I'm not sure I follow your last post. I can't really think of anyone who was a must to re-sign. Wake got an extension....that is more or less it as far as impact players go.

Not sure beyond a huge cap hit this year iirc. I like Wallace, just saying that we didn't get him at a bargain rate, dude is making a ton of money.

Could one make the argument that with what pool of talent he had to choose from he was the best?

And that if the pool had better talent it would be all relative..?

From which year? Any of the last 3 years we've had FAs we'd like to resign. You yourself said we did not too many pages ago.

I can see why you'd not get what I mean after I said that.

By key players I meant players on our team who are good and play an imporant role on our team.

Now I'm speaking more of players who would actually gather attention around the league in free agency. Either signing them before the contract expires at a team friendly price, or being forced to use good judgement in deciding when too much is too much and letting a player walk. Jake Long is actually a good example of what I mean by the last sentence.

I disagree. Martin, Thomas, Clabo and Breuner fit schematically. I never agree with some of those pick ups (I only liked Clabo and never scouted Breuner. I also liked the G who ended up injured (blanking on the name)), but it's inaccurate to say that an overhaul to the new scheme was attempted.

    Very cool.

I would've liked to see Philbin out too - not a fan of his at all, and I think a void at HC would make hiring a new GM easier. But whatever. Things are changing, and that's good news.

I don't understand what you mean. If you believe those players he signed fig the new system how can you not say there was an overhaul?

Also I'd disagree on Clabo and Thomas fitting.

You can argue those terms like, "important" to death, but it's a waste of time.

You can't measure how much attention some players may get around the league or who may or may not give us a deal. We have very little idea about a lot of that.

I said that the GM had to switch to a new philosophy and completely bring in a new OL (other than C). Reality is that will take time. Especially since OLs have to develop and gel. So there was an attempt at an overhaul and that attempt will necessarily take a few years.

And Clabo had past experience in a zone system while Thomas was smaller G/T with decent feet. Exactly what you'd look for in a zone lineman and the opposite of what Sparano/Parcells coveted.

Sure you can....I can guarantee if Cameron Wake was a FA there would be significant interest. Same for Grimes....in fact why didn't we extend Grimes during the season when we probably would have hotten a better price? We can't know. We can speculate.

What I DO know is that many players have complained about our policy of not discussing extensions in season.

It takes a few games for a line to gel....not a few seasons. IMO of course, but lots of teams revamp their line and don't suffer.

Clabo had experience but had his worst season in that scheme (well previous worst).

I don't see quick feet in Thomas exactly.

Well 68, he sure didnt move the pocket, we have evidence of that, not nearly enough bootlegs, or read option, if Sherman's philosophy didn't have an impact on Tannehills propensity to stay stagnant in the pocket, were fooked.

We can not win a championship playing Qb like that, he must get better at maneuvering within the pocket, and quicker to sense the pressure and escape with efficiency..my hope is that his poor play in those regards was all due to this ridiculous philosophy.

That policy to me really depends on how long we've seen the player perform at that level and how much longer we think they can do it, imo.

The gelling often depends on the coaching and the play calling. I thought those were two factors that hurt the OL. In fact, I think the OL problems would have been mostly masked with better coaching.

I don't believe we are able to sign Grimes to a new contract until after the season or a specific point in time before the free agency period begins. I think the league rule is something to that nature about first year free agents on a one year deal.

To me that is more of a reflection on the GM being Ireland, nothing to do with Aponte.

Side note, I thought Aponte was regarded around the league as being one of the best when it comes to contract negotiations and such. I remember someone posting an article on here about that.

    EDIT: Found it, http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/s...most-powerful-women-is-making-her-mark/nXLcd/

Neither Martin nor Thomas have the hip, knee, and ankle flexibility or the overall stability to play with a wide base to play in a zone scheme. If you watch film of Martin at Stanford, he was on the ground a lot. He would get caught bending at the waist a lot and end up losing his stability and base. Se saw that a lot in Miami, especially in pass pro, where he couldn't anchor.

Dallas Thomas is essentially the same. He was better at anchoring, but he was not good at making blocks he had to reach to make.

I take back all the bad things I've said about Ross. Now the Dolphins fanbase can attempt to move and heal. Hopefully our new GM will have more success.

Thank the Lord, praise Jesus. It's about time this clown is sent packing. Now we just need to hope our new GM will insist Philbin goes bye bye, and all will be well with the world.

Exactly. If I was Tannehill or his agent I would have been thinking f*** you Aponte. I didn't like that at all, and I don't see her as fostering good will among players, she's too harsh. And somewhere down the line that might have an effect in terms of which players want to come to Miami.
