Ireland was her boss when she joined the team four years ago. But after Parcells left in October 2010, she lost her chief sponsor. And she wasn't comfortable with Ireland as her supervisor. So soon after Joe Philbin was hired, Aponte decided she and the new coach could bond and that alliance could strengthen each person's position within the organization. Aponte, club sources say, also found ways to ingratiate herself to owner Stephen Ross. Nothing wrong with that. He's the boss. She would often ask to join Ross on his private jet flights back to New York from home games, often citing a need to handle club business at the league office in New York. Knowing that Ireland had tried to get her fired, Aponte turned her sights on the GM. The relationship between the two, professional and even cordial in public at league meetings and alike, was a struggle for power behind the scenes. Aponte, strengthened by her alliance with Philbin, had been winning that struggle for quite some time. She made herself very visible, attending practically every practice. She advised Philbin on how to handle the media before every weekday press conference -- that meeting sometimes taking longer than the actual press conference. She attended the coach's show and made sure the questions were positive and gave Philbin an opportunity to shine. She edited the videos the team posted on its website of the Philbin postgame speech to the players. (Unfortunately for Philbin, she didn't think to cut out the part where coach needed to read off index cards to deliver his address). Read more here: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolp...ut-from-ireland-vs-dawnjoe.html#storylink=cpy -- Knock it all you want because it's an Armando story, but it makes sense to me. Aponte- the conniving, power hungry manipulator. Philbin- the weak tool of a patsy head coach. I hope that we get rid of both of them.
It makes sense except the part you added about Philbin. Is it possible she aligned herself with Philbin because he isn't a terrible coach?
He's the head coach, bottom line, whether or not I think that he's a good one. And if he allowed himself to be manipulated by Aponte of his own accord, as she tried to further her agenda, by allowing her to be attached to his side like a controlling remora, reading off of index cards provided by her- seroiulsy, what kind of weak crap is that? I don't think that Philbin is a bad guy, but I wasn;t crazy about him to begin with, then you have the whole Aponte debacle and the last 2 game flatline collapse. He's just a weak leader, and of course that's just my opinion. I want him and Aponte OUT so all of this festering b.s. can be cleared, slate wiped clean for a new, effective GM. What GM would want to worry about the same crap- head coach and executive VP forming an alliance aganist the GM, all the talking behind backs, ratting out, manipulating, all of that. It's all garbage, send it all out to the curb. Philbin looks like a frail old man that Aponte will lead by the hand to press conferences, where he can read more of her script off of index cards next year. He's weak, and the whole thing is pathetic.
Read every business executive ever. Seriously who hasn't been in a situation where they felt they could do a better job then their boss, and made sure to make themselves visible and valuable to the organization. That way when he inevitably ****s up and gets himself canned, look who becomes a top prospect to replace him. Honestly that article makes Ireland look like a little ***** for trying to get Aponte fired. But we get it you are trying to feed the narrative that you want, seeing as how this is the 2nd or 3rd article you've posted today that is written by Salguero or used him as a source. Dolphin's fans are funny, as for the last week we've been hearing "Ross is a fool because he won't fire Ireland. We're doomed". He goes and proves everyone wrong and now it's "Oh no we're dysfunctional we can't get a good GM candidate because of Philbin, Aponte etc." Seriously people chill out and enjoy the process. We might all be surprised.
How would Aponte know whether or not that's the case when she formed her alliance with him soon after he was hired? I don't think she cared what kind of coach he was. She's an attorney so I'm guessing she quickly realized Philbin would be around for at least a year, so why not bond with the guy that our owner personally chose as Miami's new head coach.
Oh joy, now you're here to back track on your stance as per Aponte. Yeah, she might have been forming an alliance with a weak head coach against the GM. Golly, that's sure what I 'd want my Executive VP to be doing if I were Ross. Ireland, Philbin and Aponte are all in their own ways pathetic- Ireland got the chop and with any luck the other pathetic two will be sacked before a new GM is hired.
More Armando hogwash. Oh Ireland the poor victim of the schemings of Dawn Aponte, aka The Wicked (B)Witch of the East, and her milquetoast puppet Joe Philbin, aka Pinocchio. Brave Armando here to set the record straight at the behest of his master.
