So where are the folks who thought he was a good kicker again?

He'll be on his couch watching a game on Thanksgiving and get a call from a team who's kicker broke a nail.

    We're still here.

And getting cut by the Jets sort of validates our claim more than anything. Those idiots wouldn't know talent if it kicked them in the uprights. :wink2:

So going 1/1 in your only opportunity validates the notion that he isn't?

I think it's clear that he's being used by teams with incumbent kickers for whatever reason. He's not being given actual chances to win a competition.

He's still a good kicker and will kick somewhere in 2013.

Obviously he can't. Did he drop an ACME Wile E Coyote 10 ton weight on his toots this week?

flip side of that is they can't recognise 'decent' talent and only appreciate the afor mentioned doggy doo hence...they suck.

He was a good kicker. Mare was a good kicker too. Look at Vanderjagt for goodness sake. Some can do it long term and some can't.

edit. It was pretty nice that Sturgis hit a 40 yard blocked FG.

I like Carp but he just wasn't very good. Kicking is a stat you can't argue and he doesn't stack up favorably. I wish him well and maybe he could work out for GB, he has to be better than Crosby.

He is a middle of the road kicker. There are worse ones employed in the league, so he will probably get another shot. I am most surprised the Packers have not signed him because by all reports, Mason Crosby has really been struggling.

This surprises me, I know Carpenter has had his ups and downs the past couple of seasons but there is no way in hell you can convince me that he isn't one of the 32 best kickers in the NFL. Eventually he's going to get a job.

I don't get the Carp hate around here. I get it, he missed a few kicks that could have won us some games last year. It pisses/pissed me off too. But lets not forget how much we all loved all the kicks he made that helped us win games over the Sparano years. He's going to kick somewhere this year, and do a good job at it too. Im glad we replaced him with Sturgis, for cap reasons of course, but I just dont get the "hate"

I agree with everything you said here. It was probably time for a change but Carpenter was a very good kicker for us over the course of 5 years. I would def say over the course of those 5 years he was one of the more consistent kickers in the league.

I feel bad for Carp. Hope he finds a gig soon. It sucks he choked on a few kicks but it happens. He was a pretty good kicker most of the time. Not elite but very good. Sturgis has shown progress, let's hope he can be at least as good or better than Carp.

It looks pretty obvious to me even if their cap hits were the same, that Sturgis is simply a better kicker.

Damn. How do you ever favor Folk over Carp?

Rex is gone after this year.

Sturgis certainly appears to have the stronger leg. Hopefully he will be able to make the kicks when the game is on the line. Carpenter failed at that last year and that is the reason the Dolphins drafted Sturgis in the first place. Making FG's in the preseason is one thing, making them with a regular season game on the line is something else entirely.

Sturgis was effective in pressure situations at the University of Florida and hopefully he will be with the Dolphins.

    LOL at thread title.

  25. I don't understand why a below average kicker gets so much love from this fan base. He has not had a great moment for us in 3-4 years. He has definitely disappointed us on more than one occasion. He has missed kicks that good kickers do not miss. Before they moved the kickoff spot he rarely reach the endzone and I do not recall him ever kicking through the back. For what we got from him, we might as well of kept Feely.

Sturgis wasnt drafted to save money. He was drafted because Carpenter wasn't getting it done. Hopefully Sturgis will. It was time for a change. The fact that two other teams have tried him out and cut him in a two week period should tell everyone all they need to know. If he impressed either of them he would still be on one of those teams.

Sturgis also has a much shorter stroke. I usually like those kickers better who have that short punch like stroke such as Sturgis, than that longer sidewinder type of stroke like Carpenter. Less room for error IMO. Remember Fuad Reveiz? He had that short type of stroke that I like.

Because they are both just middling kickers. The guy coming in, Carp, has to show something noticeably better. If Rex is gone after this year, it won't be because the Jets kept Folk over Carp.

Still awaiting official list of Dolphins cuts. Since the Browns didn't keep a kicker, could Dan Carpenter face old team in opener?

That's okay. I don't understand why Tim Tebow gets so much love and attention from the media while being a below average QB in the NFL. He was the only player mentioned as being cut from an NFL on CBS national news and his being cut has been a top news item on ESPN all day,

Like Carpenter or not, he had a longer and more successful NFL career at his position than Tebow has and he doesn't get nearly the love or attention a failed third string QB does.

They're still probably set with him. He's injured.

  36. Really? Another week of seeing this this on the front page. Let it die with dignity unlike his career.

On December 5, 2010, Carpenter made a 60-yard field goal in a home game against the Cleveland Browns. This was the longest field goal in Miami Dolphins history.

Just Saying. That was Less than 4 years Ago.

  39. Fair enough I exaggerated a bit to make my point. It does not change the fact that overall he has been a disappointment for me.

glad he's not signing with Cleveland in time for our game with them this week. Browns kinda dropped the ball on this one as they had scheduled Carp to work out tomorrow with another kicker. Now that other kicker is probably just going to be given the job.
