This is what I had written about Cooks before the season comparing him to Wheaton:

I was wrong then, he's definitely faster than Wheaton.

Polian compared Clowney physically to Bruce Smith. If that is true in terms of play some division is in for a loooong decade or so.

Not meant to spam or change the tone of this thread, but if anyone is interested in the GML (GM League) we run here in the message board, please go here: http://www.thephins.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?117-2014-GM-League-Forum You essentially get to take a team and run them in the offseason, complete with trades, free agency, draft and a basic salary cap. Currently we are looking for a GM to take over the Kansas City Chiefs. There may be a couple of other teams opening up in the next week or so. Please PM me if you are interested or have any questions. Thanks.

It's a lot of fun and a great way to fill downtime with football stuff.
Plus it's right up the alley for you guys who love the draft.
... and if you're a Madden Franchise Mode addict, this is right up your alley.
I'm surprised a few of you haven't already been playing by now TBH. Ahem, Chris.

If y'all are wondering just how high Aaron Donald stacks on my board, I was structuring the official spreadsheet last week and the week before and I have four groups.

    1. Marquee
    2. 1st Round
    3. Day Two
    4. Day Three

But each group has multiple rows which lets me mentally note where within the group I consider that guy.

As of now I have 10 players in the "Marquee" category. Aaron Donald is one of them. But he's on Line 1 of that group along with Sammy Watkins, Teddy Bridgewater and Jadaveon Clowney.

So officially I've had Aaron Donald as a Top 4 talent in this draft.

    I toy with it.

The Marquee names are basically for long term difference makers. The quarterback position is by nature a difference-making position. So if you really believe this quarterback is going to be a franchise guy then he's going to be a difference-maker. I don't consider Teddy Bridgewater and Blake Bortles to be Christian Ponder types, guys that you know are going 1st round only because if you need the position then you need to take chances. I think they belong in the 1st round, legitimately. So to me that kind of means almost by definition you have to fit them into that Marquee category.

That makes sense it just seemed that those 3 at the top had either skill or physical shortcomings that would keep them out of being marquee.

Here is what is going into the book for Trai Turner.

I'm having trouble with Xavier Su'a-Filo just because I find it hard as an evaluator to translate his tape at tackle to the inside at guard. That's probably just a shortcoming of mine but it's tough for me. I'm all over the map because of it.

But I will say that of the guys that actually played guard, Trai Turner is clearly my top one.

The best part is how he calmly stood up and seemed to be balanced. Then its just like someone tipped the first domino and he went straiggt down.

I take it back, I just noticed the guy to the far left that starts to laugh as the gif ends. Awesome. That is the best part.

A OG prospect that has stood out so far for me is Brandon Thomas from Clemson. 5.09-40, 35 reps, 4.83 shuttle. I watched some stuff on youtube against LSU where he played LT and RT and he looked good. He is athletic and strong. Kick him inside and I think you can start him at guard in a zone blocking scheme. I would pick him in the 3rd-4th round.

There most likely is, especially considering the staggering lists of other teams and their interviews, it's just the info that Walt is getting about our team interviews is coming at a drip while others are coming full force.

Reminds me - before I really got into draft stuff a few years ago (writing, etc) I'd buy 2 draft magazines usually Pro Football Weekly and another. When I would get to the Miami Meets section in Draft Winds each week, I would go through the PFW magazine (they were very papery) and code in who visited with Miami with different letters for different events. I'd get to draft day and try to figure out who Miami was drafting based on the different visits and little check marks each guy had in the magazine. Now I've got excel sheets with with over 10,000 plays charted. How time flies.

By the way, this post is apropos of nothing, I'm just being nostalgic. To make this post more relevant, I'll say that it's interesting they're looking at Carey and Mason - would like to see them go after a real RB threat that's not Daniel Thomas.

Tre Mason much more preferable to Ka'Deem Carey.

Which of course means they'll draft Ka'Deem Carey.

So then why not watch his Stanford game at G? :shifty:
Great upside intermixed with plays of WTF.

