First sentence in the "How well did they rush the passer?" section you call them defensive tackles. Might want to fix that. Otherwise, great article!

Big Spencer Long fan. Might go under the radar due to injuring his knee. Probably his best quality is his leadership. He would be a leader on the line and in the locker room. Something this team lacked.
Nice find. Looks an impressive player/athlete, and especially what we should be looking for if they truly want to move away from the John Jerry, Richie Incognito type. I believe them, just remains to be seen if they can identify and acquire the right type of player...like Long appears to be.
What does everyone think of the versatile players that can play multiple positions? Guys like Dakota Dozier, Brandon Linder, Andrew Norwell, Ego Ferguson, Kelcy Quarles, George Uko, Bruce Gaston, Christian Jones, Adrian Hubbard, ETC.
WalterFootball has a handy running list of which prospects we've met with and under which condition. http://walterfootball.com/draft2014meetingsteams.php
With how football has become so situational and with how varied offenses have become, maximizing sub package capability and scheme flexibility is huge IMO, so I love versatile players. For example, if you were to offer me the choice between: a minimally versatile D-line unit that boasts a dominant front in Base D... and a slightly less talented one that features gobs of versatility and sub package capability, I'd take the versatile one.
I can't get a bead on this guy. He runs great routes but he's 5'9". We had him in for a private workout.
Mike Thomas seems more stocky. I cannot see the resemblance between he and Herron. Not physically anyway. If we wanna compare him to a 5'9 WR how about Mark Clayton?
Herron is fairly stocky too IMO. 5'9, 193. Was a RB as a freshman. 4.29 pro day, 6.84 3-cone, 4.27 shuttle, 35.5 vertical, 10.5 broad. Mike Thomas: 5'8, 195.... 4.30 forty pro day, 6.65 3-cone, 4.28 shuttle, 40.5 vert, 10.5 broad. Thomas might be a nut hair stalkier but the overall size, ability, and play style are comparable IMO.
The same range that Jelani Jenkins was projected to be. We had him in for a private workout if I'm remembering correctly, and then ended up picking him in the 4th. I'm interested to see if there is any correlation between players we've examined closer that are projected to be available on day 3, and whether or not we pick them.
NFL Draft Scout has him 110th overall, 3rd-4th round bubble. nfl.com has him 5th-6th. The Sideline View has him 172nd overall.
Interesting that they met with only two LBs - both are intriguing. Both played OLB but I suspect both would be switched by the Dolphins. Marquis Flowers ran a 4.51 (But unofficially was clocked in the 4.4s) at his Pro Day - and he's 6'3, 231. One article suggested him as a Kam Chancellor type safety prospect. The other was Carl Bradford, another good athlete who played OLB at AZ but his size looks more suited for ILB (6'1, 250). He was compared to Brandon Spikes at NFL Draft Scout in terms of style of play/potential. I suspect we'd be looking at him more on the inside. No other LB meetings. Seems they have avoided most of the top 2-3 round players that we might be interested in at need positions.
I love the fact that he plays RG. Get him and a JaWuan James or Morgan Moses who played most of their time at RT. I would rather have that then forcing LT to play RT and LG to play RG
We are looking at serious do-overs at the WR and LB positions these next two years it seems. Any idea on how the 2015 FA WR class looks like?
My first 5 1. Beckham 2. JaWuan James 3. Dakota Dozier 4. Lache Seastrunk 5. Ben Gardner, DE/nickel DT rush specialist
Random thoughts and Questions 1.) Do you all think one of the following OT/OG will be available at #19: Greg Robinson, Jake Matthews, Taylor Lewan, Morgan Moses, or Zack Martin? -----Obviously the first 3 most likely won't be there, but now I am starting to get worried that we wont even have Morgan Moses or Zack Martin to choose from. Also I seriously doubt the reports that we would take Cyrus Kouandjio in the first after his poor workout and knee issues. 2.) Also if all of those guys are gone who do you think we look at next? ----- Do you think we would consider a Xavier Su'a-Filo, Eric Ebron, Jace Amaro, Calvin Pryor? 3.) Is anyone else surprised by our seemingly lack of interest in WRs? -----Kind of scary when you consider both Hartline and Gibson are going to be coming off injuries. I would like if we looked at more prospects that should go in the 1st to 2nd range. I know we worked out Martavis Bryant, but I thought you would see us work out a lot more guys in that range. 4.) Jared Abbrederis could be a great fit for us in the 4th or 5th -----Reminds me a bit of Hartline with his ability to beat defenses with his route running skills. Tannehill seemed to love throwing the ball to Hartline so maybe adding someone of similar mold would also help Tannehill out.
