So you can go to your boss and tell him he's a few million dollars richer. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
Yes, Patterson will cover the inside receiver in the 3 wr sets most teams run regularly now. That puts Carroll out on the boundary, I couldn't imagine him trying to cover the slot Wr. If he flames out, they replace him with Davis or Taylor, of course we lose some games in the process but money saved, though it could have easily been spent, is still money saved. Pennywise and pound foolish, unless we acquire a Te this is a mistake.
Agree in premise Pad that its foolish to release a guy over money when cap is in good shape but Marshall or no Marshall makes little difference. He wasn't a very good player and was a waste to begin with. Another Ireland FA strike out. Davis is good. He will get beat sometimes yes, but he has anticipation and a knack for the ball that cannot be taughtp
Seriously guys? Your surprised? We've only been discussing and assuming this since JANUARY that at least one of them would be cut. It was a pretty even battle between Patterson/Marshall. So something had to fall. Lets not act surprised. Plus we got 2nd/3rd round picks invested. They want them on the field in some capacity which one might not have been had they kept him. The more interesting thing though right now. Miami now has 2 starting caliber DT's and 2 starting CB's as free agents in the offseason (unless we hear Patterson signed an extension to lower his number which could be the other half of this.)
It is very surprising because of the time. Taylor hasnt had much work, Davis looks like he could be a player but definitely needs some work and Carroll just sucks ***. We have plenty of cap space. So, yes, this is surprising in that sense.
Same Davis who was being toastee-O'd by Texan third stringers. Davis has been a practice all star, Marshall's skillset was more about when the pads came on and limiting YAC and RAC, this is the sort of decision that Ireland has made over the years that I do not agree with at all. Cap space does not win football games, it never has won football games.
I liked Marshall, but he's too expensive for security when you've got five other cornerbacks on the roster who deserve significant snaps and other areas(WR, RB, DT) where you also may want to keep additional players on the roster. I don't know if this is a Will Davis thing so much as it is a Nolan Carroll thing.
http://www.thephins.com/forums/show...t-this-year/page2&highlight=dimitri+patterson Guess that question got answered!
Can someone seriously tell me what Rotoworld and Evan Silva's issue is with the Dolphins? Every blurb from him sounds incredibly bitter and spiteful. Like they're Jets fans who love to **** on the Dolphins every chance they get. I don't understand it.
yeah I'm not gonna get that worked up for a soon to be 29 year old corner, who's not really a coner, with a serious back problem and average game, not when I have a Jamar Taylor who can play that boundary while Patterson plays the slot in nickel.
Well right now we have Grimes/Patterson. Patterson can move into the slot in the nickel and at the very worse Nolan comes in. But I have to assume with 2 games left that Taylor can beat him out for that role. Then it's just a matter of Davis/Nolan fighting the 4th spot. I can live with that.
Also, kind of funny how everyone hated this signing and bashed Marshall all of last season/this offseason, yet are now *****ing because he was released. LOL.
I'm a little surprised because of Jamar Taylor's health problems. But pleasantly surprised. In a vacuum (forgetting need and the rest of the CBs), he just isn't worth that $$. The first question should always be 'does the salary match ability?' That should always comes before need and depth, imo. I like the move. Doesn't hurt that I'm a really big fan of Will Davis...
Based merely on draft position. I recall 09 when SS and VD started, and they excuse was "..they cannot follow a Wr across the defense because they don't know the defense well enough", Taylor has practiced a week and a half, yet we just waived our Vet Cb for no apparent reason. Prepare thyself Mr Deej.
Well, Patterson won the #2 corner job, and really is there any difference in Nolan Carroll and Richard Marshall?
Carroll is allergic to making plays on passes in the air and is an indifferent tackler, other than that they are mirror images of each other.
It's like deja vu Vonte. No clue WTF they are doing, the backup guys in the secondary have looked pretty bad, IMO.
He played 4 games last yr with a bad back, we've seen Carroll for years. Basically Carroll reminds me of our Cb's during the mid to late 80's teams, great athlete, just not a great football player and gives up long plays.
Youth baby, bring it on, I don't have superbowl aspirations for a 2nd year coach and Qb..Marshall did not play last year..lol
Bro, you don't have to tell me about Carroll, not a fan..but what are you basing your regret of cutting Marshall, he didn't show sh@& last year when he played, bad back or not, didnt show much in preseason..I just don't care if we move on and move the rooks up, I'll take the hit to get the experience.
Agree, I think most thought it would be Patterson, but no one should be surprised one is cut...money saved for signing Grimes long term.
He did intercept a Sanchez pass last year in the first Jets game before he got hurt. That was the one play I remember Marshall making.
Nope, not I Deej, been on the "hope" diet with this team for a long time now, time to win..period. No excuses.
oh yeah, well, Nolan had 66 tackles last year and is a way better special teamer than Marshall, and doesn't cost 5 mill...lol
I'm not sure Silva has an issue with the Dolphins. Ireland, however, is a different matter. In fact, the disdain he seems to have for Ireland would make LB'sFinest green with envy.
Yep, great athlete, not much of a football player. I think Carroll is better than Lankford was, but you know what he is, not bad, not likely to get much better for us.
I understand, we don't know if he's the same player after his back injury, it was pretty severe, and I can attest, I don't know how one plays the game of football with nerve damage in the back, it's a time bomb waiting to go off, and can effect your mindset.
There are a lot of dumb opinions regarding this move. How any one can say this was a dumb signing to begin with is ignorant. He was a good slot corner who signed for that amount. I think Carrol is a decent corner so I wouldn't mind if he starts with Patterson as the slot corner until Taylor or Davis show they are ready. Best case scenario one of them prove it immediately so Carrol is the dime corner.
