You know the answer Finkle. Hopefully it is the same reason why Pedoria didn't go to free agency and get 20M per year.

For the money no he isn't nuts, if he signs with the Seattle though, no offense to Seattle but it would be the biggest mistake of his life.....While he would have no help in that lineup, in a monstrous yard, he would simply be pitched around. Cano is so good that he will get his numbers alla like he did on the Yanks this past year..Not too mention if this was Det. where the only real competition is themselves I would get it, but Seattle has to contend with Oakland, Texas, and LAA whom while they had a "bad" year is still a very good team.....Not to mention he will be 3000+ miles from the DR. He would be looked at as strictly a money whore and while for others that my be fine and I would have no problem with it, we are talking about when things are said and done here, possibly one of the best 2nd basement to ever play. His legacy would be much greater in NY. Also as Nappy said endorsements....

Just my opinion I dont think Latin ballplayers concern themselves much with legacy or traditions of Amercian baseball....money most often rules their world...

On a positive note Cano could very well slip into anonymity there, while make 25 over the next 9 years, where every bat and every jog out of the batter's box WOULDN'T be scrutinized in Seattle.....maybe that is appealing to him to be just left alone.

The bid is now at 9 years for 225M CONFIRMED by multiple sources as early as 8pm last night, and he was in Seattle last night, my only question is.......

    Why hasn't he signed yet?

Jay-Z wow.....dumbass....go make a rap song about it....if I am the Mariners I take the 9 years off the table and go back to 8, or even better go to the Yankees offer...

Boras must be laughing his *** off, just he didnt even have to work and got Ellsbury 152M......

But what if getting the maximum dollar amount is the most important thing to him? People aren't calling Ellsbury nuts for taking the most money offered to him this offseason.

He isn't nuts, have at it with the cash and enjoy it IMO, but even with the Yanks proposal he is still making the max salary in that position in terms of avg, and overall. I am talking more on the scope of winning and legacy.....something that I would like to think athletes are concerned about as well.....Why did DP take an undervalue contract to stay in Boston?

Hey I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm one to believe that if you're happy in a town and want to stay there, you do it even if it means leaving money on the table. Is 170ish million that much different from 225 million? Especially when you factor in your legacy, comfort level etc. Either way you, your family, your family's family and your family's family's family is set for life.

Pedroia took an undervalue contract because he loves playing in Boston and money has never been the most important thing to him. When he was in college he gave up his full ride schoolarship just so Arizona State would be able to bring in better players. He's completely self-less and you have to respect him for that 100%.

But on the flip side if someone wants to go to the highest bidder no matter where, that's that person's choice. You might not agree with it but it's on them.

Wow incredible. I'm shocked. Good for Seattle for finally getting an impact player and this certainly hurts the Yankees in the short term losing their best offensive player.

It is win win for NY if they signed him or didnt.....

Short term obviously it hurts, long term is a such a good thing for them.....I will gladly take the 25M in financial flexibility...With that money it wont be hard to ultimately find a few players to exceed his production....

10 years is so ridiculous it isn't even funny....kudos to Jay-Z, Boras ain't laughing anymore I'll tell ya....

Yeah I don't think that deal is very good for Seattle, 10 years is insane for someone 31 years old. What the hell is Trout going to get? 15?

Obviously it hurts the Yankees in the short term, I wonder if they're going to go after Choo now? Maybe sign Choo, trade Gardner for Brandon Phillips? Sign Infante to play 2nd? Sign a crap load of SPers?

Cano is nuts for going to Seattle... The money.....hey if they are offering, they're crazy. 10 years is ludicrous. I'm glad the yanks didn't go there.

Curtis Granderson is headed to the Mets on a 4 year deal. Should be fun to compare his #s with Ellsbury's in the future. (I think Ellsbury is the better player but depending on the contract amount, Granderson might be a better value).

EDIT: Granderson gets 4/60. That contract isn't bad by any means.

I agree. I wouldn't call him nuts by any means. If we're going to call Cano nuts why shouldn't we call Ellsbury nuts for taking his highest deal available?

Yankees offered Cano what 7/175 while Seattle offered him 10/240. That's 3 extra years and 65 million more.

Would I have left that money on the table to stay with NY? I'd like to say yes I would have stayed in the place I (seemingly) like while leaving money on the table but again it's easier for me to say that without the pen being in my hand.

Not saying anyone on this board is acting/saying this but it is pretty funny to hear Yankee fans complain about Cano leaving them for the highest bidder, saying he's a traitor and should have stayed in NY etc.

It's not just the more money. It's the more years. I mean, the guy is going to be making the jack into his 40s. He can't let that deal pass.

You're assuming Walker will dominate. Read a lot of reports he went backwards this year in terms of stuff.

That's not to start up a debate on whether those reports are right/wrong. It's more about getting Price the hell out of the AL East, hopefully for good.

The Grandy Man! Great move by the Mets. We needed someone desperately to feel good about, and Granderson is a solid baseball player who is extremely high character and will be great for the clubhouse.

I'm not complaining.. He did what is best for him. For me building a legacy as a Yankee or red Sox would be more important than money I'll never spend in my lifetime. I'm happy for Robbie. love the guy, but I respectfully disagree that this was the best decision for his career. And aqua, I love the pacific nw. But, in terms of being a superstar you can't beat new York.

I don't disagree with any of this. That's a big question I have is whether this was pushed by his agents trying to make their 1st mark on the sport instead of what's in the best interest of their client. This is sort of like the Red Sox and Carl Crawford, it wasn't a good match between the town and the player yet the money was just too big to pass up it ended up being a big mistake by both parties.
