This has to be one of, if not THE worst, offensive lines in the history of this franchise. Granted, there have been times this season where they've played pretty well, but I think you could probably say that about any season. A new Franchise record for sacks allowed would be enough by itself to probably get a spot in the bottom 5 or so, but with their scintillating 14 yards rushing on 12 carries they now have the dishonorable distinction of having 4 (out of 5 or 6) of the worst rushing performances in Franchise history. Yikes.
Yeah good thing we took dion jordan instead of a quality tackle in the draft. Great move ireland. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
While I understand the line is undermanned, like most are.... Why always resort to *****ing about the gM like you have nothing else to come up with ? Obviously the line held up pretty well the past few weeks, and now one poorly coached performance and your back to bashing the GM without a single intellectual thought as to why we're so inconsistent ? I'm no genius, nor a football expert... But the reasoning here is pretty moronic.
U have a 400 lb over weight fat **** that can't stop eating because he is a pathetic human on the inside to not have any will power to control his eating habits in Jerry, you have a 85 year old Clabo on the right, a 98 year old McKinnie on the Left, a UDFA at LG, Garner who remains on the team year after year but still can't start ahead of the UDFA LG, and Pouncey that is the only one worth a damn. Ireland, you are a genius. You have done something that no man on earth, or in the universe can. Be a disgrace in your profession, disgrace to the level that is unfathomable and yet you still got a contract extension on top of having your job for 5 years.
I wonder how the line might have played if we had a real coaching staff. The entire blocking scheme is a train wreck, not just bad individual performances. I think as soon as Tannehill got "hurt" it doomed everyone.
Anyone have a better sense than me about the coverage or play calling? Because on several of the sacks it looked like 3 step drops and Tanny just didn't see anyone open. That or they were open and he just didn't see them/didn't throw it. I don't know. And there was at least one sack where Tanny didn't step up in the pocket at all. We can sort out the details later. But there's little question to me that every offensive player was pretty bad.
I would say their play the last few weeks would be a credit to our coaches who clearly got them to play above their level. They were exposed for who they are today. Really bad. Our OL has 1 maybe 2 quality NFL starters. It's been that way all season. Jeff had 5 draft picks in the 1st 3 rounds and a boat load of cash to address our OL. What does he do? He drafts a DE/LB that plays sparingly, 2 corners that barely play, an OL who can't crack the starting lineup of the worst OL in the NFL, brings in 2 garbage LB'ers and spends a boat load of cash on a WR who is maybe a top 20 WR. His answer to replace the #1 pick that he took 6 years ago was to move an emotionally weak OT who was horrible at RT and then bring in a RT who has struggled in our system. To top that off, he let's Bush go who could actually make plays and replaces him with 2 guys who are not only bad but also can't pick up a blitzing assignment. Outside of Grimes, every player Ireland replaced unnecessarily has outplayed the person who replaced them. Our team would be better off with Long, Burnett, Bush and Dansby.
It's not the ****ing talent. That's just regular bad, the team can't have gotten where it has without really bad coaching. Mike Sherman has a terminal case of Mike Martz disease. He's so in love with the brilliance of his passing concepts he's liable to disappear up his own ******* in response to any numbers of stimuli. Pretty much everything besides going four-wide or empty backfield out of the shotgun on any down, distance, time of game, or situation is a chore and a bore, and in some cases he's downright churlish with it. If your pass protection is bad, you can't abandon the run. You can't run the ball 25% of the time. You can't consistently line up in situations where it is obvious who your non-linemen blockers are. You can't constantly run 5-man blocking schemes, or 6-man schemes with backs whom cannot block particularly well. You refuse to run screens, draw-plays, or any other type of constraint play. You can't make your play calling so blindly predictable. If the offensive staff was making every effort it could to mitigate the talent problems, then it's different. That isn't happening, they've done far more actively to make it worse.
I'm not so sure he really has. He looks horrible when trying to release from the pocket. It's almost as though he is developing anti-instincts to where he no longer evades the rush, but runs right into it. He is slow minded and has 0 feel for the rush. There was at least two sacks where his hot read was wide open and turned and looking for the ball. I really, really hated the pick and I'm disappointed with his development. We should have drafted Kaepernick instead of Pouncey and Kuechly instead of Tannehill.
