I don't think the staff has a "reluctance" to start rookies. I think last year all the rookies were injured or coming off injury and missed lots of time. Also, there was clearly a disconnect between Philbin & Ireland when it came to players as well.
I don't really think he's a MLB period. He'd be on the weak side. Dannell Ellerbe and Koa Misi would probably compete at MLB and Wheeler would probably compete for snaps at SLB with Dion Jordan threatening to come on for some snaps there. Shazier would immediately be designated the guy that stays on the field for all nickel AND dime packages. The second linebacker in nickel could be situational. Could be Dion Jordan or Phil Wheeler if we're looking to blitz. Could be Jelani Jenkins or Dannell Ellerbe if we're looking to cover.
Apropos of nothing, absent the development of new information I believe I am pretty locked in with what I'm doing on Play the Draft. I'm shooting to end up at about $19 million. We'll see if I get there. I finally broke the top 100, lol.
I would not be too surprised if we did draft Shazier that we try him at MLB though. He often lined up inside at Ohio St, and I remember for a few years of Coyle's tenure in Cincy they used Dhani Jones at MLB, and he is/was about the same size.
The plays where he was over the middle were dime packages with one true linebacker on the field and that's not really the same thing IMO. The real question is in this style of defense why would we even WANT him to play middle linebacker? I think that would just be overthinking it. You're buying the dude because he's athletic as hell, a run and hit guy, can blitz, can cover and has great range. That's not middle linebacker in Kevin Coyle's defense.
Now I'm curious. I haven't worked the numbers yet, but how the frick are we gonna make 4+ million on draft day? Well, I might need a hair less since I'm sitting 60th at the moment with 14.8M.
So Chris if I'm reading it right, once the draft starts and our portfolio is frozen, we'll only make money on players drafted within the first 3 rounds, yes? If so, that seems like it would suck b/c there's a bunch of guys currently priced in the 7th round and beyond who will be 4th & 5th rounders.
Since their stock trading system is currently based on rookie first year salaries, that's the unfortunate reality. Overall I think they have a good idea but I question how it's executed. I have NO idea whatsoever what they're tracking to get daily price fluctuations. They should find a way to allow you to "short" a player's draft stock. You could probably accomplish this just by simulating a simple leverage ratio. And as you say, you get virtually no credit for a 7th rounder turning into a 3rd rounder, etc.
yeah that would be cool if we could get paid equal money for calling the guys who tumble. I'd like to know what generates the daily fluctuations as well. Can they input the draft into some sort of randomizer to create small daily fluctuations to mimic the NYSE but simply increase or decrease more heavily the value of the players on the move?
lol they killed us on NFL Network's mock draft http://www.nfl.com/draft/2014/analysts-mock-draft#pick=19 hahaha, that was one of the most hilarious segments on NFL Net I ever heard
Wanted to let you guys know at Draftbreakdown you can now isolate plays and turn them into gifs instead of using the youtube timestamp.
I'd say we're doing OK in this year's MockOne. We picked up OT Jake Matthews, RB Tre Mason, WR Robert Herron, OG Spencer Long and now FS Jonathan Dowling. And we didn't give up any future picks to do it.
Was pretty un-informed and disappointing. Usual jokes about the Cogs/Martin fiasco BS. They had no knowledge or input on the signings of Albert, Smith, and Fox, or getting a healthy Dallas Thomas into the mix at guard. Isen assigned us Koundjio at #19. F that... Mayock then stepped in and said "or trade down" with the 49ers, etc... Wished they had had Billick or Jeremiah picking for us instead of jokester Isen so there might have been some real logic applied instead of a splash page reaction.
Rich Eisen seems like a cocky arrogant little prick to me and doesn't have more than a scintilla of actual knowledge of the players and draft process.
I agree for the most part, but considering they do not properly utilize Jordan so far to maximize his skill set, I'd just not be surprised if the same thing happened with Shazier. Like Ronin has said, if we do draft Shazier, it seems like we also need to get a 2 down Mike for the base defense to shore things up vs the run. I don't want to see Ellerbe flailing away in there again this year and I doubt many others among us do either.
play money unfortunately..... but it's still pretty fun. It's the NFL Draft meets the New York Stock Exchange. playthedraft.com. I started late but I'm up to 57th out of 1434 portfolios.
The other thing that intrigues me is if they do end up moving up for Matthews or Martin to solidify the O-line, is if they went ahead and drafted Preston Brown of Louisville. I could see Ellerbe fitting in better as a WLB in this defense and you can pit Misi and Wheeler against each other at SLB. Worse case, you can plug Misi in the middle until Brown is ready. I personally don't see Wheeler being all that much of an upgrade over Misi at SLB, if he's even an upgrade at all. I'd be content with Ellerbe, Brown, and Misi starting and letting Brown take his lumps. I mean, I don't think he's going to see an overwhelming amount of snaps with the way Miami uses their sub packages anyway, and if he's merely in there to help against the run, well, that's what he's good at.
I think they did what they could all things considered with the shoulder and all. I did see an article a couple of months ago that stated that they did pretty much move him all over trying to maximize his skill set. I believe it was an ESPN blog. Edit..Found it. http://chipwagon.typepad.com/eagles...ns-2013-season-part-2-outside-linebacker.html
If they keep the multi-usage going but just triple his snaps, that would be really cool. I just think he could be a pro bowl OLB, even in a 4-3.
I sold Mack in the PTD and got some nice value there. Cracked top ten on the Draftcountdown standings. Still some other guys I'd love to get but I'd have to sell someone like Aaron Donald or OBJ.
Nice job putz. I just hit 50th in the Kiper Challenge with 15.289M (2.95M the past month). Gotta get set up for the 9th inning.
He isn't very knowledgeable from a football standpoint but I think he is good at his job as an ancher. He doesn't claim to be an analyst or anthing.
Completely agree. Would never think of him in the middle. If we went with someone in the middle it would be Misi or competition among last year's two signings. I think you have to get him on the edge on 1-2 down and then in middle of dime packages.
I see him a lot on Dan Patrick. I don't think he's arrogant. Actually like him. But, he certainly is not knowledgable about players - I think you're spot on about that. He should not have been in that room drafting. But, at the same time, I can't abide Jeremiah. If there is anyone at NFLN who is arrogant it's Jeremiah. He does more work than many but at the same time he thinks too highly of himself. He's not much better than Todd McShay, imo. Of course, none of these guys are that great. To be honest - not just blowing smoke - but CK and Todd are significantly better than all those guys (several on here are). The one I really do like (though even he has his shallow analysis moments I suspect) is Mayock. I don't think there is anyone at ESPN who is very good at scouting.
http://deadspin.com/the-browns-spent-over-100-000-on-a-study-to-find-the-b-1573536826 They might as well had paid Nu_Gap and saved a **** load of money. He posted numbers here like a year ago back when an 'objective' Clemson fan was claiming that Boyd was the better quarterback that showed as much. It was a comparison with the 2012 group and it showed that Russell Wilson was always a monster and that Bridgwater was pretty much the next man up. Sent from my GT-P3110 using Tapatalk