1. IMO, JaWuan James makes more sense at 2 than Moses at 1. He could step in from day 1 since all the muscle memory stuff and fundamentals are still fresh. 2. A Philly/GB hybrid utterly screams Odell Beckham, probably more so than anyone else in this draft. I said from day 1 he's a faster Victor Cruz and I still feel that way. His versatility - ability to play inside & outside, motion, take screens and reverses, blow the top off defenses - is exactly what this offense is missing and is exactly what Lazor needs at his disposal, as does Tannehill so he doesn't have to work so hard for his yards. 3. Seems to be plenty of interest in WR. Beckham, Martavis Bryant, Moncrief, Marquis Lee. 4. Pass on Abbrederis. I understand your thought process here, but Abbrederis reminding me like another Hartline is exactly why we DONT need him. We need playmakers, not another possession WR.... and Tannehill doesn't need another possession receiver that makes him work for every yard. He needs a guy who can pick up yards after the catch, bring down contested balls, help him out beyond 15 yards where he's heavily underperforming, contribute in redzone, and provide him with improved matchup advantage capabilities.
Good point about James. Not a huge fan of his, but definitely see your reasoning. Makes sense although I think Moses in the 1st would be better for our team long term. That being said, I think Hickey is in win now mode to save himself and his 2 year contract so you could be right. I don't believe Beckham will be available when we pick. There are rumors floating out there that he will be a top 10 pick come draft day. I could see it with his insanely low drop rate and the numbers he put up at the combine. Dude is a stud. Guess I just wanted to see us look at more guys including Cooks, Allen Robinson, Jordan Matthews. I mentioned Abbrederis because he could be a cheaper option to replace Hartline in a few years, while still giving Tannehill that safety net. Could be a decent 4 guy for now though. Totally agree that we don't want/need a bunch of Hartlines on the field, but I could see Tannehill really appreciating a WR like Abbrederis.
See I think Moses is a short-term pick. A RT at 19 in this draft just isn't a great value move because it's not a marquee position in the NFL. Add to this the fact that there are probably going to be better prospects available there (Fuller, Verrett, Donald, Nix, Hageman, Shazier, Cooks, Beckham, Robinson). I just don't see Moses as a top 20 talent in this draft. Drafting him would be a reach for a need position, imo, and a position that while important isn't a high impact spot and can be filled by guys in later rounds. Last year's weak 1st round led to Fluker at 11 and Pugh at 19...but this draft just has a lot more game-changers at marquee positions, imo. The long-term pick is bpa.
You can project Moses to LT though. So you take him this year have him play RT until Albert retires, gets hurt, etc and then you slide him over to LT. I don't think Moses would be a reach at 19 personally. The fact that this year is a strong draft class is one of the few reasons you could get a future LT like Moses at 19. If Moses was in last years draft he likely would have been picked before Fluker at 11.
I don't see the Abbrederis-Hartline comparison other than being skinny white Big Ten receivers. He reminds me more of Brandon Stokley, by the way he runs after the catch. Abbrederis isn't great about it, but better than Hartline in that regard IMO.
Dolphins have shown interest in the Doctor : http://www.calgarysun.com/2014/04/1...tor-cassama-impresses-nfl-scouts-with-workout Who knows , maybe Miami is what the doctor ordered.
I want the kid from Nebraska to be the plug and play RG. I would take Bitonio at pick 50 if he is there too, but no problem with James otherwise. I'd prefer Cooks for a 1st Round WR, but would be fine with Beckham too. I like Gardner, but am a little concerned with his 30 3/4 inch arms playing on the edge on the DL. There is an old rule of thumb that the shorter a player's arms, the closer he needs to be lining up to the ball. Gardner therefore has the arm length more suited for NT than anywhere else.
I like Cooks a lot and would be fine with him if Beckham is gone. Gardner I want solely for his interior nickel pass rush potential, which is immense.
I look at that as more of a semantics argument, respectfully. He's still a slighter built, 4.5 forty, possession receiver with uninspiring RAC ability, and that unexciting possession receiver part is what I was alluding to. We have enough of those as it is. We need playmakers without compromise. Personally, I think Abbrederis is average-at-best after the catch at the college level, which would probably put him at poor in the NFL just like Hartline is, whom I think was as good or better after the catch in college than Abbrederis.
From a numbers perspective he's far below average. I had him at 2.5 yards after the catch. Average would be 4.5-5.5 yards. He and Mike Davis from Texas were both particularly low.
Spencer Long can play, but he blew his knee out in October so I don't know if he'll be the plug and play RG. He's definitely worth a look though.
Because I think lewan will be gone and the value isn't quite there for that position if he isn't, just doin a mock where some sites have these prospects rated. 1) Cooks/Beckham 2) Moses/Cyrus K 3) Borland/Skov 4) Dozier/Turner/Long 5) D'anthony Thomas/Phillip Gaines 6) Mike Sam
I could easily be happy w/ those first three rounds. I think I would go Cooks, Moses, Borland but could be happy w/ the others. Cooks so fast I'd be giddy to get him. Just saw this about Skov too; "has already had multiple knee surgeries." http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/shayne-skov?id=2543753
