Mookie Betts & Henry Owens were named the Double A Eastern League Player & Pitcher of the Week. Both have started off the season very strong.
Interesting article about injuries: http://grantland.com/the-triangle/matt-moore-baseball-tommy-john-surgery-historic-rate/
McCann - X-rays were negative Cervelli - 2nd degree hamstring strain - i expect this will take 6 - 8 weeks for him to come back - Shawn green was optioned - I expect JR murphy or Romine to be called up today or tomorrow - plus maybe sizemore, but they'll probably need to 60 day DL someone - maybe brendan ryan - or Turley. Oh and Beltran named A.L. player of the week - Fink - any info on Pede's wrist?
It's official Moore will have TJ surgery. This is what happens when FinYank reallllllly likes a player.
Yankees put Cervelli on the 60 day DL so he'll miss at least 2 months. Also thinking out loud but with the Yankees calling up Murphy over Romine, I wonder if that means Romine is no longer looked at as highly as he was once regarded in the organization.
As I remember correctly Romine did ok after he got comfortable....his bat loosened up a little bit...maybe they are trying to showcase him...who knows with Cashman...
http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/sto...-need-sign-stephen-drew-hal-steinbrenner-says He is saying "right now"..... Notice how he keeps the door open for later though....
Murphy can play 3rd and 1st if needed - Romine needs the reps at catcher - He is still highly regarded.
Usually when teams showcase players they bring them up to the majors and let them play. Murphy has played 19 pro games at 3B in the minors and none at 1B. I know Murphy is the better defensive catcher so maybe that's what they are looking for. It seems like Murphy has at least overlapped Romaine at this time.
you can look at stats all you want - do you know how many times cervelli played first before this year? Never! he has played like 4 games in his career at 3rd and 2 games at 2nd. JR is the number one guy at AAA, but he does have way more versatility than romine - At this time, i thnk romine needs a fire lit under his *** or he's going to end up just an organizational player.
Sorry Fink I meant showcase Murphy, was unclear there.....maybe Romine is the guy they wanna keep...again who knows what Cashman is thinking honestly.... I think he is up this year contract wise...
Go look at Romine's post All-Star split from last year, I will take that from a catching backup all day if he could replicate those numbers....
Saw the play, it looked gross. Shocked that he's day to day, thought for sure with the way this season has been going he'd be out weeks. Oh and the Sox pretty much suck this year. The offense has completely disappeared, at least they have been getting mostly good starting pitching, just stinks they waste those efforts.
At this point if I were Fiedman I would be veryyyyyyyy careful with a possible trade with him/Price....
George Springer is being called up today. Curious what you all think about him. I'm in a fantasy league were we bid on waiver wires and any NA that gets called up has to be bid on. Have a $100 limit per year i was going to save it all for when Baez is called up or should i put in a good bid on Springer and hope to get him and say a Polanco or similar bid instead of going for just Baez...
I don't think Friedman and the Rays were ever really close to making that deal with Seattle in the offseason and they're sure as hell not touching Walker now.
I'd go for Springer, he could be a legit 30/30 guy and with the Astros being bad they're going to play him everyday. There's no guarantee either Baez (who's hurt now with an ankle injury) or Polanco will even get called up this year. Only knock on Springer is he Ks a lot so he could hurt you in BA.
Right but if the deal was good enough and involved a pre-injured Walker they would have....but now yeah like you said no way..... It is going to be interesting with this whole scenario because Tampa Bay, regardless of this year or next year, they are going to be contending for sure barring some meltdown before the deadline. How with baseball the way it is, and how really any contending time could win the WS, are they just going to trade away the best asset in the middle of a playoff run? I get the money issue and maximizing on value I get it, but what message does that send to the fanbase?? Could you guys see a scenario where they dont trade Price away and go for it?
Yes, I don't think they end up trading Price ever and simply let him walk as a FA. I think they wanted to get another monster package for him, ala like the James Shields deal, but were surprised at maybe the lack of interest and/or lack of players they were getting offered so they decided instead of trading Price for 75 cents, or less, on the dollar to keep him and go for it. I have a hard time believing that if TB couldn't get a good enough package for Price with 2 years of team control they will be able to with less than that. And I can't see with the two wild card spots that they would be out of contention at any point in the season to trade him mid-season.
It could be the CC Theory of ALOT of innings on that arm by the time he is a FA at 30....God I hope the Yanks dont give him mega cash... Consider the innings since he has been up in MLB....186.2, 211, 224.0, 208.2, 128.1.....
I don't think it's that. Price is a great pitcher and is probably a top 5 SP in all of baseball. I just think its a mix of teams continue to be very picky about trading top prospects for fear they will turn out great and that TB wanted the moon for Price and no team was willing to give it to them. Once Price is a FA he's going to get a huge contract, probably more than what CC first got with the Yankees but obviously less than Kershaw.
usually finger dislocations without any ligament damage or fractures are day to day. Only thing that might bother him is the swelling and gripping a bat. That should be under control in a day or two. Did you see the umpire's face when he saw the finger? that was priceless
I actually didn't see the ump's face, I think it was Jim Joyce although. Thankfully the injury just looked bad. Again I still don't understand why guys continue to slide head first into bases.
it was joyce - he was waving frantically for the trainer - looked like he saw a ghost....incidentally, Napoli is a friend of my sister's. They went to Flanagan together. I actually have some prom pictures of him some where - he and his date went with my sister and her date in the same limo. They've remained friends for a long time. He's a pretty nice guy....
So far he looks like the real deal! What i really like is he's really excelling the 2nd and 3rd time through the order.
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...aka-is-sending-strikeout-rate-sky-high-in-mlb tanaka joins stephen strausberg as the only two pitchers in over 100 yrs to have 8+ k's in their 3 games...
I think it had a lot more to do with TB wanting the moon. If Tampa called Seattle and said I want your top prospect for Price. He would be pitching for Seattle tonight.
Will be interesting to see how he does against teams seeing him for a second or third time. I think he has very good control and obviously has good secondary pitches, especially the splitter, but I think he has a hittable fastball especially if he gets it up in the zone.
