There really has been no indication of this. There have been a few indications he wants to keep her what she is, which is an autonomous football administration executive that does not answer to the General Manager. And I think that's something that is throwing people off. The person in Dawn's position should be under the GM and do his bidding. If he says sign a guy at any cost, you better sign him.

I think it's a bad structure and I think they should just promote Gaine and have the three person dynamic of Gaine, Aponte and Philbin running the team in 2014. Then everyone essentially riding on the success of Philbin's team in 2014.

And when that crashes and burns, then they can clean house in 2015 and maybe this time Ross will get it right as far as how to structure the organization.

If we end promoting Brian Gaine, Aponte and Philbin will be pulling the strings, it's Wanny/Spielman all over again.

If it happens I hope Ryan Tannehill has a great year, stays in one piece....and we go 3-13 and every is FINALLY fired.

Aponte is the most qualified to be the GM. And that would make the franchise very stable.

The difference between Wanny/Spielman and this situation was the fact that Wanny has already made personal decisions and was very bad at it. Heck Spielman had a pretty good trade set up for Hasslebeck who is better than Fielder, however Wanny waffled and we lost out.

We do not know what this situation would entail. None of us have seen Gaine, Aponte or Philbin try to build a team. For all we know, those three would be great at it.

Whatever the rep is around the league, I would think any executive who is looking to be promoted to a GM would do his (or her, I suppose) own due diligence before turning down an interview. Only 32 such jobs out there, and chances don't always come. Even if I'm executive A out there who generally thinks negative of the Dolphins situation, if they have an opening, I'm still checking into it, and certainly going to come for an interview if honored with such a request.

For all we know, these rumors are coming from Ireland, or some Ireland associate who simply wants to make the Dolphins look like a mess for retribution? Honestly, my guess is about as good as Cole's reporting at this point.

She seems to have been a great capologist on the financial side but she also has ambitions of becoming a GM and having greater power within Miami's organization [which she's secured].... yet she spent the past few years schmoozing up to and following around like a puppy dog the guy who for all intents and purposes knows dick about football or running a team. I could be jumping the gun here but to me that seems like the actions of a self-serving person or at least those of a person who places the team's best interest behind their own.

Yeah, letting her help with the finances is fine, but I definitely do not want Aponte to have the GM position. Definitely not. I just think we have to let this play out and the rumors could change from day to day. I'm hoping they go in a different direction, but we shall see.

    :sidelol:

Why, because of her vast years spent assembling successful teams, or her storied success in identifying talent, or her history of showing she knows enough about football to put together a winning philosophy, choose the type of schemes etc that the team should be operating in order to help Ross narrow down the coaching candidates, etc?

You can't have a great year as a quarterback and yet be 3-13. If we go 3-13 next season he's a bust.

Ross said the main thing he wants in the new GM is a proven successful track record of talent evaluation. What about that makes her the most qualified? She has only ever worked on the administrative side. Not the personnel, talent evaluation, side.
Tell us all, oh wise one, what exactly about her makes her most qualified?

One thing I find peculiar. Omar Khan is supposed to be a finances guy. Could this mean..Aponte isnt as secure as what is being pushed by Irelando?

I'm with you on that my friend...... but when we look at Miami's team page we see:

....and we already know she was involved in the 2012 coaching search and selection of Philbin. I'm glad Ireland is gone b/c I want bigger and brighter things for the team, but I can understand his frustration over how much power Ross gave her b/c for the life of me I don't understand why a person who spent roughly the past 20 years on the financial and legal side [rather than the football side] was given a say in choosing the coach. Sure, she seemed good at reducing our cap and subsequently overpaying in free agency and contract extensions, but what the hell does she know about Cover 2?

Like I said previously, she spent the past few years following around the guy who knows little enough about football that he constantly has to seek outside advice about it. So between that and the time-consuming financial/legal side of her job, how much time does she have to actually learn the football side of things? If I were a GM who spent my career scouting players and learning and understanding the football side of it and all its complexities and an owner told me he wants to give some of the authority in this area to a person on the financial/legal side, I wouldn't want any part of it.

To me that's like being a mechanic and having my boss announce that his accountant will be getting under the hood with me.

That which you think disqualifies her is what I think makes her best qualified - she is not a football person, and she is a money person. She will be responsible for hiring and firing the HC and the Dir of Personnel, managing the money, contracts, and reporting to Ross. She will hold the power of firing and hiring but not without Ross consent obviously. She would be an impartial arbiter based on results over the HC and Dir of Personnel, and fair because it's all based on results. Just like we have here, Ross and her would hire the man with plan, be it HC or Dir of Personnel, and that person would have input on the hiring of the other to help him accomplish the goals. They will be given reasonable time frame to accomplish those goals. That is what we have now essentially. This is a stable structure, where the top decision makers are familiar, on the same page, constant, and those who have issued contracts and directly involved with agents. The moving components are football experts. This is execatly how I think the franchise should be ran, rather then having a revolving door of philosophies and top management.

Exactly the problem. What GM worth a damn would want to share equal power with a person on a the financial/legal side when the majority of the organization's success is decided on the football field, including the players identified you want on it?

Does the GM get equal power on the legal/financial side or is that primarily Aponte's domain?

IMO the fact there's a report Dolphins asked for permission to interview Omar Khan from Pittsburgh, is enough to give pause to this rumor that Aponte is the one in charge going forward and holds all the cards. Khan does exactly the same thing as Aponte, and if he were hired it would not be as a GM, but to do Aponte's job and be a man in charge type of deal.

It might be a case that the Dolphins are considering different types of team structures, depending on the candidates that are interested and depending of the plan they present Ross for the team.

That's a good point. I don't think Ross knows how to define the GM and finance roles if these newspaper articles are to be believed. The roles should be mutually exclusive but he has somehow managed to intermingle the two. He's created a monster by putting too many chefs in the kitchen. I don't know why he wants to re-invent the wheel. We need an autonomous GM with a track record or he is simply "settling".

Then again, these reporters have an on-going agenda to sabotage the team and their motive is to probably push Aponte out because she keeps the team from being transparent.

Success on the football field is dependent on finances. You are playing a game of allocating a finite number of financial resources. The game inherently involves economics and finance.
