Oh wow, somebody else is intrigued by Jim Popp? Call me a fruitcake, but I would LOVE to see him brought in here. Twenty years as the GM, starting from scratch with an expansion team, and the Alouettes have NEVER missed the playoffs. Not even once. Not. Even. Once. At any level of the sport, that's impressive.
That isn't what I said? I said their contracts were atrocious. That is her job. Negotiating contracts.
@EthanJSkolnick 28m About to tip Heat-Pelicans. I see Pat Riley in his seat. So he's not the GM of the Dolphins yet.
Why are they so bad? Bc we,"paid more than we should of?" We've spent a lot and still have plenty of room for the following season and her contracts allow us to get out early if we need to and not be hit that hard. She's managed the cap well.
The way that she treated Tannehill and his agent was striking to me. And as to her job description, I certainly hope that it doesn't involve shadowing Philbin all season next year like some kind of Svengali. Creepy. How are those Wheeler and Ellerbe contracts looking? What are the cap hits if we dump them before next season? Not so hot, huh? I'm no capologist, but those contracts look to me as if they're overpaid and not easily disposed of. Anyway, you can take your lol's and snarkiness elsewhere, not interested.
Sure we can get out early, after we have been saddled with those contracts for 2-3 seasons. Contract length has been poor as well with several key players expiring seemingly every season. We don't have ss much cap room as you think unless we decide to let most of our FA walk.
lol Who started the snarkiness again? That was you. Idk why don't you show us how bad they'd be? Show me teams that don't have that situation every year. That was the same story as last year and we made it work.
We made it work? We signed more players to bad contracts and saddled ourselves to them for another 2-3 seasons while winning 8 games. You realize Aponte doesn't HAVE to sign who Ireland wants if she can't work out a good deal based on the value of the player in question. Yet she over pays every time.
I still can't believe this is really happening. I was resigned to a fate of watching this guy run the Dolphins into the ground for the rest of my life.
Glad to see you still have your sense of humor after today'd devastating news. If posting way too many gifs counts as having a sense of humor.
Ya, Grimes, Wallace, Clemons, Gibson, Keller. All HORRIBLE deals right? Funny that you put us only winning 8 games on Aponte of all people. It's not about how those players are used at all to you? Overpays as opposed to what teams deals? Show us how she's overpaying, factually.
It's not about finding an O coordinator that pretends to be a head coach, or dumb execs who try and follow that ridiculous approach.. The reason why some love this guy as a prospect, for me at least, has had nothing to do with scheme and all to do with leadership, prescense, and how he treats and talks with his players and fans.. You've got to have the ability to make players want to play for you.all 53..
Wallace is a horrible contract, and I LIKE the guy. Grimes was injured and not getting money anywhere. Keller didn't play...we can't say it was good or bad. Gibson isn't a name that is going to command money either. I actually have no idea what you are talking about, because you keep replying with things unrelated to the conversation and redirecting the topic.
Dude you just tried to shift blame on Aponte for us winning only 8 games. I didn't pull that out of fat air. My point there being that the team was coached terribly and that effected us much more this year than bad signings. Wallace is overpaid, LIKE EVERY OTHER WR. If you're claiming that it's so much worse than show me factually how bad it is, with numbers and all lol Grimes was great bc now we have rights to him again this year. Gibson was a solid player for us and is on a modest deal.
You mean like develop him like a real overall Qb with an athletic skillset..naaaaah, stationary is the way to go... Hmmm, I sure don't recall Philbin overriding the idiotic approach by Sherman.. I'm not that excited..getting rid of Ireland was the right thing to do, but, I have two losses at the end if the season that are troubling me.
I would reread what I said, I didn't blame Aponte for our record. I said how exactly has it "worked out" for us. Are we going to sign more playees to over priced contracts? When you keep having to escape them because you're paying more than you are receiving in production it will catch up over time. Any contract where a player is making more than his production and history warrant is a bad contract. My definition by the way...so we are clear.
Well this is quite the news to wake up to! I got everything I wanted. Ireland and Sherman fired, and Philbin gets another chance.
I'm with you DJ. My main priority was GM and OC going...merry xmas to me! But I still want to see some change in the coaching ranks, particularly OL. Maybe QB coach as well, I just don't know how much influence Tanny's having to stay in the pocket came from Sherman.
Ya you just lumped it in there to be insinuated. Then I think you'll have a hard time finding many, if any players, that fit your definition.
I added a bit more to clarify. Plenty of players make what they are worth actually....most do. I never said she was terrible either. I'm just sauing she isn't some contract savant.
Show us how she's not, actually. You're demanding quite a bit for someone who is bringing nothing more than oppinions to the table. I like Mike Wallace, but who got the better of that contract negotiation, Wallace or Miami? No one is saying that she's not competent at handling contracts- whatever else she does there as per responsibilities I don't know, other than babysitting Philbin. And who, I wonder, told her to do something as awkward and embarrassing as that? I hop ethat she goes to work for the NFL, cut out of the same douche cloth as Ireland.
I doubt most of those wouldn't be playing at premium positions like WR, QB, etc. You've obviously just felt the need to lump her in w Ireland based on very little so I don't think I'm demanding much at all really. Sorry I inquired to hear more than, "well I think she's a *****."
She may of had a hand in getting rid if Marshall, Dansby, Bush, and Davis along with Philbin... She wanted to put the #8 pick back into the draft..not a lot of respect from what have seen..
If I recall correctly, I believe the Wallace contract is VERY team friendly considering the potential of the player. I may be wrong on this, but someone broke it down, and it seemed extremely fair.
You're talking out of your a** as if you had details of all the contracts. She's a decent, yet obnoxious, contract negotiator. If you have a problem with that opinion...
I don't believe it's extremely fair. It's a lot of money no matter how you slice it. What it does have is a back door in case it's a disaster.
And LB? In the end, I don't think either of us can know how good she is or isn't. When was the last time we even had one of our own guys worth resigning? That to me is where skill comes in and you save money. I can admit in FA you will almost always over pay.
