Not too many of the proposals went through, but a trial of longer PAT's from the 20 yard line in 2 preseason games was passed, as was the Pats proposed one of extending the goal posts. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap20...e-proposals-roundup-goal-posts-to-be-extended And the No Fun League also banned the dunking of footballs over the crossbar. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000336754/article/crossbar-dunking-celebration-banned-by-nfl

As much as I hate Darth Hoodie, I was in favor of much of what he proposed. Sad that almost nothing went through, but at least the play that screwed us at the end of the Steelers game a few years ago can now be fixed. I really want total replay - let the coach challenge absolutely anything, and have it all reviewed by the central office. I want things right and fair, as close to 100% of the time. Human error sucks, and I hate that its still part of the game.
Removing the dunking on the goal post is actually a good rule. Most of the other celebration rules are stupid.
I think they are extending the vertical pipes 5 ft, not the height of the cross bar, but I could be wrong.
We'll probably see posts swaying more in high winds with this extension, would love to see the Pats lose a game because the post swayed enough to make a winning FG miss outside.
They should just put barcodes in the balls and barcode scanners on the tips of the goal posts and on the goal line.
Yeah since that has happend so often. I just think it goes back to the No Fun League, I mean what's the big deal?
Just needs to happen once. It slows down the game and can cause a problem. All other rules such as, "moving to the ground" or the many excessive, i agree with you. However the dunking rule is actually a good one.
I miss the days of a player just handing the ball to the official and going on to celebrate with his team mates on the side line... When can we get rid of the ridiculous sack dances now ?? Cracks me up, a team is down by 20 points and a defender makes one solid tackle and jumps up dancing and acting like and idiot...
It did happen this past year. Graham dunked a ball vs. Atlanta and bent the post. Stopped play but I don't know for how long.
The problem wasn't Graham dunking the ball. The problem was he hung on the goal post with both hands. No one else who dunks has done that and caused the game to stop. Graham did it one time (idiot!). It's a stupid rule, imo. The goal post dunk is almost a natural move on many TD's. It's arguably the only interesting end zone celebration after they banned every other move on the planet. They should just penalize a guy if he hangs on the post or causes it to bend in any direction. Give the other team 15 yards and fine the guy.
Pretty soon the Lambeau leap will be a major fine for us when we celebrate. Roger Goodell is wrecking the game.
Yes. It's the vertical pipes. BB and a few others asked for it to be done because some FG calls have been controversial as the ball went right over top the posts. I think that is a good rule change because you want to get those calls right. If a ref calls a FG good and it would likely have doinked off the goal post - that's not good, no matter who the teams are.
why do so many fans have to have a all serious attitude concerning sports a little comedy never hurts and show boating is fun and more wackiness the better miss Terrell Owens and his dancing on the star .
Stopping taunting and taking more fun out of cellibrations? Ya, those cleary caused more trouble than the blown calls last year. I'd hate for a players feelings to be hurt. Hell, let's just elimiate the playoff because, you're all winners!
They ought to have celebrations when WE make a touchdown. Or at least when WE make a FG. Or at least when we get in the Red Zone. I think that would be only fair, since we don't get many of them. Don't you guys?
Jeff fisher is gross, he's on the network talking about the rules changes and I swear he's rocking the button down one button to low, and I mean low baby, were talking bush and gold chains low..creepy..oh and it's not an accident, he went there.
My #1 football pet peeve...or a safety gets burned left and right, then makes a stop on a run, AFTER the guy gets the 1st down...jumps around like he did something... Will never see a rule against that stuff though IMO...you'd have to completely outlaw stupidity, and where would the league be then?
I agree Goodell is hurting the league. I'm in somewhat the same mind as Mark Cuban, give it 10 years...
If you think meaningless celebrations is what's going to kill the league then you're wrong. I don't like Goodell as much as the next person but in some cases you have to ask yourself, what do you expect the man to do? First of all some of these safety rules Goodell has brought to the game is HEAVILY influenced by billion-plus dollar brain/head/concussion lawsuits he has received over the past decade and a half. Also influenced by the several suicidal players the NFL has had. Second, it's a stupid goal post dunk, you think fans are tuning in to see a 2 second celebration done by a football player? They're tuning in to see touchdowns, defense, and talent. They don't give a **** about a goal post dunk and they especially don't care to see us go to extra commercial time because Jimmy Graham knocked the goal post down. The NFL has a time slot with these Also Mark Cuban's comments were based on the NFL putting a game on more days a week, saying that people will get bored of watching football all the time and people will eventually tune out of it. Well this is ONE guy (me) that is never bored of football and I won't be tuning out. NFL will remain king in this nation.
Instead of outlawing dunking, I propose they add an additional post to the ground and that will eliminate any swaying or moving of the post.
I'm of the complete opposite opinion. I'd like to see kickoffs removed entirely. Just start on the 20 for each drive.
I want kickoffs to start at the 20 again, kickoffs is part of the tradition of the game just as much as the field goal is.
Nope clean, deal breaker for me. Seriously though, that's just so weird to me for a head coach..like the shirt was open to the bottom if the rib cage..perfectly pressed shirt, bush everywhere..his little half mullet..and the chain...weird.
I like this idea. I'm not against TD celebrations, but i didn't find the goal post ban too crazy since it can disrupt the game if the guy bends the post or whatever. I'm blindly guessing this idea may have come up but they said "no lets just ban it to make it easier on the refs". But really, if they hadn't already banned the less disruptive type celebrations, then there would be plenty to do after a TD besides the dunk and this ban would not be a big deal in my eyes. As is stands though, taking away the dunk is like taking the last bastion of end zone celebrations, so it means a bit more.
I'm not saying the goal-post mess is what's ruining it...I think the blatant "we're all about $$$ we don't care how we get it" is getting out of hand. Throw in the NFL having rampant drug use, it's getting fairly stupid. That s*** ruined baseball for me, would hate to see the NFL be seen the same for me, but they're headed that way.
