Clippers are going to have to renounce their rights to a few others players so they can increase their offer some.
yep this Brand thing should be interesting. I believe he will be the final piece that the sixers have been missing (assuming Igudala works on his shot this off season). Im sure that what the sixers have been thinking as well.
Kevin Durant will be playing in today's summer league game... Let me repeate that... Kevin Durant will be playing in a summer league game...
Yay so we trade Chalmers to Miami for 2 2nd rounders and cash. Now we trade the cash for 2 garbage players and a future number 1. Remind me why we traded Chalmers?
Chalmers is 1st round talent and fills a big need for the Wolves. Someone that can run point, shoot the 3 ball, Clutch, and plays great defense. God makes me want to bash my head into the wall.
He used to be my fav player when my dad had season tickets for psu games back in the day. Booth sux now
Philly sending Carney & a 1st round pick to Minnesota for cash is a bigger move than advertised. It's going to give Philly a few more millions to toss at Elton Brand or Josh Smith. EDIT: Looks like Calvin Booth was also added, and Philly received merely a 2nd rounder in return.
minny might steal that carney has potential to be good. i thought he was doing better than he was...that was a wasted lottery pick for philly
I read somewhere that Philly can make a max offer of 5-years/$67 million to Josh Smith. I guess they can go over $70 million now. I still expect Brand to re-sign with the Clippers, but wouldn't be surprised if he lands in Philly. It wouldn't be a bad move at all. IMO, LAC is highly unlikely to come out of the West even with Davis/Brand, Golden State wouldn't even stand a chance to make it out with Brand, and Philly would automatically be a top-4 seed in the East, maybe as high as #2. Yeah. I'd sign with Philly.
bucher said he hand shook baron davis hand that he would resign....buuuuuuut then again its rich bucher and his credibility when down the drain fast this past draft
Philly worries me more than GS. As amazing as it is to say so he has a better chance of winning w/ the Clippers than w/ GS, but that isnt the case with Philly who could be a really good team with him; and they're in the East which makes things easier.
Mickael Pietrus is an excellent pick up for Orlando. Miami wanted him last summer when he was a restricted free agent, but hasn't shown as much interest now that he's unrestricted (go figure). Athletic, solid defender, has a signature corner triple (i.e. Bruce Bowen), and he can put the ball on the floor. His bball IQ isn't too bright from what I've seen, though. He's going to shock a ton of people with his play.
I like Pietrus, never really understood why GS didnt play him more. Guess Orlando opts out of the Maggette sweepstakes with this move.
I agree about Pietrus. As for ORL, I don't think they were ever really after Maggette. LOL, that comment and D-How's face in the avatar is creepy. Yeah, they're first target is Brand I believe. One big factor that is being overlooked in this whole situation is that the NBA will be adjusting the cap tonight. If the cap goes in the Sixers favor, they will have $12.6 million in cap room. If not, they could have at or under $11 million which they started off with. If they get it in their favor, they can offer about $75 million I believe. If it doesn't go in their favor, they will be able to offer up to $67 million. I agree that Carney was a waste of a pick. I loved him in college. Hopefully Minnesota gets more production out of him. Yeah, that was the max offer that they were able to give to Smith. I think Brand will still re-sign with Clippers but it will be more difficult and a longer decision process. Philly I believe will be able to offer $75 million without going over the luxury tax. The Clippers are willing to go over the luxury tax to offer him $80-85 million and a no-trade clause in the contract. One key note is that Brand loves the East coast and would love to play there. However, I still think he goes back to LA to team up with Davis. EDIT: One other thing key about Brand is that he does NOT want the sixth year in the contract. He wants no more than five years.
Wait we gave away money and second rounder for 2 garbage players and a future first? Jesus, someone needs to help Minnesota from making such dumb trades.
They need to get rid of the Celtic great. He basically handed Boston their championship instead of building his own team.
i disagree. i think minnesota did pretty good in that trade....al jeff is franchise player and people say he wont ever be a winner...well maybe if he had some teammates around him it would help...gomes is a nice starter and very nice player off the bench...telfair was decent, green flopped hard and ratliff gave cap space.....they weren't going anywhere with kg and they got the best they could out of it
Crap, I believe they got first rounders out of that too didn't they? You are correct. I just thought of Gomes and Jefferson. They got four players and two first rounders out of it I think.
UH OH! Has this been posted already? http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3479059 And right after Philly basically GAVE AWAY two players to clear cap space?
Baron Davis is going to be pissed. I don't want Elton Brand in the East as a Heat fan, but I am a fan of competition as an NBA fan.
Philly used to be my favorite team when AI was there lol. I stopped liking them as soon as he got traded.
I think DonShula84 is pissed. I sent him the link and the quote that you gave us KiNG and he logged off.
i feel bad for don but this makes portland better than the clippers and golden state......coooooome on playoffs
Poor Don. I hope hes ok. THAT close to finally having a 50-win capable team. Davis-Gordon-Thorton-Brand-Kaman but instead they have a giant hole where brand would be.
Clippers fan should have expected this. Brand is a douche, guy wants that nice guy persona, but that's gone now. Clips renounce his rights to sign the guy Brand told them to get and he thanks them by leaving lol. Hopefully they go after Josh Smith, or do a sign and trade with Maggette to try and bring in a PF.
Wow Minnesota got a nice deal out of the trade with Philly (first rounder, save those 2 contracts). They are gonna have a ton of picks in the coming years. Nice job by Philly freeing up cap space... gonna be an exciting year in the East I hope. Also I expect huge things from Orlando with the addition of Pietrus. Maybe he can help Magic fans forget about Reddick.
wow, after giving his word to the Clippers, and getting them to pony up for his friend Davis he leaves for basically nothing. Cant wait for his press conference to hear his explanation of this. http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-clippers9-2008jul09,0,7626268.story
If it's any consolation at all, I'm pretty sure Baron Davis is, like, twice as pissed as you are right now.
Perfect addition for Orlando. After the Detroit-Orlando series, I was saying that the Magic's number one need was a defensive stopper who could shut down high scoring 2s or 3s. That's exactly what they're getting in Pietrus. Great, great pickup for the Magic.