BTW two tweets from Darlington 4m ago. Who are you going to believe on this? Darlington who did such a great job as a beat writer he became a successful NFLN reporter or Armando "High Five Gate" Salguero?
He does. But coaches can improve too. If Philbin had been a long time was coach I would understand wanting him gone, but he's been doing this for only 2 years.
Here's some more. This is a great point, and a reason why I don't think we should be chicken littling yet. If a great GM Candidate sells Ross on why Aponte isn't needed, guess who will be gone?
I'd believe the Iraqi Defense Minister before I believe a single word coming out of Armando's piehole.
I never said that Ross wouldn't fire Ireland. What I'm hoping is that Aponte and Philbin get canned as well. You apparently have a great respect for the Machiavellian approach to advancement, but personally I'd rather see a positive and stable coaching staff and FO as opposed to back stabbing, smack talking, infighting, index card reading like a spineless robot, etc. And as to Armando- I've never been a fan, but this article in particular I find to be interesting. New info as to what's been going on behind the scenes as per Aponte, Ireland and Philbin. And yes, I want them all gone. Ireland and Aponte are jerks imo, regardless of your opinions on conniving, positioning, back stabbing, etc. Philbin is just too weak to be a head coach imo, and he made some lousy decisions. If he allowed Aponte to be at his side constantly and read those press conference index cards provided by Aponte of his own accord, then I have even less respect for him than I did before.
How do you figure? Aponte forms an alliance with Philbin against Ireland which obviously wasn't constructed on good intentions, but you think Ireland looks like a b**** for wanting her conniving *** fired? Are you high? If you were in Ireland's position I guess you would've just passively stood around and watched her run you into the ground, eh?.... because that would've been the manly thing to do, right?
It’s a coveted job for number of reasons: 1. One of healthiest caps in NFL. 2. Young, talented QB. 3. Strong nucleus. If folks agree with that statement it reflects well on the last GM...lol
Keep in mind when you read this, that Armando is the writer...Who is Mando's chief source for information ?? Jeff Ireland, a direct line of communication since JI has been here. What has just transpired ?? JI, reportedly, was given an option to stay but without full personnel power, something Ross had to have to improve the FO or move on. He chose to move on. He's bitter about it...put two and two together, and suddenly Mando is spewing all this 'sour grapes' stuff about the staff under/peered of JI as if JI was an innocent all the while...
You might be inclined to believe this because perhaps you already have a negative predisposition towards Philbin and Aponte. This is not new info, but Armando selling the readers more snake oil. Seriously, doesn't this strike you at all as a disgruntled employee - Ireland - using his mouthpiece to smear and slander his former employer and coworkers? This information is almost certainly coming from Ireland, and considering it is more favorable to him, who was fired, and damning to those who stayed, doesn't it give you cause to pause and perhaps question the veracity and accuracy of the story?
What I read in those tweets is: People are taking note that he is not rigid and able to admit his mistake. AND If anyone in the organization can prove their stance or themselves then Ross is able to refocus.
What backstabbing was going? The only thing close (based on what we heard) is that Aponte told Philbin that Jeff was talking **** about him. Everything else appears that Aponte came in as a capologist, but wanted to be more than that (who can blame her?) So she made it known to the ownership that she wanted more power and demonstrated how she can do such things. No I would have done my job better. Someone has their sights set on my title and power, do I run to my supervisor and ask him/her to fire them? No. I improve my performance and continue to make myself valuable to the organization so that they don't want to get rid of me. How insecure do you have to be to try and get someone canned?
How do you know that it's hogwash? You may not like the messenger and neither do I, but the message sounds reasonable enough to me. So unless you have something to back up what you're saying, you can take your snarky posts elsewhere.
Hmm Read more here: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolp...ut-from-ireland-vs-dawnjoe.html#storylink=cpy Hmm, I wonder who that source could me So Ross basically b!tch slapped Ireland back after the 2011 but rather than cleaning house by firing Sparano and Ireland, he keeps Ireland on to find a new HC. Does that make sense or does it sound like a bit of revisionist history from someone with an ax to grind. (Hmm, I wonder who that could be). BTW I guess Ross did a lot of mulling because Aponte wasn't promoted to EVP until August 2012 but let's not let facts ruin a good story.
