I was at the game last night and spent most of it chatting with a Saints fan who was complaining that we held them to less than 42 pts. From a lot of the Saints fans perspective, we had them play a very un-Saints like game in that most of the game they were running screens or not playing more of a vertical passing game. Jamar Taylor played like a rookie and got burned in coverage (go figure). We had no answer for Sproles last night on defense. He had a 100+ yards receiving out of the backfield before the half. The Saints fan was telling me that they would blow the game open after half time because that's what they do in the second half. The Dome was raucous last night, just incredibly loud. The defense allowing Sproles to open the game with that long catch and the easy opening TD, set the stage for a blow out. Watching the offense and defense over the course of the game, it seemed that they couldn't hear the play calls. Tannehill struggled to audible and change assignments. We also had issues getting guys lined up correctly at times. The entire team was struggling all night and Tannehill just seemed to try to do too much on his own and had too little help. Of course the nay sayers are going to start dogging the team and claiming the season is over. Forget that knee-jerk reaction garbage.
True, but It doesn't justify giving up on the kid as some are doing. He had a bad game, everyone did.
How many times did Tannehill have to tell Miller where to line up? Sometimes he looks clueless out there.
Great post. This is a very young team guys, and hopefully they take this as a learning experience. Another common characteristic of young team is if a few players are having an off game it becomes contagious. The heart of our defense and best player on the team was out last night in one of the most hostile environments in the NFL. I never posted before the game but I always thought there was a better shot of us getting blown out then is winning. Not because they are that much better than us, but because our guys just wouldn't be ready for that type of environment. There really is no way to prepare for it other than experience it, and now our guys have.
Losing by 3 scores is never pretty no matter how good the opponent. Have to beat the Ravens at home to be taken seriously as a threat to the Patriots. By the way, we better be ready for Primetime the next two times. Bengals at home, Chokeaneers on the "road" (there may be as many Phins fans as Bucs fans there). Bengals won't be easy, but we did beat them last year. They've improved, but they aren't the Saints. Regardless of their defense a big win against them on MNF would be a nice way to help forget last night's mess. Of course, we need some nice wins along the way, starting with Baltimore.
Not putting any words in anyone's mouth. Relaying the general consensus that the Saints are good. Its a given that we all want the Fins to be elite. What's the problem again?
No one is giving up on anyone. Just continuing in our efforts to evaluate everyone; Ryan Tannehill included.
Of course we all want to be elite. So do Browns fans along with every other teams' fans. But the fact of the matter is we are not, and everybody already knew that. Expecting to be with a 2nd year coach, 2nd year QB, and a bunch of new, young pieces is just delusional. You just rehashing the fact that we are not elite, despite nobody thinking we are elite, is really just pointless and makes you look desperate for something to complain about.
Thats what I said; except I said, "Not ready for primetime." And you took me to task. Things that make you go, "Hmmmmmmm".
Please. You've said much more than that both in this thread and other threads. Hint: Being a pessimist doesn't mean you're a realist.
Of course we all want to be elite. Are you putting words in peoples' mouths? We do have a young team...everyone knows that as well. One does not have to be desperate for something to complain about after last nights game. Its more like, "Where do I start?" It was a disaster in every facet. Offense, defense, playcalling, QB, WRs dropping passes, turnovers...We looked like the Sanchez/Smith led Jets last night. If my expectations are too high, then ok, possibly that's where you and I disagree.
Completely agree about the "pessimist not making a you a realist" part. That's axiomatic. Being honest makes you a realist, and if you avoid reality, by definition you are not a realist. Your analogy offers a false choice. You could be a pessimist and be a realist or not.
Saying we all want to be elite is putting words in people's mouths? wtf? And I agree. Which is why stating the obvious that we are not elite yet just makes you look like a troll trying to pour it on us and piss us off. Actually, that's what you are. See ya troll. Not even worth my time.
"...people who have low expectations for a satisfying future may be more likely to live longer, healthier lives than those who see brighter days ahead, according to new research published by the American Psychological Association" Here is to long life and good health. Thank you, Rick66!
I guess playing with them drive for drive the whole first half until that turnover right before halftime equals total dismantling? Without that turnover, we go into halftime down 14-13 at worse...17-14 at best. After that turnover, the team lost all and any momentum it had built in a very SOLID first half of football against a heavily favored, experienced, elite football team that has been together for years. Reminded me a bit of the Houston game last year. Playing well, until BAM...the t/o bug got the best of them. We got outcoached in the second half...as well as out turnover'd by those lame interceptions. They made better adjustments and took advantage MUCH better than we did. We had a couple good drives going just to have a receiver pop the ball up and get it picked off...you can get away with that against the Jags, but not the Saints. The true test of this team's durability and level of professionalism will be this weekend against the Ravens. NOTHING about this game, with maybe the exception of the offensive line play, causes me any long term concern for the season. I've seen Peyton Colts teams have the same type of showing, I've seen Cindy Brady's Patsies have the same type of performance...it's not indicative of long term. I work with 3 Saints fans who I consider to be good people and generally fair in their views of football and their team, and they ALL were telling me today that with the exception of a few mistakes (the turnovers obviously) they were VERY worried about the game. They further went on to say that our injuries were of far greater impact than theirs were...stating some of their backups were probably just as good or improvements over the starters. They all three, believe it or not, expected the Dolphins to win when they were driving late in the 2nd quarter before the turnover. They CAN play with the best of them...they just need to learn how to get over the mistakes and the coaches need to as well. All the pissamists come out of the woodwork when we lose...it's normal...they're trolls...they live in a cave hatching the next new dooming predictions for the season, even in the face of the team being 3-1 with a solid chance of going 4-1 into the bye week. F*** em all...FINS UP!
