Why would Melo take a 1 year? Risky as ****. No way that happens.

I never believed the Melo to HEAT hype. Smoke, IMO.

So when you said his GAME didn't fit you are speaking to his defense. Ok

For the reasons I listed. If he wants to win that badly, but still get paid... here's how you fit under the Heat's salary cap.

Then take your ring and go get a big contract with LA or something.

That's not necessarily true. While Carmelo isn't an elite defender by any stretch he is an average defender with the ability to be above average at times when he's not forced to over exert himself so much on offense. There are games where I've watched him score 30-40 points and he's literally too tired to play defense because his teammates can't hit a shot and he puts it on himself to play one on three. Not saying it's right but I understand why he does it at times. Either way he's screwed and aside from THJr or a healthy amare those teammates are offensively challenged. It's actually a worse supporting cast then he had in his early years in Denver with billips and nene

This reinforces my point. The Heat aren't prioritizing offense over defense. Carmelo Anthony isn't that type of player.

He didn't reinforce your point at all IMO He refuted it pretty well.

I'm not saying I agree with him, just that he didn't reinforce your point at all.

IMO Melo is not moving from NY. I think even after all that has happened there and the collective failure of the past years, he still likes it there and feels comfortable. Going someplace else is easier said than done and I just don't think Melo is too enthused at the prospect of moving to another city and starting again.

It's not going to take much from Phil and Fisher to convince him to stay because IMO he wants to stay. Now, whether that means they'll win going forward is another story.

Sam Amick of USA Today flogging Melo to the Heat right now.

Let's win this series first, then we can start seriously discussing it.

He literally said that Carmelo couldn't play strong defense at times because he was too focused on carrying the team on the offensive end.

Well, according to Ethan Skolnick on 790 this afternoon, La La and Gabby Union have been hanging out in Miami quite a bit.

    Happy wife, happy life.....

    Lol.

Still, for them sending their squeeze dow to Miami or up to NY for a shopping spree or little get-together is the equivalent of you or me going to the corner store for a 6-pack.

I'm not dismissing the notion altogether, but IMO I think the highest probability is for him to remain in NY.

That Sam Amick guy seems to be spinning more Melo and Lebron to the Lakers than Melo to Miami. Which IMO seems even more far-fetched.

Not focused on playing offense, fatigued from playing offense. There's a huge difference

I think/hope that somehow this ends up being Melo/Love/M Gasol on the NYK frontline. Not this offseason then next when the later two are actually FA. First things first though, gotta retain Carmelo.

Napier seems like a great fit, yea. Quick, relentless on-ball defender, three-point stroke, can make things happen in the lane, and has a great eye and feel in transition, especially off turnovers. I think he'll get knocked for forcing stuff in the half-court sometimes...but realize that he had to force stuff most of this season while the rest of the UConn guys got their acts together.

And man, you saw him in the Final Four shutting people down, including the Kentucky kids. He did all that while playing basically the entire game and while carrying the team on offense. He could be a phenomenal part-time player, with fewer responsibilities like his situation would be in Miami. Probably depends on how they feel about Norris Cole.

Napier would be a great pick. As would Mitch McGary who would've been a lottery pick last year.

You might also have the opportunity to take a chance on raw, but athletic freaks like Zach Lavine or Jerami Grant.

You can get a good developmental prospect at the 26th pick this year (though Napier could probably contribute year 1). We need to start making some of those count.

Mills has never had the reputation as a a good P&R defender. Heat PG's MUST be very good and intelligent in their P&R coverages. As a backup PG, he would obviously be explored. Not as a starter.

BTW..I have it on a VERY good source....

That the Miami Heat WILL explore adding Carmelo Anthony this off-season.

"explore" could mean an appeal for him to take a severe discount to somewhere around 14 mil a year, which would mean leaving somewhere around 40 Million on the table.

Pat Riley is ENAMORED with his game, and has been enamored with his game for a VERY long time.

All I can say is..I like what Pat likes. He has earned that with me.

Melo would be a very interesting addition. The thing I would worry the most about is his ability to adapt the the Heat culture and allowing LeBron to be the guy and Wade to always be the home favorite ahead of him. Can he accept taking less shots, getting the ball less, having to step it up on defense? If he can deal with that, he would be an excellent fit and the Heat would have an offense that is nearly unstoppable. Wade would probably also have to get on board with this. He would almost certainly have to take less and it might serve the heat best to actually have him come off of the bench in a Manu-type role with Melo starting at the 2. I don't see it happening, but I won't put anything past Riley. I'm convinced there's nothing that guy can't do.

It would certainly be pretty insane to look at one of the greatest drafts of all time and think that the 4 best players from that draft are all on the same team.

If nothing else, Riley always aims big.

I do wonder though about the stars taking massive pay cuts, that has to raise the ire of the union no? And LeBron has tried to get more involved with the union so he obviously cares about those issues. I mean, if LBJ/Melo/Wade and Bosh are all willing to take $14 million a year it will be tougher for other guys to get the max.

Will you guys please just focus on the game tonight?? With every post I have to imagine my teams best player in that annoying ugly black and red jersey.

Tony Parker playing very well tonight is the only real chance SA has IMO...thoughts??

Parker has played real well in both games.

The problem for SA is that when it's close in the 4th, Parker can't do squat against LeBron.

That's really when their offense started to stop flowing as Ginobli really can't/shouldn't be trusted that much with the ball in crunch time.

I think the Heat may use LBJ on Parker a bit in the 1st half just to see if they can get a lead stretched out.

You're already a Dolphin fan, jump on the Heat wagon before the third title in a row and I promise we won't call you a bandwagon fan

I don't think Parker can impact the series more than he has already with James on him. They need Manu and DG hitting threes IMO

Parker has been really good. The Spurs got away from moving it inside-out at the end of Game 2, imo. That and missed FTs.

I'll be curious to see if Pop plays Splitter and Duncan together just a little more because they got abused when they went small, and Splitter's usually a very good passer. The two-bigs combo was brutal in Game 1, but it was clicking pretty good in Game 2, at least offensively.

Kawhi is a wreck right now. I guess if Leonard turns it around on either end the Spurs have a shot tonight, and I mean he's a very good player so I won't be surprised if he bounces back. But if he gets worked like he did in Game 2...forget it. Pop will have to adjust.

I imagine that the Heat will take better advantage of the Spurs constant switching on screens. They attacked the switches okay in Game 2, but there are more points to be mined from those clear mismatches.

To me me if Ray Allen keeps giving the Heat such a big lift as a six-man...damn the Spurs are gonna have a tough time. He's countering the lift Ginobli gives SA. Where did the disruption on defense come from? Where did this dribble-drive game come from? Ray was +9 in Game 2! He's been unreal.

I would think that he could adapt to stepping it up on D. I've seen him play really well on D, it just happens so infrequently. IMO the issue is taking a back seat to Lebron. IMO what Wade did was pretty remarkable. I don't have a good enough read on Melo to know if he could do that. But I will never doubt Riley's sales ability and vision.
