You can't fault the guy for the teams around him being piss-poor. The guy did what he had to do to lead his team to the playoffs.

He also had the players around him to get to the playoffs.

Alas its a trick questions as theyre both combo guards. id personally take Roy as hes a more efficient shooter and a better passer. Hes also a more dynamic player going to the hoop as he can definitely take it to the rack and get to the foul line or penetrate and dish. Those are aspects that cant be underscored when you have a player who can create his own shot and get to the foul line at will. :wink2:

Brandon Roy is not better than Joe Johnson on Defense. Johnson isn't often asked to guard the other teams best scorer, because they ask him to do so much of offense. I have a hard time calling Roy more clutch also did you watch this years playoffs series against the Celtics. Joe Johnson carried the Hawks almost past the Champs. If there offensive game is the same how come Johnson the last 2 years has put up 25, 22 while Roy only 17 and 19, with Johnson the better outside shooter. The only thing Roy does much better than Johnson at this point is protect the ball.

johnson is not that good at defense bro, did you watch that video i just posted? roy drove on him like it was nothing to tie the game....and roy locked up johnson who has put up 25 ppg.....roy is better slasher, handler, passer, defender, and is more clutch....sorry bro roy takes over in the fourth quarter, i have a hard time saying that to a player who couldn't even lead the team to .500 record in the east

Yes great vid of Brandon Roy ripping up the Hawks in the regular season.

Here is a video of this years playoffs against the Celtics. Not sure how Roy is "more clutch" than Johnson right now.

who else is on that team besides joe "always pissed off" smith? Joe Johnson is a better scorer than roy by a pretty good margin, and defensively its not like roy is Gary payton

Johnson puts up more points because he shoots more. But he also shoots a lower percentage.

No, I don't think he's too high. He's right where he should be all things considered. If he stays healthy and continues putting up double doubles or even improving on 13 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 2blks, he should be in the top 20 easily. And don't forget his defensive presence.

    Yeah, you misunderstood.

Just because he is better or equal to those guys now, doesn't mean he will be for the next 10 years, or have their careers.

Now, that is a crazy statement.

Wanna know how you define a GREAT player?

he has a "bad" year and you look at his stats and he is in the top 5 in scoring with 24 ppg and 46% shooting.

Paul has had one year..that doesn't make him better than D-Wade.

Oh, so even though he is equal to or better than those guys right now... while only 22 years old... doesnt mean he will be as good during his career?

Is he going to get worse all of a sudden? He isnt going to improve from where he is at now? Even though he has consistantly improved every year he has been in the league?

I really fail to see your logic regarding Dwight, Section...

His peak (being a player that relies on his physical gifts) will be at a younger age, and thus he will have a shorter career than those guys, and thus won't be as good overall.

So... you dont think there is a chance in hell that he "might" be able to develop more as a player other than relying on his physical skills?

Even though his touch around the basic improved greatly this year?

    That is so rediculous Section...

I LOVE the Heat... but come on... take off the red and black glasses.

Dwight is 22 years old. He has improved every single year he has been in the league... and now all of a sudden this past year was his peak? He no longer will continue to improve like he has done consistantly?

What are you basing this "peak" on? Anything?

KG and Kobe were both good right out of high school..and over ten years later, theyre both still playing at a high level in the NBA. MJ also peaked early on in his career and went on to have great seasons every year, when with the Wiz.

    completely different players.

Howard relies on his physical gifts.

it is just a fact that those type of players have a shorter peak curve.

I could care less, since he will probably end up with the heat anyway.

I have explained my view already.

It doesn;t mean he won;t be in the top 5 eventually...or win an MVP...or make the hall of fame for that matter.

    Looking at historical career stats.

Usually, skilled backcourt players reach their peak at around 30 years old, and then start a slow decline.

For Big men it usually is a little lower, at around 28 years old.

For guys that rely on their physical ability, the decline usually begins at 26 years old and makes for shorter careers.

Alot of it also has to do with the type of team theyre on and how many mpg they average. If on a good team, the less wear and tear the players has to go through. Kobe has had that benefit, I think.

I think we have seen his growth curb already. he has had 4 seasons. that is usually what it takes.

he has used his growth curb to improve his defense and his touch around the basket.

you will slight improvement over the next 4 years.

but his peak will be that of a 22 and 12 player.

Interesting. I think he will develop more arsenal around the basket but outside of that, I don't see anything else. By the time he's done, I think he'll be a 26 and 12 player and I'd gladly take that on my team.