I often wonder if the people that start the gloom and doom threads after a game/season really believe what they're typing and are actually that pessimistic, or are just looking for the natural response to those threads-- someone saying that things aren't as bad as they seem and that "it will be alright"...
That and he's talking about the past. Last year the Ravens and Niners were in the Super Bowl...they're 2-2 right now, worse than our record...does it matter? Hell no it doesn't matter...neither does it matter they missed the playoffs twice. Get off it man really...
Wow...."F*** us" because we disagree with you? Stay classy, 68. Now then, "without the turnover, we'd be close". Yes, very true...But there WERE turnovers. Without "testicles", my uncle is my aunt. Things matter. If Saints fans were gracious in victory, good for them, but its irrelevant. But it doesnt make us any more or less credible as a team.
Could be both. In the early 2000's, we weren't there, and we weren't close. But we made the playoffs a bunch of years in a row. But we weren't even close to being a "serious" contender. In the subsequent years, our records sucked and we weren't close. My point is we have to continue to evaluate every part of this team...GM, HC, OC, DC, QB, and every player on the team. No one should be "safe".
Ya..F you...I'm tired of your endless babble and criticism. I'm a retired Sailor...I've never had time for *******s like you, and never will. It's not meant as an attack on you per se, it's meant as an "I could give a rat's a** about anything coming out your pie-hole." Take it as you will. And yes without the turnovers we'd be close, and there were turnovers, but you choose to ignore the play other than the poor ones...I don't. I see positives in this game, you don't, therefore, your input is useless...it can be found looking at the box score. EDIT: I'll take you calling out my "class" as a compliment...considering the source. And yes...things matter...we're 3-1...what did you have us going after 4 games? 'Nuff said...
Turnovers are correctable. But forget that for a minute....can we stop pretending you weren't happy about the outcome?
Silly *** statement. had we been drawing Jacksonville at home on Monday night ....... Wed have appeared ready.
You can pretend anything you want, but I was 100% with my whole heart and mind with the Fins. I always am. I have been for a long, long time. Funny the need to make me less than a "true" fan because I criticize legitimate shortcomings. Where am I wrong? The coaching was good? The QB play was good? defense? play calling?
Oh, so retired Seamen can tell anyone they disagree with to F...off? Oh okay. That's good to know. It's not that YOU dont have class, it's that the Navy doesn't. Gotcha.
No, no. I've never questioned anyone's fandom except for you and there are plenty of bitter and angry people on this board. I'm questioning your's because I've never once seen anything but negativity from you. We won 3 straight games and you were nowhere at the end. I find that bizarre.
And Manning has thrown 6 INTs in a game before. I agree about Flacco though, I'd prefer THill with the potential than Flacco right now, no contest. Someone noted that 2 of the picks last night were unlucky, but that one was Schaubesque!
I assume that if we made the playoffs you would be supportive of this particular staff top to bottom, including GM?
Its not that you question short comings. For example.. You could say.. Our playcalling needs to improve because of this.. Give an example.. Suggest a fix. What the drama queen crows does is this. The play calling is putrid. Tannehill sucks isnt the answer. Fire Ireland. Worst game I have ever seen.. (until our next loss)... We will only be good in 3 years.. We aren't ready for prime time.. (we have two more primitive games this season.. If we aren't ready we are fugged) You don't see anyone proclaiming us the best in the NFL.. Or that Tannehill is a first ballot HOF candidate... So why do the drama queens have to post the sky is falling every time we don't win? Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
No, it's that the Navy in recent years' past don't take your type of crybaby, the world's falling, this team is garbage type of sniveling...your version of "class" couldn't possibly apply. You'd never understand though, so I'll just leave it alone.
I am generally supportive of Ireland. IMO, he will be judged by Ryan Tannehill. And we know for RT to be successful the OL and RT are going to have to improve. If we make the playoffs, that will be a HUGE improvement for this franchise. I would assume if thats the case, the OC and DC are probably safe. I think an evaluation would be due (by the coordinators) to see if they think things are on course. The OLine needs to be upgraded, which is obvious. And we'll have some decisions to make on the Dline. I like the talent at DB (still needs to be developed)...we have some weapons at WR. So we'll see what happens.
