Only major issue with Pietrus is that he's got the BBall IQ of a rock.

GS board on RealGM is actually celebrating his departure.

I don't think its that bad. He knows how to play the game well. If the NBA was anything like the NFL, he would be a scrub.

What do GS fans know? Lol.

He's pretty dumb out there at least half the time, but he's still an extremely talented player. I'm not sure he's going to live up to that full mid-level contract, but he'll give you solid minutes on defense and popping the corner triple. He can penetrate and make some plays with the ball in his hands, too. But the guy makes so many pointless mistakes it's not even funny.

Nice job altering the article about 5-6 hours after posting it, Ira.

The original article said that he "agreed" to the contract.

That's not a good thing. That means he hasn't officially been inked. He'll still be a Heat though.

He's usually as reliable as they come, but his sources have been shaky this summer.

Everyone remembers the article about "Beasley being a lock #1, Rose a lock #2"

I think Mike Miller will get one last look to complete the 2-3 rotation.

The evidence has been clear, that Riley is semi-obsessed with him since he has explored by my count 3 deals including Miller.

Maybe the James Jones signing will end the courtship. But you know what they say about "smoke".

I think Andris Biedrins will get a look.

    Kwame brown will be explored.

All we need really is to find a Theo Ratliff type.

LOL I was half joking. Trying to anticipate what the local talk shows are going to be saying about him. The day after the Chicago game Sedano and Co. were bowing to his greatness, Im interested to see what their reaction will be today.

Gotta love South Florida sports radio

I wonder if he can be another Bruce Bowen? Like I said yesterday if you can play D you've got a spot somewhere.

Im actually hoping he can get at least 15-20 mins a game in his first season. Bring him with the 2nd team and defensive situations late in games.

So what about Hinrich? I say we make a push to get him. His days in Chi-town as a starter are numbered. He's still a good PG IMO. Him and Wade would be a good back court combo.

    that contract.....jeeez.

why mess with a sure thing?

Marion expires..and we can go nuts in 09'. Hinrich's contract would cut into our 'going nuts" ability.

Who are we going to go nuts for?

There is only going to be one person worth it... Boozer... and there isnt a guarentee that he even leaves Utah.

He rents a house in utah.

We pony up..why wouldn't he want to come here?

And because of that, you consider it a lock?

I'm sorry, but I dont. If the Jazz are successful this year, and go to the WCF... there is a great chance that he may not want to leave a good thing.

Whats to say Utah doesnt pony up as well?

I'm not saying that he wouldnt have interest in Miami... but it is far from a "lock"...

And then Boozer is at the 4 with Beasley at the 3? (Assuming Marion and Haslem are both gone by then which Im sure they will)

Anyway, lets try that post again...

So b/c he has a house down here, you consider it a "lock"?

I dont. I dont see how you could. Would it mean he might have some interest? Sure. But what is stopping the Jazz from "ponying" up as well? He has a good thing going in Utah... and if they are successful this season... he may not want to leave that.

He may have interest... but it is FAR from a "lock". And to not make a move that would significantly improve our team in the hope of landing Boozer would be putting too many chips in one basket IMO.

Now, if next year was going to be a year like 2010... I might think differently. But w/ Boozer being the only real target of ours... I dont know how comfortable I am just waiting in hopes that it might come to true...

I didn't say Boozer was a "lock" where did you get that from?

I just said it makes perfect sense.

and "the good thing in utah" argument doesn't fly either. he would have a "better thing" here. as in ...a real championship chance. By 2009 the Celtics will be dismantling and the Sixers won't matchup with us.

I didnt mean to say you said it was a lock. My point is that I wouldnt feel comfortable just sitting around waiting for him unless it was a lock.

And there is no telling that he would have a "better thing" here than in Utah...

I'm not sure if he's that good of a defender but he could be. He has more offense than Bowen. Bowen has the corner triple and that's it.

That happened to me when I was trying to post. :dunno:

Utah minus Boozer vs. Miami w/ Boozer.

I would say THAT IS A LOCK that Miami would be a better "thing".

In fact..if they cloned Boozer. and gave one to Utah and one to Miami, Miami would be better as well.

The Heat are patiently searching for a Point Guard in the market. They have told Jason Williams that its going in a different direction but wouldn't completely rule out his return. The same has been told to Earl Barron.

Obviously Utah minus Boozer is worse than Miami w/ Boozer... lol

I'm saying that I dont think it could be determined right now that Miami w/ Boozer would be a better thing than Utah w/ Boozer.

And that mainly is b/c of the health of Wade. I am PRAYING he returns to form and is fully healthy. I was having wet dreams about the guy when he was on top of his game. But we dont know if Wade will be the Wade we grew to love in this coming year... or if Wade gets hurt again with something else.

Its just too early to say one way or the other. Utah is a great team... and we are coming off the worst record in the league. Will we be better than last year? Without question! (or atleast we BETTER be! lol)

But will we be a better situation for him than Utah a year from now? Its impossible to say right now. WAY too many variables. Ya know?

Plus, my motivation to bring in Kirk has a lot to do with Wade. IMO, we NEED to get a good PG to pair with him... b/c Wade does not want to have to play the point on this team(except in crunch time). Kirk would be the perfect compliment to Wade... and his addition would certainly keep him happy... which unfortunatly is something we cant just brush off with his contract expiring soon.

790: James Jones turned down the full mid-level from Detroit to come home for $4 million per

It's always nice to hear that a guy REALLY wanted to play for your team, rather than it being a financial-only thing. He says he's been a Heat fan all his life, and dreamed of playing here. And, his "mama is happy"

Back to the discussion: I don't like Carlos Boozer as a Miami Heat that much. On first hand, it looks beautiful on paper. However, Carlos Boozer is an awful defender and so far in his career he has absolutely folded in the playoffs. He's going to be looking for an Elton Brand type of contract, probably a bit more. We'll have the money to spend next summer, provided Marion is kept and expires. Is he worth it? Maybe if you pair him with a center like Okafor, Ben Wallace, or even a Jeff Foster. Problem is, we won't have that opportunity. If Boozer/Beasley is your front court and you're going up against a team like Boston in the playoffs, then KG drops 30+ every night.

It's not always about bringing in the absolute most talented guys; I mean, sure. Some guys are good enough where the talent outweighs whether or not he fits. But with Boozer, I think he's a poor fit, whereas a guy like Emeka Okafor would be the perfect fit for this basketball team, and he'd probably enable us to sign another guy. I don't think Okafor gets more than $10-12 million per.

Heavily disagreed. Utah doesn't make it to the WCF last year and doesn't make it as far as they did this year without Boozer stepping up.

I have to agree with you there. Not a Boozer fan myself but Boozer always ends up defending Yao, Duncan, all the guys that have 4+ inches on him and fairs pretty nicely.

to be honest, i'd rather have marion than boozer myself. probably in the minority, but marion is a better and more verstile defender than boozer and would come cheaper.
