I take it you pre ordered through Origin? I did. Wondering when I will get my code. Also, I've never bought a digital game before through Origin. BF4 my first. Origin is installed on my SATA drive, along with BF3, but I want to make sure BF4 is installed onto my C:\ SSD. After it downloads and decrypts, I assume I will be given a prompt to change the root directory and drive as per a disc install right?
Found some awesome content on reddit. Someone has a leaked copy or something. All map previews; http://www.reddit.com/r/battlefield_4/comments/1p6wdy/bf4_multiplayer_maps_previews/ Test Range sneak peak; http://www.reddit.com/r/battlefield_4/comments/1p6hji/battlefield_4_test_range_sneak_peek/ Here is the video for it - nice building destruction shown as well. It also goes through some unlocks, SP campaign, etc. I am glad they have a test range. Since BF2 I haven't learned how to fly. This may be my chance.
Interesting bit you posted about resolution. I run win7 on 1920 X 1200 with 7.8GB DDR3 and AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz x8. Oh, and the Asus GeForce GTX 660Ti that you talked me in to Couldn't even enjoy beta on medium settings, lagging all over the place. Will upgrade to 8.1, found a buddy who will lend me his disc, and prolly snag 16gb ram on cyber monday, but other than that? What in the hell can i possible do to improve gameplay? At this point i'm honestly hesitant to even buy the game until i finish upgrading.
Wait for benchmarks after launch. The game will be more stable. Don't worry about the beta. Some people had near identical systems with GTX 770 or better and one person would be fine, the other couldn't crack 30 fps on medium. It is weird, but encouraging that a lot of people with high end systems are having problems suggesting it isn't the system that is incapable of running the game, more so the optimization.
That's what I'm hoping for. Still, gonna upgrade the ram and OS that way I will know that I did everything in my power to make it work lol plus it's not like going forward are going to need less anyway. I can't imagine what will be needed to run GTA 5 lol
They're now saying "at least 24 hours before release". Translation: "Even we don't know when the hell this is going up."
Looks like preloads are occurring by invitation. I received an email saying I can preload now, but it referenced my order number. Looks like people who preordered sooner get to preload sooner.
I got mine as well. So did my brother who bought just a few weeks ago, where I did probably a month or so. Either way, looks like you and I are good.
I think we are. Looks like they're prepared, too; I was getting a solid 6 MB/s download rate the entire way. Still waiting for the Assassin's Creed 4 preload...
Preloaded and it automatically installed the game on my secondary SATA drive. SMH. At least steam asks you where you want the damn games.
Thanks man. Found that too late after doing some reading. I should have read up on it before. Now I am reading how to transfer games to another drive and have Origin recognize them.
A few quick notes; - Much better optimization in the retail release. - Game is stunningly beautiful - Campaign (first one I'm doing because of MP unlocks) is engaging and well done so far - Map designs are not the largest (on average), but very complex offer much diversity and minimum of 5 flags. Haven't had a chance to play them all though. - Operation Locker is intense and well done IMO. Bottlenecks to offer that Metro gameplay, but enough side passages that can circumvent them. This map is really immerses you and rewards good team play. One section of the map makes me feel like I am those doomed soldiers who try to infiltrate Alcatraz in the movie The Rock and are gunned down from above in an ambush. I look forward to putting more time into the game.
Yeah mp443 REX and M249 for sure. I unlocked the mp443 REX after the first scenario, so I think they did that just to force people into the campaign to give it a try. The M249 I haven't unlocked yet, but I know for sure it is a campaign unlock for MP. There may be others too.
Game would be the best FPS I ever played if the servers didn't lag. All of them seemed to last night. Unfortunate.
So I made the plunge and got BF4. It was really weird to me the first few games but now I already like it more than COD. Haven't went crazy and played the games with vehicles yet, been getting accustomed to the game in TDM but I like it. Anyone on xbox who wants to form a squad (don't really know how that works lol) let me know. Any tips on how to level up faster, seems like it takes forever would be appreciated. Which guns do you guys like the best?
Use the XP boosts you get from Battlepacks, and do things like dispense ammo/medic crates to earn supplemental XP. Don't just rely on gunfights. As for the guns, so far the consensus best gun is the M416. It doesn't take too long to unlock and it's good at everything. Ridiculously fast reload time too.
Alright thanks, yeah I used the M416 for a round and didn't like the sights on it so I switched. Guess I'm gonna use it until I unlock a red dot.
10 kills unlocks the RDS. Though I didn't have a problem with the iron sights on the M416 at all. The ACE 23, which is unlocked a little bit after the M416, might be an even better gun. I'm still experimenting with it. The AEK-971 also has the same stats as the M416 but with a faster rate of fire, at the cost of a higher reload time.