Here's the upside- 1:17. 2:44. 3:48- can reach block like a sonofabich. Might come in handy.
bottom clip-- 2:16. 3:18- good idea of what he could offer as a zone blocker.

    Here's the WTF side- 1:52, 3:26, 3:07
That's it in a nutshell. Plays d-line stunts like he's running on marbles. Hopefully it's just a tackle to guard adjustment thing. Wonder if he got moved back out to LT because those stunts were eatin' his lunch.

Taking a look at and doing sack studies on some of the pass rushers who had better 3 cones, shuttles, and 40s at the Combine.

Started with Jackson Jeffcoat who I'm really unimpressed by. Most of his sacks and successful pass rush snaps were either beating up on TEs or coverage sacks where he got the QB only after an inordinate amount of time. Struggled at times even beating one-on-one TE blocks quickly. Doesn't seem to possess any plus athletic qualities on tape. CBS Sports has him tentatively as a 2nd rounder. Alex Okafor was light years ahead of Jeffcoat and he went in the 4th.

    Update:

Kareem Martin is really interesting. First thing I thought seeing him was that his body type reminded me of Quinton Coples, not just because of the UNC uniform but just that length (although apparently his arms are longer than Coples') and frame. At the start I thought his length was nice, but it wasn't translating to pass rush. However, the more I got in, the more I was impressed by his strength in particular. Two of his sacks he either pushed the guy back into the QB or put the OT on his back. Other pass rush snaps he showed that same strength over a variety of pass rush moves. I don't think his first step or anticipation off the ball is great, but once he gets going is where he can translate that speed into power. His snap to sack time was a surprisingly high 3.61 seconds which is slower than speed guys like Ealy and Barr, but pretty close to Mack and Attaochu at a much higher weight than either of those guys.

Years ago everyone was all high on Jackson Jeffcoat thinking he's a future 1st rounder and I kept telling people this guy is NOT impressive.

    He's still not.

I don't know if you will like Kareem Martin, but I like him a LOT. I have him behind Scott Crichton but ahead of James Gayle. And those guys are all Day 2 for me. Kony Ealy is really the only one above them as far as true DEs go.

Agree on Martin. In any other draft he'd be a 2nd rounder in the least. This year he is likely a 3rd rd prospect.

Khairi Fortt intrigues me a lot. He and Pierre-Louis really helped themsleves, were slotted as 7th rounders before combine.

Bodine, Bitonio, Leno tested well. That makes me not in love with the OL high for us. We'll miss out if we go Oline in this draft.

The bright side about going OL in this draft is there are a lot of good ones.

I think the consensus is starting to come around that the Dolphins can't get Jake Matthews, Greg Robinson or Taylor Lewan. But then again, I'm not positive on Lewan being gone as three tackles in the top 18 with all the other talent on the board doesn't always happen.

Just looking at it you have 3 quarterbacks in the discussion, 2 wide receivers, arguably 1 or 2 tight ends (I think Jace Amaro inserted himself firmly into discussion), 2 or 3 tackles, at least 1 to 3 defensive tackles, 1 to 2 defensive ends, 2 or 3 linebackers, 1 safety about to go off today (Pryor) and you know 1 corner will go at least and possibly 3.

So at the worst you have 14 guys off the board with guys like Jace Amaro, Taylor Lewan, Ra'Shede Hageman, Timmy Jernigan, Kony Ealy, C.J. Mosley and a couple of corners (don't know which guy goes first) that could fall.

I don't really imagine Taylor Lewan being the guy that does fall to 19 but then again maybe so. The off field stuff may be significant enough for one team with a need to pass on him and then that's all it takes.

For me when the Dolphins pick at 19 it's likely to come down to (again emphasizing that this is ME, not Dennis Hickey) in no particular order: Jace Amaro, Tre Mason, Lache Seastrunk, Brandin Cooks, Allen Robinson, Timmy Jernigan, Ra'Shede Hageman, Calvin Pryor or Kyle Fuller.

Kyle Fuller who is my best CB in the Draft ran a 4.40.

Darqueze Dennard who is my second best ran a 4.42.

I have both guys in my "Marquee" category.
