You think the steelers are playing better than us?

Do you think the steelers have more talent than us?

they are 5-3 over their last 8 so they're definitely playing better than the poor start to the season. I like our chances but it's not a game I'd put money on, especially not in their backyard. Hopefully today's team shows up.

Besides Qb and some linebackers I'd like to do a head to head .

I don't think they can put up 20 points on us..

And they don't have James Harrison anymore...lol

As I said last week in my "Anatomy of a Mediocre Team" thread - This team will give you hope and then crush it. As they've been doing for the past 5 years. This team is always in and out of the playoff race but seems to crumble when the chips are really down. I'm thrilled Miami beat the Jets. That will always bring me joy. But I'm not going to allow myself to buy into this playoff hype. If they make it, great. But I'll keep expecting the worst. I guess that makes me a pessimist, but it's easier on my heart.

Confidence wise, this was everything you could have hoped for with the Jets. If we beat the Steelers, I think we have a shot at 10-6, just from the amount of confidence we have generated.

I mean, really....this team KNOWS they can play anyone on any given day, but they havent learned they can win. They out played Carolina, New England in NE (****in refs cost us that game...cant wait for the big pay back), that Tampa game was just blech (want to forget all about that one)...should have beaten the Ravens...momentum and confidence is so key in these late December season games.

Just have to get on a roll.

Heres where NFL stars are born, and I believe Ryan Tannehill is getting ready to explode. Something just seems different the last few weeks, almost like Armando had said, he seems like hes getting out of the student mode, be safe, and into the Hell Yeh Mutha Fugga Im gonna rip that defense a new one mode. It really seems like hes beginning to feel himself in the pocket, hes up on his toes, gotta bounce now. He torched the Blitzs by the Jets, and thats not easy to do. They aim to create confusion....

Stealers game boils down to whether or not our Cb's can handle their Wr's and if our front 7 owns the LoS

Suspect our offense moves the ball on them, think their D is vet enough to challenge THill down in the red zone

Steelers o-line is even more beat up then it has been most of the year, but Ben is not a sitting duck back there.

We've had trouble with the bigger QBs who scramble. We couldn't put Luck on the ground to save our lives. Ben is a bigger version of that. We'll get pressure, but it will be a challenge to actually put the guy on the ground and avoid the big play.

Yes the Steelers are playing better than we are. They've won 5 of their last 8 games since the bye week and they will be at home.

Do you expect the result of the objective analyses run by sports books to end up favoring us, or Pittsburgh?

    I felt like:

    1) The Panthers showed up flat on the road
    2) The Dolphins coaches made mistakes and are likely to continue making mistakes
    3) The Dolphins players made mistakes and are likely to continue making mistakes
    4) We were outplayed and we lost the game

Were there encouraging signs? Sure. I liked the "let it rip" look that Tannehill offered in the game. But that turtle head seemed to pop back into its shell against the Jets this week.

To me, and I harp on this, our ST unit is just a disaster, Rizzi has to nail some things down or it will cost us a key win down the stretch

Strugis is waaaay to inconsistent and our kickoff coverage was consistently allowing even the Jest to get out to the 30 yd line, that will not get it done.

I believe we take the Stealers, imo the matchups favor us, Ike Taylor trying to go man to man with Wallace? Yes please

Real issue is the Stealers are at home and are a Vet team that knows how to make a playoff run, we are so sloppy there is an excellent chance we out play them and lose the game

To the short playoff run person, Right now I would love to play the Colts in the first round or the Bengals. To me if we get the 6th seed and get to play either of them I think we could win it. But also getting to the playoffs and getting Tannehill playoff game experience, letting him feel the intensity of the playoffs will be avery good thing in his second year if possible. Bengals and Colts are scarying nobody. I honestly think we could go into either of their houses at the end on the year and beat them. Then a dance with the Broncos, what a great thing to put a young QB through. Let him play Peyton in their house, too see that preparation and intensity would just be awesome for Ryan's career. Bet steel is made in the hottest fire. Let him get that experience and the taste on the tongue. Man we need to win these next 4 games. Go in hot would be awesome.

I think thats how we game plan against the Steelers this week. The same as Panthers. The way we can beat them is over the top. Hopefully more coaching this week. Ryan just seemed like he didn't trust his stuff early in the Jets game. Didn't trust what his eyes were showing him. Was weird too watch. Almost like too much time watching Rex confuse Qbs with looks and didn't take the shots when they were actually there. Steelers I like over the top again is what is going to hurt them. Wallace is itching for this game and will be asking all week for the ball. But Feeding Hartline could be the key as well as Clay versus their LBs, that is not a fast bunch. If he gets some one on one with Troy, a double move as Troy is being even more risky than ever.

Miller is frustrating. He can just as easily run for negative yardage and then he can get good yardage when he's on the perimeter. I keep expecting him to break a long run, just hasn't happened. I do like him being used out of the backfield on passing plays on screens etc. That another good use to get him in space.

I agree with the positive signs. I have held all along that RT would take about 4 or 5 years to develop. I just wanted to see progress. Before the season I hoped that progress would manifest itself in about an 88 to 90 QBR with +20 TDs and 65% completion %. Over the last five games, RT's rating is just over 88 and he's completing 65.7% of his passes. He's also on pace for +20 TDs. I've been disappointed with his escapability/play extension this season, but that's improving as well. IMO that's a big reason why our sacks allowed per game is down from earlier in the season. The Jets may be a dumpster fire on offense, but their D was no joke. Playing well against that D shouldn't just be shrugged off.

