My picks are Pat Devlin, Dallas Thomas, Danny Watkins, Josh Kaddu, Jelani Jenkins, Jamar Taylor, and Will Davis. Who are your picks?
Pat Devlin, Mike Gillislee, Will Yeatman, Danny Watkins, Vaughn Martin, Will Davis, and Jamar Taylor.
Going to always bring up the same ole question. Why do any players need to be inactive? Why can't an entire roster be eligible? I really want to understand a logical reason while you can't play an entire roster. The guys are getting paid. Never have understood it.
I have wondered the same thing. It doesn't really make sense to me to have a 53 man roster and then not allow 7 of those players to play.
How I got to my 7 was. Devlin being the 3rd qb was obvious, we have 4 Wr's, 3 Rb's, and 3 Te's so it wouldn't be any of them. We have 9 onlineman and with 4 backups I figured 2 would be inactive. Garner's our main rotation guy so he's in and Yeatman's the only backup tackle (Garner can play it but is better inside) so I went with Thomas and Watkin. On Defense Taylor and Davis are injured so I assume they are out and all the rest of the secondary is in. Miami likes to rotate their d line and the only guy I thought they might make inactive is Martin but if he is going to be inactive they probably would have kept one of the younger tackles such as Francis or Randall. That leaves the final 2 spots for linebacker and I think Jenkins and Kaddu will be inactive because Trusnik and Freeny are better special teams players.
Injury and competitive advantages are the two most common reasons/justifications I have heard. Still doesn't make sense.
Delvin is pretty obvious. Watkins hasnt been with the squad long enough to get the game. The two rookie corners are hurt. After that, I think that it depends on the gameplan. Jenkins and Kaddu both play special teams. I think that at least one will be active. I wouldnt be suprised to see one of the TEs sitting out.
I'm wondering why, if Clutts can play, why not Watkins? I did include Watkins as one of my guesses for inactive, same as probably most of the rest of you, his being new, but then I am noticing no one guessing Clutts.
You bring up a great point. I actually didn't even think about Klutts when picking the inactives. I agree Watkins will sit but probably more because of Garner and Jerry rather than being new. I think Klutts plays just because he's our only fullback although I guess Clay could play there if needed.
Is it about learning the offense? Wouldn't that be as hard or harder for Clutts than Watkins? There are many more places for Clutts to potentially line up and roles to fill than there is for Watkins.
Even if Clay plays FB, Clutts would be active for special teams if nothing else. That is my guess anyway.
I agree that if Clutts is active he will definitely be playing on special teams. I also think that Clay will line up in the backfield at for some snaps but I do expect to see Clutts back as a blocking fullback on goaline and goal to go 3 yards or less runs.
Granted he may have improved and it is just one opinion anyway, but in 2011, when he played for the Bears, PFF rated him by far the worst blocking FB in the league, 2nd worst receiving, and worst overall, in 312 snaps.