He's always been like that but he seems to be getting better. The problem is that the pocket seems to collapse in multiple spots so has no where to run but straight ahead.
I would like to see Sherman gone, he's part of the problem. That said, we simply don't have the talent on this team to run in the NFL consistently. Our Rbs are backup quality at best and our Oline is a historically bad offensive line. The idea that we should run more is great but the talent is so bad that passing is our only real chance at scoring. Also getting down by more than two scores and not being able to stop the run on the other side forces your hand. The talent to run the ball isn't there, that is clearly on the GM.
I don't think either back is starter-quality, but I don't think there are a lot of excuses. There's no excuse for getting away from the run except in the last part of the 4th quarter in this game, and it's by no means the only time or even the most striking example of the team giving up on the run game for no real coherent reasoning. ****, I don't care if you're getting 1-2 yards a carry, in a lot of these circumstances you still don't stop running the ball like they have. They've also done an atrocious job matching the scheme to the players they have, it doesn't matter if the line can block it or not, or if the back does it well.
Talent? These guys are superior athletes and able to play in the NFL of all places. Most of us are aware of what it takes to play in the NFL. Sherman calls a play and based on preparation, coaching, film and schemes are implemented by our players. Seems to me it is the coaching that is directly responsible for making sure execution takes place. Based on what I've seen that just does not happen consistently enough to win. After taking a closer look at our assistant coaches I am not surprised. I really don't think it would matter who you inserted into our offensive line. No coaching experience is No coaching experience.
Was there and paid particular attention to the wr since I couldn't bare to watch the oline and our wr were not getting Amy separation at all. Maybe top 5 worse performances I've seen in my 15 years as a fan. Someone didn't tell them the playoffs were at stake.

Oh my gosh, a drop of honesty from the rah-rah section! It was amazing how Matt Moore hits a deep receiver in stride in his 2nd NFL pass of the year, yet Tannehill hasn't hit one WR like that ever. It was also enjoyable to watch Tannehill run those read option plays today with the DE crashing down on Thomas; Tannehill must have had, what, 100 rushing yards? 150? Oh, that's right, he continually gave the ball to Thomas anyway and wasted those downs with ridiculously bad reads. Let's not even talk about the 4 sacks OVER the 4.0 second mark, the 15+ horrible throws, or his refusal to pick up easy 1st downs with his legs...that would be overkill! The difference between today and every other Sunday was that the field was too slick for his receivers to turn his poorly placed passes into big gains. Without someone else around to make him look good, Tannehill's true colors really shine for everyone to see. Hey, at least Tannehill kept up his streak of under-throwing Wallace on an easy TD play.....he's now up to 7 in a row on that one.
This is what happens when you develop him under 2 QB coaches that have a combined total of 4 yrs playing time as college players and zero NFL experience before joining the dolphins
Wait...What? Counting Philbin and Sherman, they've got 3 guys with plenty of offensive line coaching experience. Bottom line is that you've got 1 very good offensive lineman surrounded by mediocrity or worse. Attempting to practically pin it all on coaching is really misguided, IMO. Not that the coaching staff deserves a free ride at all, but as Gary Stevens once said, "you can't make chicken salad out of chicken s**t".
Our OL was horrable all round. Pouncy got pushed back, John Jerry whiffed several times, Thomas sat on his a$$ most of the game, and Mckinney looked completely lost.
Tannehill could not make the throw that Moore made, thats 100% fact, nor would he attempt that throw. That throw requires anticipation and precision and RT17 lacks that in every single way when it comes to that TYPE of pass. RT17 might be a very very good 70-75% QB, he will never be a franchise QB that can throw in 3 phases of the game.
I completely agree and it's not a coincidence that Moore basically matched Tannehill's entire day on one series. With Moore (or any capable) as the starter, Wallace is suddenly a legit threat, Miller's not keyed every time he steps on the field, and our bottom-ranking offense could probably put up 30+ every game.
Ugh, give me a ****ing break. If Ryan Tannehill were throwing deep to someone whom had any inclination towards making an effort to get a pass that didn't drop down over his shoulder in dead stride, his deep ball wouldn't come up, period. Meanwhile, for like the what, third or fourth time this season Wallace was overthrown, which I distinctly remember hearing was nearly impossible.