Of course I have a negative predisposition as per Aponte and Philbin, I've been clear about that. But I didn't dream up Apone shadowing Philbin in a really peculiar way. I didn't dream up Aponte controlling Philbin's press conferences, nor did I dream up Philbin emasculating himself by reading off of Aponte supplied index cards at press conferences like a little b****. I never liked Armando, and as far as I'm concerned he and Ireland can jump off of a cliff together, hand in hand. Metaphorically speaking, of course. But the article makes sense to me, unfortunately. And to me, at least, it's all pretty disgusting. I want no part of a connniving manipulator like Aponte and I want no part of a sniveling manipulated weakling like Philbon as a head coach. That'sa why I want the decks cleared, start fresh with the new GM, not have this stink of Aponte and Philbin lurking in the background.
Because Salguero's primary source the last few years has been Ireland. In this case the messenger affects the message, because it's quite likely there is a lot of bias and spin to paint a picture that supports Ireland. Seeing as how they were close, and the sources that Armando lists in the article could be Jeff.
I like how Ireland tries to get Aponte fired, but when she starts to protect herself from him by aligning with others she's the backstabber.
How is Philbin sniveling and weak? How do we know her coaching him didn't go down like this? "Joe, you seem to struggle with the public speaking aspect of this job, especially with the media. Would you like my help to coach you up and improve on it?"
The post was not directed to you, but commenting on Armando. I meant no malice towards you. However, the fact that it is Armando with the story and considering his likely source, it is evidence enough that this story is either a lie or a distortion of the truth. Armando cannot be trusted, specially with this story and specially under this circumstances.
If even 1% of this article is true Ross should clean house completely and let the new GM bring in his own people. Whether any one believes this info or not, it's out there for the viewing of any and all possible Ireland replacements, and I for one would have a hard time believing the "cream of the crop" would want to deal with any of this office politics, back biting/back stabbing junk.
Because if she's smart she would know forming an alliance with an unproven coach could be disastrous? My guess would be that she didn't like Ireland and also had faith Philbin would get thr job done?
Won't be shocked if Aponte is axed this week honestly. I don't think Ross gives two ****s about this sideshow she's giving.
What if the GM decides he wants those people in the house? It'd be silly to fire everyone then have your GM say "Hey I actually wanted them here". It remains to be seen how this will all play out, but I wouldn't be surprised if Ross gave the new GM or VP of Football Ops the ability to do so. Save for maybe Philbin, I think Ross convinces the new person to give him a year.
I appreciate thought, but I didn't take it personally. I've been just about clear as I can be- I don't like Armando either. But that doesn't change that to me, the story rings true. And I find it all to be kind of disgusting. Is all that infighting, all the machinations, really good for the front office of a professional sports team? And as to Ireland- who knows whether he's Armando's source- you sure don't and I don't either. But my best guess is that what was said is most or all true- maybe not what Aponte and Philbin would want released to the public, but accurate. We all have our opinions- mine is that the new GM, if he can, should make firing Aponte and Philbin priorities # 1 and 2.
I'm not exactly thrilled with Philbin and I wouldn't be upset if he was let go, however even though this story might be true or carry with it some truth mired in hyperbole and manipulation, considering where it is coming from you must be cautious to take it at face value. The more likely scenario is that this is a story concocted by Ireland and delivered by his mouthpiece to smear his former coworkers whom he perceives to have cost him his job. It might be a true story, but it might also be an exaggeration of events purposely manipulated to make those people seem worse than they really are.
And, as such, he got played by Aponte and looked like an idiot with her almost constantly at his side, controlling press conferences and suppliying Joey the parrot with index cards to read off what she wanted him to say. And he looked like a fool doing it.
How about both? Miami is a coveted b/c AND top tier candidates will want assurances about their role in the organization. It's the same deal as when Ross was looking to replace Sparano, any potential HC would take notice of the GM blatantly stabbing his previous HC in the back.
So Aponte out weaseled Ireland? hard to believe. And Ross is the guy that just gets maneuvered into thinking what the weasels want him to? hard to believe.
Aponte never supplied him the cue cards (I reread the article to be sure), she just didn't crop them out when she edited the videos. Other than that she did things that made him look favorable, like go over media tactics, make sure coach got good questions. Actually, isn't that what our PR team should have been doing all along? Again you are buying into and feeding this narrative that Joe is a puppet when all we have is one Salguero article stating as much. You're letting your dislike of Philbin potentially make it more than it is.
