Don't believe the Hype. it only gets worst for a guy that is built around his physical talent. He is one minor knee injury away from becoming extremely limited. He needs to build his offensive skill.
I'm sorry but how does it get worse when its only been better since he came into this league? One minor knee injury? That's hypothetically speaking. You could make a statement like that on any player in any sport. I agree that his offensive arsenal isn't where it should be but this guy is YOUNG. He will only improve and imo, will go down as one of the greatest Centers to ever play this game.
He is built around his physical talent. as you get older, you need to use your skill and intelligence as your physical dominance slowly disipates. His peak curb is lower than most players.
Don't hate. You guys should target UConn's A.J. Price for a PG. Not with the top pick but if you get a mid round pick which isn't likely right now but you never know.
Yeah but as he does get older, he will improve his game. He will have that skill to complement his physical talent. You are correct, as you do get older your physical talent will deteriorate but that will be when he is heading toward 30 which is a long time away. The guy is 22.
Guys this is a good thread lets keep it basketball related and not personal. Some of you are doing a very good job of this, others not so much.
What are you talking about? It isnt hype. I watch him play on a consistant basis living in Orlando. The hype isnt hype... its real. And we dont disagree that he needs to build his offensive skill. But is has been building every year. 04-05 - 12.0ppg 05-06 - 15.8ppg 06-07 - 17.6ppg 07-08 - 20.7ppg And he is only 22. Its not like he is even close to peaking in his prime.... he isnt even close to that...
Imagine a mountain with a peak at 26 that then levels off till 30 and then drops of to nothing. That is what happens to a physically gifted athlete with limited skill.
Dwight has 8 years until he gets turns 30, when he needs to start worrying about his physical dominance slowly disipating. You dont think he is going to develop more skill and basketball intelligence in 8 years? Come on Section...
Official Word on Clippers and Warriors Offers For Brand: The details have come in on the two offers that Brand has received. Brand had been offered 5 year, $70 million dollar deal from the Clippers and the Warriors have offered a deal of 5 year deal for about $90 million. Brand is expected to make a decision TONIGHT. ESPN.com
I am saying that he will reach his peak at 26 and then level off for 4 years and then he will begin to drop off the face of the earth. It's not that he can't develop his offensive game..it's that he won't. He is not that type of player. he is not going to all of a sudden start shooting 15 foot jumpers and develop a post game from the elbow. It never happens with big men. Their curb for the type of player they will be is usually 4 years...MAX.
he is a very good player and will be a very good player..but he will not be: SHAQ, Duncan, Garnett, Brand, or any other type of big man that carries a team. There is no shame in owning the paint like he will for a while.
I agree that he won't be any of the listed but he will carry that team in Orlando. The only question to me is how far?
Not as far as Orlando fans think he will. He is an incredible rebounder, and paint performer, but without outside threats and a point that gets him the ball, can he create?
Darius Miles will be suspended for 10 games next season after violating the NBA's anti-drug policies. There is no word on which substance Miles used. Last season, he was determined to have a career-ending knee injury, meaning his salary won't count toward the Blazers salary cap unless he plays 10 or more games in either of the next two seasons. Miles has been working out in Phoenix recently, but it's worth noting that nobody has ever played in the NBA after being diagnosed with a career-ending injury. Rotoworld.com
Not sure I can agree with that. hes still a baby at 22. He needs to develop a jumper and become better around the basket. Unfortunately Im not sure you can teach "basketball sense" but that doesnt mean he wont be a dominant player. Howard should be a reliable 18point/13rebound/2block guy for a long time if he improves no further. These are ifs but if he can improve at least a couple of these he can become the same caliber player as those you list...and at his age it isnt far fetched: Has to develop a reliable back to the basket move (probably more likely) OR Become a good face to the basket player with a jump shot Has to become a better Free Throw shooter or teams are gonna shaq him. EDIT: he also HAS to be more demanding of the ball. He cant be going long stretches without touches/baskets if he wanst to be a franchise player. That playoff series he just wasnt good enough for someone of his ilk If he gets two of those three in line hes going to become an elite player imo.
Mid-level exception. Maggette has not been offered a contract by Boston. San Antonio is at the top of the hunt for Maggette's rights.
I'm a little nervous tbh. He cant jump ship now can he? If he does all this talk of wanting to wait and see who the Clippers bring in to help him is bs.
I think they were just saying on ESPN that the Clippers have offered him a bigger deal then the Warriors.
He can jump the ship. He verbally agreed. You can't officially sign until the ninth of this month. I still think you will see him in a Clippers uniform.
I'm not sure about that. I don't think the Clippers have enough cap to offer more than $90 million. I know the talk was that when they signed Davis, they would give the remaining money to Brand.
Well, I know he can leave I meant more from a decency standpoint, how he could do that to Clippers fans at this point lol.
NBA News: Hawks Forward Josh Smith has been impressed by the 76ers. They have treated him like a star with limousine tour of Philadelphia and a meeting with the mayor. Smiths representatives will continue talking to the 76ers tomorrow. Smith's teammate Josh Childress will visit the 76ers on Monday. Bulls PG Chris Duhon is mulling over two offers from the Knicks and the Orlando Magic. The Knicks have offered a two year deal worth approximately $7 million dollars and the Magic have offered a three year deal worth approximately $10 million. Duhon has stated he wants to be on a championship contender and all signs point toward the Magic acquiring him. A decision will be made within the week. SI.com
Ooo lol, I knew that . Yeah, if he leaves, he will forever be hated by Clipper fans lol. I'd be surprised as hell if he left. The only thing I could possibly see happening is him delaying his decision to see if the Clippers sign any more players. Of course, if he chose to do that, he would also likely be accepting a lower rate contract. My guess would be that he would accept a deal similar to Davis' deal, if the Clippers were to sign anybody else. The Clippers have about $25 million in cap room and they have given close to half of it to Baron Davis from what I understand. The remaining is expected to be for the Brand signing.
I dont know at the beging at SportsCenter they said something about the Clippers have offered him a big multiy year deal.
Just found some interesting information. According to Marc Stein, the Warriors made a contract offer last night to Elton Brand and Brand refused the offer. The Clippers have committed to Forward Elton Brand and Baron Davis. Brand has stated that he will take less money so the Clippers can build around him with talent. To clarify, the Warriors offered $20 million more than the Clippers. Marc Stein is the only one who has stated this thus far. There has not been any information about Brand tonight. My guess is that Brand will take less money to be a Clipper come tomorrow.
