As to the te coverage, let's face it...Graham, Fleener, Gonzo and even Case ( I think) aren't exactly chopped liver and not just our D has had trouble with them this year. Does it need to be adjusted? Yes, but even that won't mean a lot...
I think we are most vulnerable when we are forced to go to a man blocking scheme.. Which happened once we fell behind so bad and had to get big chunk yardage pass plays. I'd go to a faster hurry up and start utilizing Thigpen. I think we can still run the ball this way.. Just as Philadelphia does. But I think we need to be as aggressive as we can on offense.. Going into the year I was hoping Jenkins could possibly replace Misi after we let him walk at the end of the year, instead we'll be paying Misi over 4 mil next season to see the field less than half the time and have little to no impact on the game.
Danny Woodhead has been lighting it up recently. We do play SD. Sent from my Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk
Who said that about Clay last year? Big difference between Clay's value to the offense, even if Keller were healthy, and Misi to the defense. The 3rd LB, Misi, plays less snaps than the nickel back does. That indicates to me that the nickel back is more valued part of the defense than the 3rd LB and deserves to be paid more. With teams lining up 3-4 WRs who are all talented, we need a nickel who is nearly on a par coverage wise, with the starting corners. They have tried to use Misi in other ways. He was lining up in the A gap in the nickel package some the other night, and rushing, but he really isn't effective pass rushing from that spot. Line him in a wide 9 and let him rush, then maybe, but we got other guys who are better out there. Misi is a solid run defender against a base offense when the down and distance indicates run tendency. That kind of player really isn't hard to find though. Next season, what with him being extended, he creates somewhat of a road block for Jenkins being an every down type of LB with a skill set similar to Wheeler and Ellerbe, IMO.