Here is all the raw data you need. Awesome website where you can check stats with specific attachments too. Also has other games. http://symthic.com/ The rest is a matter of feel. Used the heavy barrel exclusively in BF3, had to take it off the AK-12 because of the recoil height. Still unlocking the 416. Close, 2k points with assault rifles left.
I generally go by feel, since the guns I'm good with aren't statistically the best. For example, in BF3, my best gun was the M5K. The M416 is pretty monstrous and I'm ready to say that the ACE 23 kills even faster.
The M5K was (BF3 in past tense already) a great gun, but it had its limitations. Every gun has its applications. If you play the smaller game types, TDM, Squad Rush, etc. the M5K is great. If you play large conquest, you have to question the abilities of the PDWs and some of the carbines, like the ridiculously fast MTAR. Range becomes an issue on the large conquest game types. Same applies to BF4. If you play Domination and TDMs, certain guns will be much better than others, and vice versa for Conquest. I may have to hit up the Domination and TDM servers to rank up and speed up my unlocks.
I'm hearing good things about the ACE 23 but it's not unlocked right after the M416, it is the last AR that you can get so it's gonna take a while.
I just found out about resolution scaling. I get like 60-70 fps with 100% on ultra 1080p. Going to try and bump up the scaling to 140% or something and see if it is worth the drop in fps.
Resolution scaling is basically SSAA. If you turn down your anti-aliasing and turn up scaling, you'll get really good AA at a big performance cost. Whatever scaling percentage you use, disable AA first. Even FXAA.
Which is better. Standard scale with AA and FXAA, or higher scale with those disabled? Or do they offset one another. I put the game to 200% scaling and it was so crisp and beautiful (AA and FXAA full) but only hade 28 fps lol. Damn.
Supersampling anti-aliasing is the original AA method. Each frame is rendered at higher resolution than what you're playing at--dictated by whatever percentage you set the slider to--and then downscaled to fit your resolution. It will look best, but has a big performance hit since you're rendering at a higher resolution. Multisample anti-aliasing basically shades the aliased edges using color data from nearby pixels to make it look smoother. It's a form of supersampling that doesn't hurt performance as much, but also doesn't look as good as SSAA. Still looks better than FXAA, though. Speaking of... FXAA (named "post processing" or something similar in BF4's settings) is fast approximate anti-aliasing. It's basically a full screen filter that smooths the edges of all pixels. DICE's implementation results in a slightly blurry look, so textures won't look as crisp, but foliage will look much better than it does under MSAA alone. Basically, if you resolution scale + run MSAA + run FXAA, you're doing a lot of extra work that overlaps and gives no benefits. You either want to use resolution scaling alone, MSAA alone, or MSAA + FXAA. Scaling + MSAA is redundant and will cause your computer to work harder for no benefit, and scaling + FXAA is also redundant, but with much less of a performance hit relative to scaling + MSAA. My recommendation: try scaling by itself. If you think the performance hit is unacceptable, then set scaling back to 100% and try MSAA. Once you get performance where you want it, tinker with FXAA to see if you can live with the slight blurriness.
I think Dice ruined hardcore mode. I played it last night and it is just a bunch of coward snipers hiding in a bush. See, that isn't a problem, there is nothing really wrong with that, although it is frowned upon by the "vets" per se. The problem is once you spot them, they aren't highlighted on the screen for friendlies to see. I don't mind no 3d spotting, but normal spotting should not have been removed from HC. And what is the point of spotting if it doesn't come up on the screen, and there is NO minimap? For friendlies to see, they have to pull up the full map by pressing M. Minimap should be included to see where friendlies are. HC has so many TKs because the friendly icon above the player only shows up after a second or so. With the multitudes of camos available, how do you distinguish friend or foe? This hesitation got me killed several times. Also, if you are going to remove the minimap, at least put a damned compass. Playing HC is like swimming against a current, and too difficult to understand what is going on IMO. It is worse than arma ffs. Well, similar to arma, but arma is not an arena. And you can distinguish between friend or foe. I like the mag situation though, how if you have certain amount of full mags, and if you remove a partially filled mag, it wont fill up again next time you reload. I like the no hit markers. I love the damage, way more realistic. But, ultimately, i find it unplayable and I've always been a HC mode advocate and that was all I played on BF3 and BC2. Ruined.
I'm just glad the unlock system is saner this time. I'll take that. They've also made fixes to hardcore mode with the latest server patch.
Wow, I've already maxed out all the assault unlocks. Got the CZ 805 the other day. It shocked me when I realized it was unlocked and that was it for the assault weapons. Guess it's time to play support and unlock shotguns.
It's not under assault unlocks, I just read online that you have to do some crazy thing with different weapons like earn medals or ribbions to unlock it. Do have any idea how I do it?
Can you tell me how you spot someone for your teammates to see on regular. Also I don't see HC, how do you play that game type? Sorry noob over here lol
