I'm a big fan of Davone. Yeah, he isn't the greatest receiver but he is a guy who turned his life around and made it when the cards were stacked against him. I hope he kicks *** in Cleveland (just not week 1).
Yeast Artificial Chromosome (The obligatory... I'm not a geneticist, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.)
I think Bess got dropped because he was route limited. They wanted more routes from the slot. We've seen him do YAC.
I think, as has been mentioned all over, they want guys that can play any of the 3 WR positions, not just slot guys. True, he played the outside for us last year, but that was due to necessity, not preference... Still I wish him the best, except when he plays us, in Cleveland...He was a good Fin...
They talked it up, but at the end of the day they're still in the same situation. Bess wasn't statistically any worse as a wide out, he was just still running the same routes split out wide.
He was my favorite player in a Dolphins uniform since Dan Marino and thats saying something. He was a guy that got by on pure heart and working his butt off. I personally thought he was one of the better slot recievers in the game and we should have held on to him. He wasn't the fastest guy but he could catch the ball and always found ways to get open. I hope he does well in Cleveland and plays in the NFL for another six years. Seriously....He was one of my favorite players for us...ALL TIME. Bill Parcells never gave compliments and I know we have ill will towards the Tuna but in my opinion one of the greatest football minds of all time said that Davone Bess was one of the only real football players we had on this team. The guy would have done anything for us...He literally broke his back for his team. Much love to Davone.
I'm really going to miss Davone Bess. The guy has never been a superstar but since day 1 the guy was a solid C+ B- type of player. If I'm not mistaking he had the second best season for an undrafted rookie wide receiver (behind Wayne Chrebet). I remember his first game against the Jets in 2008 there was a catch he made where he fought with 100% effort to get a first down and I knew there that this guy would be a good player for us right there. I hated the trade the day it was made and I have a feeling I’ am going to always hate it. We traded a reliable slot receiver (I don’t care if he’s 5-9) a 4[SUP]th[/SUP] and a 7[SUP]th[/SUP] for Jelani Jenkins and Mike Gillisllee. I am optimistic that these 2 players can be good but right now I don’t like the trade. I wish Bess all the best, except for week 1.
Right, but he had the ability to get those first downs, but Mike Wallace as a deep threat changes so much of that, I think Bess would have still been an effective player for us in the slot...An even better one because of the attention Wallace will garner. Oh well...Lets hope Brandon Gibson can do it...I mean hopefully he makes us forget all about Bess. Either way Davone is a player I will continue to follow.
"At the age of 10, Bess witnessed the murder of his uncle at a birthday party." Davone always surprised me. I feel like I learn something new about him every time I read an article on him... I wish him the best, with the exception to Wk1
I absolutely love Bess. On and off the field. But even though I say I love him on the field, I've changed my opinion on him. I think he's a really good role player. I don't think he's a great always in the slot guy. I just think he's limited to much. But as a role player he is very good. Wish him a lot of luck and want him to succeed after week 1.
I think it was about the tell to the defense when Davone is in the game, as good as he is in his role, the defense I think understands this is a horizontal player..
