I'll gladly sing a different tune if Marino proves me wrong.

Great QB, truly great and ranks IMO as one of the top 5 Phin players of all time. Front office?

The original settlement (which I believe is being thrown out by the judge because it's not enough) made it so that veteran players who were not part of the original lawsuit could file to get in on the settlement at a later date should they begin showing symptoms from concussions. It appears Marino hired the law firm that is handling the concussion suit to make sure he could get in on the settlement should he develop those symptoms. But the law firm just blanket added all of their NFL clients to the plaintiffs list in the lawsuit.

An NFL front office is a big place. There is plenty Marino can bring to the table in a role that doesn't involve drafting players or signing free agents. Hell, if you believe the rumor, he's the only reason the Dolphins even got a meeting with Manning when he hit the market.

I have a really hard time seeing Dawn Aponte getting along with Marino. That could be a problem for Dan if The Big Eared One still sees her as a top advisor.

Keep something in mind here. Steve Ross is in charge. Steve Ross likes being in charge. Steve Ross will probably continue to be in charge until he sells the team. He enjoys being in charge. He enjoys making the big decisions.

Clippers sale notwithstanding, that was the entire reason to be an owner of an NFL team. He sure as hell wasn't getting anything financially out of it. By the Forbes formulas his franchise had stayed at the same value or perhaps even lost value since he bought it.

So any of these imagined scenarios where Dan Marino is the one making the decision about who gets hired and fired...forget about it. That's not happening.

That's why I have been suggesting that instead Marino could be just an advisor to Ross, someone that knows football and has industry contacts but who is not involved in the day-to-day running of the organization and therefore wouldn't be in line to be replaced every 3 years unlike the guys sitting in the Head Coach and General Manager hot seats.

The only problem with that is I think Marino wants to be doing a day-to-day job with the team.

I'd probably stop watching the team until he was fired honestly. Fist pump 2.0 the slightly upgraded Sparano in terms of coaching ingenuity.

I really don't understand this whole I'm gonna quit watching if blank happens.

It's bush league Alex, you don't know Cowher well enough to make a determination that should result in that level of personal consequence.

Maybe Marino should co-own an Arena Football team? I hear that's the way to go these days, lol.
You have to get your feet wet before jumping in and I see this as good move if it ever happens. Just having him here in "any" capacity should be seen as a positive step.
    Who wouldn't think that? :headscratch:

Perhaps you need to check his record as a head coach. There is absolutely nothing in his history as a player, head coach, or TV personality which backs up you assertion that Cowher is, "dumb as a box of rocks".

Sometimes I think you just like to make inane statements in an effort to disagree with others on this forum. It is fine to disagree with someone if you have a logical reason for your disagreement, but stating someone is,"dumb", when he clearly isn't, merely shows your own ignorance.

I still think Marino would best serve the Dolphins in an entertainment capacity. Let him run the Finsiders.

What's that have to do with rooting for your team, if he takes the job it means he wants to commit to our team, he's not stupid, he's demonstrated he knows how to communicate and motivate and hire good people.

Recent experience absolutely has a bearing on how well he could function as a coach at this point. Things are a lot different than when he was a head coach.

Its a great idea. Marino is revered by Dolphin fans. Imagine how many people would tune in to see him almost on a daily basis. Plus he has experience as a TV personality.

funny thing is I remember when this fool criticized some other poster (I think KB21) for threatening to jump ship if Ireland was retained this offseason...abandoning the team because of an inept GM is unacceptable, but it's okay if we hire a super bowl winning coach? lol....

Something was bothering me about the lawsuit story .It seems incongruent to me that Marino would be hired by Ross on the one hand while in effect Marino was bringing a lawsuit on him at the same time.

Well it turns out that Marino is withdrawing his lawsuit.

He could join ESPN or NFL Network if he wanted to do something like that, if he wants to stay in broadcasting why would he want to be involved with a low-rated garbage radio show that no one cares about?

The only point you might have imo is his passion and commitment, if that's not at an all time high I wouldn't go near him, I would never try and lure a coach to come to my team, huge red dumb flag..If he wants to be the coach for the right reasons, then i don't believe the absence would strip him of the qualities. That I feel make a great head coach.

I don't think the issue is his passion or commitment. Its more functional and tactical. Theres a saying that the game turns over every three years. The techniques players and coaches use are different than they used to be. There is a reason why coaches that are gone from the game for extended periods don't experience much success when they return.

Threatening the team with the loss of your prescense because of losing seasons or inadequate hirings..that's got to be the definition of bandwagon.

I know you take a lot of grief, but you know what, I've never heard you threaten like that silliness and your always here..sometimes you piss on folks positivity but I don't mind your style of rooting, it's been a very long hard road of constant disappointments and you simply cannot muster up the positivity at this point, you have to see it happen before you can root in another way, I get that, for me the poor seasons are always chances to find the right people ( front office, players) to change the direction, and for that I always like to stay engaged and think about what could happen if, or lets give this the proper time frame to be fair, and supportive..however, I don't think I'm a homer even though some will tell you I am, when it comes to personnel I'll tell ya whether or not I like or dislike their talent, but once they put on the uni, I simply must give them a clean slate because I believe that variables can change dynamics and I don't have enough inside to villify when they take the job, unless of course I have seen something that I think I'm sure of.

Yeah when it comes to men who have a presence about them, when it comes to men who display a leadership quality that can inspire men, I'm willing to give them a grace period to play catch up.
