Count CBS lead analyst Phil Simms among those who believe it's conceivable the Dolphins could go from 1-15 to 9-7 -- as Bill Parcells did when he took over a 1-15 Jets team. ''If I don't see a big jump from John Beck, I'll be a little disappointed,'' Simms said. ``The answer at quarterback is there. My first reaction is Chad Henne has the highest ceiling of the three.''

And Simms assured ''Jason Taylor is going to play if he's not traded. If he walks away from $8 million, I've underestimated his wealth. Everyone puts too much stock into, `I've got to have a ring.' ''

I usually like what Simms says because it is semi intelligent and he has a decent knowledge of the game but I still think his lips are attached to Parcells cheeks like Keyshawn and Peter King. 9-7? 9-7? Sounds like Phil and LT have been up all night with the "sniffles" making comments like that.

Simms hit the head of nail right on...it all depends on our QB play. Many of the pieces are in place now. The question is whether Beck, McCown or Henne rise to the occasion...

Funny how the coaches have changed, the FO has changed, but the questions remain the same....It's all about our QB and OL...

I think that Simms is one of the best talent evaluators out there. He had a great comment about Fiedler, whose inccuracy was his downfall- he was so wristy in his throwing motion that accuracy was almost impossible- the master of the floating pass, catnip for safeties. I remember being at a Dolphins/Raiders game where he floated one right into the arms of Anthony Dorsett, I believe. A perfect pass- to Dorsett.

Hopefully Beck will have a quantum leap in performance this year and I expect him to win the starting QB job. At least he got bigger- he looked like a little kid out there last year. I would hope that McCown and Henne impress as well- as long as one of them plays solidly for us this year, I'm fine with that.

Phil Simms has my respect and I will always listen to what he says, he is a straight shooter and it is rude & unfair for people to take such harsh potshots at the guy IMHO. If he thinks we go 9-7 I will have to disagree with him though, but I sure hope he is right and I am wrong on this one.

I think somewhere between 5-7 wins, but, in the NFL, crazy things happen. Didn't the Colts go from 3-13 to 13-3 some years ago? So while we probably won't experience a ten game jump, a 7 or 8 game jump isn't unprecedented.

And IMO, its not even the QB that will make the biggest difference. If we do win 8-9 games, its because the Dline made huge improvements and we are able to stop the run.

Because if we don't play the run better than last year, its not going to matter who we have at QB.

If you guys are old enough, think back to the wildcard game vs Buffalo following the 95 season, when they ran for 300+ yards on us. We had a playoff team and and HOF QB. We could not stop them on the ground and we got mauled.

I really like the way the FO addressed the Dline this offseason. Getting Ferguson and Starks as FA and drafting Merling and Langford is going to be the biggest catalyst for any improvement we make.

I don't know about that. He seems very fair and even handed. He may be a little too positive and optimistic IMO. He almost never has anything bad to say about anyone. He doesn't always have nice things to say about his former coach, actually that seems kind of like a sore subject for him.

He knows football, and I've always respected him as an analyst. Him and Aikman are probably the best former QB analysts out there. Steve Young seems like he is on medication or something. :pointlol:

That's a good post. Remember too, last year we lost like 5 or 6 games by 3 points or less. In the NFL a couple better players could net a 3 or 4 point swing. Saying that, I can see us winning about 8 or 9 games also. Stranger things have happened in the NFL. It really depends on the D line and/or the conerbacks. My personal belief is the d-line makes the CBs look better. If they pressure the QB, it makes the CB job easier.

I tend to agree with Phil Simms here. I think Beck is going to be just fine this year. If he doesnt, I'll be surprised, and disappointed. However thats why im glad we got Chad Henne here too.

I dont know about 9 wins. I guess its possible if we stay 100% healthy. I think thats reaching pretty high. Then again, we should have won at least 4 or 5 other games last year that were close.

As for JT... Simms is dead on here. If JT chooses to walk away on us, I think it just goes to prove the type of person he was. I don't think he will. Hopefully he'll be in camp because i just want this story to end, and go away.
