Dani Thomas was our most reliable back last season.

Like the signing. At the very least, he provides stability as a pass blocker. He can catch the ball and move the pile.

I think we're doing alright this FA.

I'm giving Hickey an A+ this offseason just for ending the DT experience.

Knowshon will be protecting Ryan's privates?

    I'll show myself out.

That's like saying Marv Thornberry was the most effective hitter for the 1962 Mets.

Great signing with enormous trickle down effects.

Miller and Thomas are now battling for the backup spot, both of then are solid #2s. The loser battles Gilly for the #3 spot so RB depth is now a strength.

Plus us it erases the need to draft a RB, adding more flexibility to Hickeys draft strategy. What's not to like?

62? Ill have to take your word for it lol.

I thought DT was solid last year, especially before the injury. Now he will be fighting for a back up role. It's a win win IMO.

I don't think Moreno is going to be the starter. I could be wrong, but my guess is that he's the third down back.

Youve been fooling around on PFF again haven't you? It sucks bc I'm willing to bet you have a sharper eye than whoever they have "grading" the Miami games.

Really good in college...Thought they ruined him almost at the beggining of his Bronco tenure. Solid signing

Marv Throneberry, and he wasn't their best hitter, neither for power or average.

If he's healthy he's the starter. I don't think there's even a debate on that. Not unless Miller suddenly loses his aversion to contact. Why would Moreno sign a 1 yr deal to be a backup, so he can make even less next year? Doesn't make an ounce of sense for him to do that.

If I said Frank Thomas you think anyone would have known who he was and I wasn't trying to compare them but drive home the point it ain't saying much that DT was our most effective back.

Youre right, it's not saying much. I just don't get all of the venom that comes his way. Great kid, diligent worker, plays hard, plays hurt, but you'd think he was Bill Buckner the way people talk about him around here. That's about the earliest baseball reference I can come up with ;)

I like Moreno. He's a solid all-around back. I'm happy with the signing, assuming the numbers are where I expect them to be (less than $3.5 million). But the combination of lauding Moreno's pass blocking, criticizing Miller's pass blocking and mocking PFF on such a widespread basis around here is pretty hilarious to me. Let's face it, nobody here has graded Moreno's or Miller's pass blocking on every play last year (or any other year). By the numbers, Miller was in pass protection more than 50% more than Moreno last year but Moreno gave up the same number of pressures. That's not PFF's grading, those are the stats. And PFF's grading also graded Miller as the more effective blocker last year. Since nobody here graded them on every play, it's kinda silly to state with such certainty that they are wrong or to assume that the people doing the grading are not qualified to determine if they did an effective job of blocking. But whatever . . .

This I agree with, except that Buckner was a very good player for most of his career and is vilified for that one play.

I think it was two things that soured Phin fans on DT and it was his ineffectiveness on short yard plays and his inconsistency, and while the OL might to be blamed too running backs will always catch the most heat.

well done! I really like this kid & he's an all-round RB that can get the job done... this will help open the draft for Miami. excellent character & work ethic.
unless we draft another RB, wouldn't surprise me to see them keep Thomas in the stable another year.

He ran hard here last year. Also very good in blitz pickup. I think he works well in a tandem with Miller. Not a big fan of the waterworks though.

Dont get me wrong, DT is not a good football player. I just hate to see any Phin get dumped on. I know I'm in the minority but here we are praising Moreno who was a 12th overall pick while dumping on DT because he was a 2nd rounder.

Because Ireland moved up in the draft to get him and he's not worth a 2nd. Not sure if he was worth a 3rd either...

Everyone seems to be enjoying Taylor Swift's music as well. The running backs we had last year were blown up, no doubt, but compare their statistics with the league average amassed by PFF or any stat collecting group and you'll see it isn't egregious as everyone makes it out to be. The pass protection has always begun and ended with the incapability and disconnect in communication among the offensive line, the fact that the pass protection from our backs is above average is quite frankly, a miracle. Moreno was more likely signed because our ability to not convert, on the ground, in small yardage situations and to also add a veteran to a group of younger tailbacks (assuming Daniel Thomas is cut).

I give DT a ton of credit for coming in off an injury when there was a lot of speculation his season was done and playing a huge role in that game. Aside from that effort, his tenure as a Miami Dolphin has been pretty awful.

Ireland used a 3 and a 5 to move up and get him. Not exactly breaking the bank. Do you think DT should have refused to allow himself to be drafted "too early" what are the rules on that?

They are top 10 in % of snaps spent blocking. That has nothing to do with the quality of job they did

Lamar Miller had the 7th best pass blocking rating. Daniel Thomas was more towards the middle.
