they are only "overpaid" if they perform like ****, like Wallace has. Guys don;t care how much others make, as long as it's not at a competing position and the team loses.

There was actually an article about it..(looking for it) how Ireland's personal relationship with Sparano went in the toilet due to Ireland getting on a plane to recruit Harbaugh.

That is what an honorable person does, and then if Ross cans him at least he has his integrity left, and would get hired someplace else. Now he has no honor and I doubt gets anywhere close to a GM's job ever again. Maybe a scouting coordinator but that's about it.

And since your owner is entrusting you with this information and task, you might also want to advise him that he needs to fire the current coach first, even if he doesn't have the enw guy secured.

And you might also want to let him know that the media will find out about this and it will be embaressing the way you want to go about it.

Ireland wasn't powerless at the time. he could have advised Ross to NOT do what he did without firing Sparano first. He created a lame duck and threw away a season. (Ross)

It has nothing whatsoever to do with honor in even the most bizarre and strict cultural context. Resigning on the behalf of Sparano would have nothing to do with honor. There's absolutely no obligation, or reason to suggest there is any sort of obligation. Hell, it's not even dishonorable if when asked by Ross that Ireland indicated that he believed Sparano should be fired.

Unless Ireland actively and systemically undermined Sparano, or advocated for interviews to begin before Sparano was fired(which you've got no idea if it is true or not), what you're saying is bull****, to put it lightly.

You're right. I don't know. But my suspicion is that a GM that is operating on shaky ground wouldn't rock the boat too much.

Why would he be obligated to do that? If Ross asks Ireland his opinion on whether or not the coach should be fired, it's his job to give what he believes is the most accurate answer.

and rightfully so. he didn't hire Sparano, and sparano was clearly the worst HC in the NFL, and IMO, the race wasn't that close.

Yes, and No. This is why I have been saying the Dolphins stand to lose most of their free agents this offseason because of the atrocious contracts.

Clemons,Starks,Soliai,Grimes perhaps others, are all going to be miffed by the money shelled out to Wallace,Ellerbe,Wheeler and Jones. All of them grossly overpaid.

It does matter what other players are getting and it is public knowledge.

Why do you think most corporations have policies forbidding employees from sharing their compensation, and it sure isn't published.

This all just another example of really bad management.

If Philbin gets fired and Ireland stays, Ross and Ireland need to be run out of town on a rail.

If Ross blows this one, the value of his team will plummet to the NFL cellar.

agree. But we all know the correct answer was to say "Hey..you gotta fire this guy first if we are gonna offer his job to somebody else."

Honorable person would tell his boss, if you don't fire the existing coach before wooing a new one, you are going to look downright foolish, you will be the laughing stock of the whole country, and you're going to hurt any chances of any other high profile coach coming here.

Ross is a smart guy. You put the argument in business terms, he'll get it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ireland didn't even put up a fight. As soon as Ross mentioned the idea, Ireland was probably making dinner plans in SF. Of course I'm guessing here.

And there were absolutely reports that Ireland successfully extricated himself from the bad that was Miami Dolphins football, effectively blaming it on Parcells and Sparano.

Sparano sucked. He needed to be fired. Why the hell shouldn't Ireland want him gone?

    This is insane.

He didn't dishonor Sparano. He didn't lie or cheat or steal from him.

Sparano sucked at his job and they looked for a possible replacement.

If you think ireland sucks at evaluation or drafting or deals, fine. There's no need to invent **** to hate him over.

This isn't about Sparano. This is about the Dolphins.

The ridicule that we received when our owner and GM flew to woo another coach, while we still had a coach, and then getting rejected by the Prom Queen, and crawling back to the ugly duckling? That's what this is about. We've been a laughing stock for years now. And now the Martin story is hitting front pages.

Ireland's job was to stop Ross from taking that flight without firing Sparano, no matter what it took. Fire sparano, get on the plane. Hire an interim coach if you can't find one. You just poisoned the pot for any potential big name hires which we all know Ross likes. You have a Hall of Fame coach ridiculing the move. Think big name coaches don't talk to each other?
