Yes, it's my opinion. And the opinion a large portion of the American public share. But I get your point, especially about soccer that worldwide it's very popular. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate those sports. I LOVE playing soccer, tennis and even golf under the right circumstances but hate watching other people play them on TV. It just doesn't do it for me. And when I say tricked into liking these things, I'm not generalizing everyone into that comment, but there is such a large portion of the American public that pays zero attention to sports like these until there is a major advertising blitz talking about the major events. Then people watch it and kind of trick themselves that they are into it. Tweeting about it and posting on facebook. But as soon as the advertising goes away, the vast majority of these people go back to paying zero attention to these sports as if they never even existed. If they were real fans, they would follow the lesser known iterations of each.
Wish we had video of this. I think that is a great sign. To me it means that Tannehill is exerting his authority more, which is something he hasn't done enough of the past 2 seasons. I really felt that he should have been taking receivers and linemen to task more last season in particular.
You know all the bars in hermosa right?, there were people looking from the outside trying to get a watch..
Once again, one step at a time.. It's a cool *** game blitz, why Don't ya go to a bar, have a beer, and watch it with your peeps..
I wonder if there's more than meets the eye to all of this surrounding Rishard Matthews. I do remember Ryan Tannehill and Mike Pouncey, yes, that Mike Pouncey, both getting in his face and essentially kicking him off the field in the Cleveland game last year after Matthews got into it with Joe Haden. He's talented, sure, but something is starting to seem amiss, to me anyways.
Andrew Abramson @AbramsonPBP · 12m Tannehill says Jarvis Landry has some of the "strongest hands" he's ever seen on a receiver
It is a cool *** game, DJ. But to play, not to watch, in my humble opinion. Every time the World Cup rolls around people are way into it, and there's all this buzz about how it's going to catch on in the US. Then it goes away and MLS is about as popular as the WNBA. Maybe you're right and it will be different this time. I'll believe it when I see it.
Andrew Abramson @AbramsonPBP · 4m Philbin: Tomorrow we'll work on red zone and unique game situations that don't come up often. Andrew Abramson @AbramsonPBP · 3m Philbin: Appeared defense had a slight advantage today Andrew Abramson @AbramsonPBP · 2m Philbin on offense struggling today: Its just the flow of practice. Going to be days one side of ball has the upper hand. Andrew Abramson @AbramsonPBP · 2m Philbin: Thursday we'll play our spring game, split the team in half and see some great competiveness Andrew Abramson @AbramsonPBP · 2m Philbin on stadium: Shows the commitment that our owner has to make this world class organization, how important it is to South FL Andrew Abramson @AbramsonPBP · 2m Philbin: Unfair to compare Jamar Taylor this year from last year because he wasn't on practice field. He's making plays, you notice him Andrew Abramson @AbramsonPBP · 37s Philbin says he chose not to give Moreno snaps today but wouldn't say why; says he's picking up things well and bringing energy.
They're giving Tannehill a new Ryan Swope. Except the real Ryan Swope ran in the 4.3's and had legit agility/explosive measures...and this new Ryan Swope runs in the 4.6's and had awful agility/explosive measures. There's no denying Jarvis Landry has excellent, excellent hands. Maybe that's all he needs. I'm still a bit skeptical.
