Tim Ryan did refer to Martin as limping around on Sunday. With all the other injury stuff, his obviously fell by the wayside.

Like the move from a few aspects:

can fill in this week with solai out.
Martin is on IR, so he has a real shot to be here all year.
Has the upside, especially with our Dline coach, to become prominent in our rotation next year with the status of 2/3 of that rotation in limboq.

am I the only one that finds how we bring guys in for workouts but don't sign them for four or five days interesting? I know that doesn't happen all the time, but we seem to do it a lot. I wonder if our "patience" costs us some signings during the season?

I doubt we do that with someone we really want though.

I think, as a fanbase, we tend to think of all players on an individual rank (Player X is #1, Player Y is #2, Player Z is #3), when teams may actually view players in clusters (Player X, Player Y & Player Z are in Group 1 so we'll grab either X, Y or Z), especially towards the bottom of the roster.

I hear you. In this case, I think they were doing due diligence with an idea that Soliai might not get better. When Martin went down they had the workouts already done.

The CB workouts yesterday were due diligence against Patterson, Taylor and/or Davis getting knicked further.

    AMERICA!
I feel like this is a new beginning for myself and I hope to take full advantage. I’m just grateful to be here,” Austin said. “I’m going to be a professional, give it everything I got and let my play do the talking. I plan to bring quickness, strength and make plays for this team. From what I’ve seen on film I think this suits my game a little better and I think it tailors to the quick stuff I was known for.”

He probably is a better 3 technque then anything else but I could see him as an adequate short term replacement for Soliai as a 1 technique or maybe they slide Starks or Odrick there and let Austin be a 3 technique.

I liked Austin coming out. His power and speed combo is elite for his position. If the light ever comes on we have a very good player. If not, its back to the drawing board.

Well, big picture here, Ireland has landed a #1 pick (Watkins) and a #2 pick since the season began.

TBH, he could be Albert Haynesworth, he has the same size/speed combo in a big man and the same work ethic issues. Would have loved to have been in the room when he met Kacy Rodgers for the first time and hear what went on.

Way I see it, he's an interior passrusher fillin to keep Odie and Starks from playing 70 plays or more per game

Quick search came up with the fmr Universal Draft gurus really liking Austin in that yr's draft.

Ck in particular, Conu a bit less so.

Starks looked like he played most of the 1 technique snaps in the base packages on defense against Atlanta. He and Odrick seem to trade off based on some sort of adjustment in nickel and other sub packages.

I hope our run of injury is done on defense.

Seriously, it feels like we lose two players every game on defense.

Whether Marvin Austin works out and realizes his potential or not, I've been saying since this past draft that the Dolphins defense was moving more towards a penetrating style of defensive tackle play rather than the hold your gap style of play we have seen from Dolphins defensive tackles for years now.

Kevin Coyle wants the flexibility to be able to run a variety of stunts with his front four and then blitz his linebackers in combination with those stunts.

Don't disagree, but Cincy did carry some big defensive linemen (big island guys if I remember right, much like Soliai). So while he probably prefers that penetrating style, there is a place for a run stuffer type.

In Cincy though, he was only responsible for the DBs.

That is true, and I am working on the assumption that he might try to imitate that defense. In all likelihood he is running a variation of that defense and putting his own signature on this one.