The other big positive is that defense seems to be gelling. The pass rush and the secondary are affecting opponents more each week. Over those same last weeks our points allowed has dropped to about the 20 range which where I hoped they would be all season. I expected our offense to still struggle this year, but I hoped they'd be above 20 so having the D keep opponents to below 20 was key. Carolina was an explosive offense with multiple 30 point games this season. SD put up 40 on the vaunted KC defense the week after they played us. And against the Jets that D dominated as they should against a poor offense. As I see it this is several games in a row that our D has played well. People can always claim that our opponents just had bad games and pretend that our D had no effect, but when that happens over multiple games I find it a disingenuous argument.

There are still negatives, of course, the run O (especially in short yardage) and the run D are still wanting, but you don't ignore the positives just b/c there are some negatives. IMO this team is clearly progressing, clearly improving. Will it be enough to earn a playoff spot? Who knows? But that doesn't negate the fact that it is improving.

We pressure the Qb, which makes our secondary more effective.

That correlation is working beautifully right now...I mean when you have Nolan Carroll and Jimmy Wilson playing at a high level, something is going right up front.

Still want to see Patterson come back..

To me the biggest thing I've seen and felt over the last three weeks is just a sense that the other offense was overmatched..I like that feeling.

For the offense, to see any improvements out of Ryan when it comes to anticipating where his pocket escape routes are is exciting to me..he rushed three times yesterday for good yardage..I'm not sure where the coaches are in terms of philosophy, but I would think showing your Qb how his legs can give a defense one more thing to think about and how that can help him when he does decide to stay in the pocket would be one of the first things you would instill with an athletic Qb..like I've been saying, I've struggled to understand why they wouldn't, but can understand if it's about teaching a Qb how to be a pocket one first and foremost while sacrificing in the interim..anyhow, It seems like there has been a conscious effort on his part to not forget about tucking and running, I think it's very important in this game, ( think Steve young) and would encourage him to keep it in the forefront of his mind..

Patterson... lol... he still leads the team in INTs. Grimes just tied him at 4 yesterday with that EZ INT. Carroll has been in and out with injuries as well. Carroll going out for a play yesterday is why Davis was in the game and the stej went right after him and Davis almost gave up a TD. Luckily he made a diving tackle at the receiver and the guy went down.

After Patterson and Grimes, it's Carroll with 10 PDs and 2 INTs. Wheeler has 7 PDs. Wilson with 2 INTs. Ellerbe with 2 INTs.

The defense has 65 PDs and 16 INTs total on the season so far.

Agree on the Offense and Tannehill's confidence. Having the OLine protecting better has really helped.

Just objectively, it's a 4 game season with our fate in our own hands

As it stands atm, 3 gms vs sub .500 teams, 5-7 Pitt, 4-8 Buffalo and 5-7 NYJ

    And the 9-3 patsies..at home

    That is how it sits

Especially the offensive line, it is still not a great unit, they have become more cohesive which makes up for their athletic limitations at least somewhat

And it has to be pointed out, "losing" Incognito and Martin was actually "winning".

A street UDFA playing as well as a 4 million dollar per yr Incognito speaks volumes of what sort of yr Richie was having, and McKinnie for Martin is a no brainer.

I'd bet if one just looked at the pressures allowed numbers, they are trending downwards and have for the last 3 games...people overlook that the Jest have one heck of a run D and we got them for over 100 total yds rushing.

No one said it was a perfect game or that there were no flaws and no one thinks that. So there's really no need for anyone to come into a celebratory thread and point these (obvious) things out.

Ever see the post game locker room footage where the HC is praising the team, giving out game balls, etc? That's what Deej was kinda doing. What kind of person would interrupt the coach to point out all the things that went wrong in the game and how the win doesn't mean squat, talk to him next week?

If we were on the receiving end of a beat down like the one we just put on the Jets and someone came around mentioning all of the good things that happened in the game they would get flamed and they would deserve it.

Their whole secondary is suspect. They have no one who can run with Wallace, Ike Taylor is their only legit man coverage guy so they'll have to play a lot of zone and they like to have Polamalu in the box which means a lot of Cover 3. That was OK back when they had a ferocious pass rush and Polamalu was in his prime but those days are long gone.

Look for another 300+ yard game from Tannehill and if the run game is clicking even a little bit then we're in for a good day.

Personally, I don't see the offense gelling. I saw us have the same inconsistency yesterday as we've had all year. The difference was a great defensive performance against a terrible offense. It allowed us to get a grip on offense and pressured their defense to be perfect...sound familiar?

We still have bonehead play calls, poor execution, and missed opportunities/left points on the field.

The Dolphins are what they are...queue Dennis Green.

Barring a Stratore type intervention I fully expect to win this game

W/o a running game, Ben R is a very avg Qb add in our strength DL vs their weakness OL, and I can see us winning this one rather handily actually

The Steelers pass rush has been very strong lately, Worilds is really playing well. If our pass pro holds up like has the last 2 weeks against some very good defenses I think we win by 10. I really have a good feeling about Wallace this weekend too

    W is a W, I'll take one either way.

Just in my gut, think the Stealers lack explosiveness on offense and their one guy, Sanders, can be neutralized by Grimes.

That is why I'm decently confident we win this one, then again, did not think we'd lose to the Bucs

Steelers fans are disgruntled with Lamar Woodley, they think he's fat and slow.

They think Troy P is washed up.

They really liked the valasco kid that took over for Pouncey.

They hate mike Adams who got run at tackle last game, then got hurt.

They are adamant that sanders has bad hands.

They think Brett kiesel should retire.

    Their talking draft a lot..

    They love their Qb..
