He was a 3rd rounder in 2006, and was a regular starter his first 3 seasons. Been a part timer and a backup ever since. Missed last season totally with a foot sprain.

He played 35 snaps against us in the Jags game and PFF graded him an overall +2.3, a pretty good grade for 35 snaps on the OL. Philbin obviously knows him. If we did sign him it would not be a surprise.

If it comes down to him or Samuda, yes.

I don't think so, we've got a bunch of borderline starters already. He isn't any better than Jerry, Garner, and Louis, and adding another guy just takes away a spot for a developmental player.

Are people seriously maligning an undrafted free agent whom is struggling in a starting role in his second training camp?

For the talent level, he's played at least par...I just think he needs a season to develop. I wouldn't malign him personally, but many others do/have, particularly on the social media...lame.

I was just wondering, given that Spitz has a past with Philbin (good, bad or otherwise, he was a starter for 3 yrs), if he might be better than the guys we have...

We know that Garner is limited, usually due to injury, but even then, as a starter he's always been a question, as a fill-in, he's done fine.
We know that JJ to this point has been a disappointment, although the reports were good from this offseason, OTA's and PS before his injury.
We know that Louis is a medical question and was the best OL on a bad OL the last two years...
We know that Samuda needs another year in the weight room and gaining experience at this level before we can evaluate him properly.
We know that Thomas needs more time.

We also know that at this point, they are banking on either JJ or LL as the RG for this OL and even if one of those guys are in there, RG would still be the weak link...

Drafted or undrafted, I'm not comfortable with Josh Samuda starting on this offensive line at this time. Louis or Jerry must get healthy.

Spitz is very much a finesse OL but he can play G or C and could be an ideal 8th OL.

He was ok. He did give up a lot of sacks though.

The last time he started a full season was 2008, and he gave up 2 sacks in 1071 snaps.

no i still hope he makes the team, although i have to admit, i´m a little disappointed in his performance, i thought he would take that opportunity and never look back

I am almost positive he gave up a lot. I know we had one game where Rodgers was sacked 10 times and one lineman kept giving up all the sacks. It was a game against the Bengals.

PFF goes back to 2008, and that is what they have on Spitz. 2006 and 2007 he may well have in one of those years.
