I know they want more explosive plays on Offense..if our favs are gone trade back and Draft Brandin Cooks 4.3 Slot Wr we havent had a fast Slot man in a while....Bess ran a 4.7 and Gibson a 4.6 and see what Tavon Austin did...He replaced Gibson

They can roll a certain amount over; but there is also a "floor" as well as a "ceiling" on the cap so that teams will spend competitively. It's a 4 year grouping (So, they have to reach 90%, really, 89%, of the total four year cap #) so if they don't actually meet 90% this year they have to next. The rollover helps in future years with some escalating contracts but by 2016 they have to reach that 90% threshold over the whole four year period (2013-2016). I suspect they will want to make sure they don't get in a bind and will spend just enough. But, they may foresee a better free agent group at need spots next year.

IDK, What we have to keep in mind here is that Gibson is the proven vet. Williams is probably more of a CYA in case the injury takes longer to heal for him. Gibson CAN and HAS done the job. Williams is a prospect that MAY develop... Besides, Philbin likes to have WRs that are conversant in all the positions on the field. He likes changing things out, moving guys inside or outside as a change of pace....Gibson can do that job....can Williams ? We don't really know. Besides we could be in good shape, imho, if Binns returns to form and is able to show some of the things he's shown in the past. Another big body that Philbin can use inside or outside??

I see this signing as more of simply stacking the deck with depth...

Agreed. There's no way to know whether Gibson will be ready in time. And lost in the OL issues of last year are the WR issues. Binns was never replaced after the ACL so we were running a base offense with 3 WRs and only one backup. Gibson went down and Moore became the 4th guy. Hartline went down and there was no 4th guy. Add in Keller, and we finished the year with our 1st, 5th and 7th WRs in the starting lineup. No bueno.

Lastly, both Gibson and Hartline tore there knees up on non contact plays, which suggests wear and year was an issue. If Philbin wants to run 3 wides and throw 60-65 % of the time like he did last year then then it'll be a good idea to have 5 if not 6 capable receivers on the team.

In 2012, Gibson had 794 snaps. He led Rams WRs in snaps. In 2013, Bailey had 194. So, no.

If they draft both Donte Moncrief and Bruce Ellington(which they should do), then, maybe I could see trading one of our veterans; otherwise, no, keep them.
