Sucks that we have to start off on this note after a 1-0 start, but Armando mentions Starks, Wallace and now Soliai? How much of an issue are these things? I don't have the answers, but regarding Wallace, surely he can't expect to get a bunch of throws every game? Shouldn't Tanny throw to whichever WR is open? Wallace was doubled all game yesterday from what I saw. Is Sherman to blame for not including Wallace enough in his game plan? How about Tanny over-throwing Wallace... Which of these things are you fellas more worried about? http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolp...-for-the-afc-east-division-lead-and-coac.html
Just to add, surely we want to keep either Soliai or Starks next year. I can see maybe not both, but why push both of them away?
Rarely bother with the S Fl media coverage, the good ones have left, Barry Jackson does not do controversy stories, why mess with it.
The Soliai and Starks situations make no sense to me at all. Why insult 2 of the best players on the team?
Neither are being pushed away. The team just isn't giving them money. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
Didn't Barry Jackson break the Starks "finger" story yesterday? Regardless of that, Soliai and Starks both played better than Jared Odrick did. And Jared Odrick played pretty well.
Regardless of whether you read it or not, at this point we know that Wallace was unhappy after yesterday's game; Starks flipped off the bench; and it appears Soliai is not too happy either. This is the start of the season and if these things get out of hand, they could spread discontent in the lock room and that's that what we want considering we're trying to push for the playoffs...
See....why? This is where I cant stand some writers. We won our opening game...your city has something to feel good about, and its like they cant wait to crap all over it. For what reason?
Am I allowed to call Armando a dick on here? Unbelievable. Mountain out of mole hills, stirring up controversy. So many other things to have written about and he chooses this seems lame to me.
I'm shocked that a Philbin led team is acting this way after 1 week. Unprofessional behavior and very disconcerting. To publicly bash the team after a victory and 5 years of mediocrity is disappointing, and paints to a divided pro and anti Ireland locker room. Surprised they aren't playing for Philbin and keeping their mouth shut. Perhaps his grasp on the team isn't as rigid and solid as we thought?
Why bury your head in the sand? The last thing we want is for these issues to derail the season. 2/3 incidents were pretty public, so it's not like he's making this stuff up.
Sigh. The wallace thing is completely overblown. The middle finger was a joke. And I don't know what the Soliai thing is about other than his agent is trying to get him a better deal. None of this is troubling. All of it is silly manipulation tactics by Armando, like he does EVERY year.
I can only imagine that Mando is gonna Mando about the Soliai unhappiness. He looked great yesterday... Soliai not Mando. The apparent issue with Soliai is the contract negotiations. And there have been negotiations ongoing. Of course his agent takes to twitter after talks apparently broke down. Doesn't mean they won't be rekindled between now and next March. I think the Dolphins want Soliai with them or else they wouldn't be talking money. It's a negotiation though. You can't always get both sides to agree straight away. This is just sensationalism at its "best"... taking three separate things and assuming there's a problem in the locker room as a whole. Negative press pieces get more hits than positive ones. Most readers don't want to hear about the work Dolphins' players do in the community with charitable organizations.
Controversy is the PT Barnum approach to sports media, a bit like Miley Cyrus twerking coverage, but for mostly men. Other thing is, and it's a firm rule of mine, if I did not like/respect the writers' opinion prior to the season, why would I bother with them once the season begins. Only Dolphins media person I bother with is the excellent Barry Jackson, the rest of the lot are horse crap.
Winning cures all. Keep winning and I bet you won't hear another word about players being unhappy. Wallace will get his games. Just game one was not his. Browns took him away, it's a shame, but it left our other wrs open. I am sure he will be better in most other games. We have salary cap $ next year. I have a feeling the FO is just waiting to see who has a better year as to who to keep next year. They'd love to keep both, but not sure you can afford both.
If Bjax had, no one linked to it, would like to hear his take on it, no the usual clara bell the clown suspects.
Regardless of whether it's overblown, I just don't think you need your best WR publicly unhappy after the game (Brandon Marshall anyone?) or Starks flipping off the bench. It was a joke? Who laughed? Neither bode well for team chemistry. I expect them both to be better soldiers. I hope Philbin talks to them both and explains their roles on the team - particularly Wallace.
not really. unless you mean to think his middle name is Richard and you are just using the shortened version.
But...who knows how much of this is an issue? I dunno...just sick of feeling good about the team...and then more crap happens.
I have no doubt that Philbin will speak with each of them directly in his office. But this won't be reported. It'll just be discussed as "we've handled it internally."
Stop. Just stop. The finger was a joke. To his teammates and yes those things can reinforce chemistry because it was a goddamned joke. He said is was a joke. EVERYONE has flipped a bird that wasn't serious or angry. Wallace wanted to contribute more....oh noooooooooooooo what a dick. All you're doing is justifying Armando's tactics to drum up clicks.
It was a semi-honest question. I'm on another board (non-football) and it's 100% NSFW, or family for that matter. I did not know his middle name Richard.
You may not appreciate him bringing to light problems with the team, but I DEFINITELY do. These aren't mole hills, these are very real. And all three of them are being played out in public. Soliai's agent was airing it out on Twitter Saturday. He and Soliai are fed up and he basically declared that they're gone short of regime change. Starks has been pissed for quite awhile with his situation. He's said so publicly. Mike Wallace was brooding yesterday. This coach had better get it under control (as far as he has control). To this point, we've seen multiple cases of Joe Philbin excommunicating conflict rather than dealing with it head-on. We need to see these things addressed. The larger point, though, is that he's let the Starks situation fester. You can't let things fester. This is all very important and I think we as fans need to pay attention. The good news is they can resolve two of these issues easily. The Wallace situation, they should regardless of whether he's upset.
looks like the profanity filters let it through either way. However, the context in which it could be used, if it violates the TOS here on the site, may need to be moderated.
I completely agree. Dawn Aponte may be great with the cap, and I appreciate that it's difficult to be literally the only woman in a man's profession, but she has managed to turn off several players/agents, not to mention El Jeffe's notorious lack of tact. The Starks and Soliai situations can probably be resolved with money, and I would actually do long term deals with both. Why weaken the strength of your team? As for Wallace, just get him the ball early next week and go from there? If you're having trouble getting it going deep throw a bubble screen, give him the ball on an end around. There are simple fixes to this stuff. But most importantly Philbin needs to prove he can manage these guys and get them to put aside whatever personal issues they have and keep playing hard/well. It's about good communication, not leadership counsels. Hear out the concerns and address them. Even if ultimate solutions can't be worked out right now, each guy should know they are valued and that at least within the team they are wanted/appreciated, etc.
Me too. As far as Wallace is concerned, the coaching staff should move him around and maybe let Hartline go deep and let wallace have his role sometimes to target him. There should always be an option B.
Sooo..... When the team loses fans whine about the loss. When the team wins the fans whine anyway. Am I all caught up?
We convincingly win a game where almost no pundits picked us, and we do it in such way that any other recent year would never have seen us do that. Tannehill turns a corner, puts the game on his shoulders with no running game and no Wallace and no Keller and destroys Cleveland.....and people want to pretend a middle finger is a big deal? They want to question the coaching staff's ability to control the team? I seriously hate this fanbase sometimes.
Making an obscene gesture toward your sideline on national television is definitely a big deal. Calling out the coaching staff after a win is a big deal. I'm not sure its worthy of a grand indictment of the coaching staff, but these things shouldn't be taken lightly. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
