That's not a bad deal by any means. Should help the Yankees out in their contract discussions with Cano too since Pedroia and Utley are getting around 13 to 14 million a year. I doubt you see Cano get 20 like he wants.
He is going to want years and to be overall the highest paid 2nd in terms of per year avg and total worth..... I'd offer 6/108....that's it..18M is the highest per year, and 108 in the highest total....
That seems, at least on paper, like a completely fair offer to Cano. I mean besides the Dodgers where else can he really go?
Maybe the Mets? Otherwise I just don't see it. Just quickly looking at the AL: no one in the East besides the Yankees and maybe a darkhorse could be Baltimore. In the Central: He'd be a fit in Detroit but not sure if they want to spend money on him when they have to extend Scherzer otherwise no other team there. In the AL West I don't see any team jumping in. In the NL East, no one except for maybe the Mets but probably a long shot anyway. In the Central no teams and in the West just the Dodgers. So the Yankees, Dodgers and maybe the Mets, O's and Tigers. But the last three teams are pure speculation on my part.
6 years for what surely is going to be the downside of his career. Honestly, I don't see him as the face of the franchise, he dogs it too much for my liking. He's not Jeter or Mattingly. If they re-sign him great, but I hope it's for 5 years, the Yankees never stop making the same mistake... What was the definition of insanity again?
They were talking about it last night about how he has been dogging it yet again on multiple occasions the past few weeks, and that in the past Jeter, Rivera, AP people like that could and would be able to talk to him, but if he signs a long term deal those guys are going to be gone.......it is what he does, the guy has all the talent could be a .330 hitter, but would rather coast and be a 290-300 hitter....
FLorida might be a good place for Cano, he'd be a star, he could dog it and they really wouldnt care. Hard to see Loria shelling out money anytime soon though.
Eh I can't see him or any big time FA going there unless they got a full no trade clause due to what they did with Reyes and Buerhle. Unless of course they grossly overpay for someone.
I may be in love with Clayton Kershaw. I really don't think it is out of the question for him to win the Cy Young AND the MVP. He has been THAT good.
Wow, kind of shocked they fired him mid season, instead of just letting him walk away on his own at the end of the year.
Yea I don't get what the point was? Edit: Unless they wanted Sandberg to take over next year and get him some expire nice before next season. But still.
I'm sure that's why they did it, but I don't know, maybe it's just me and having to go through the Francona crap with Boston but Manuel wasn't the problem in Philly this year and it was obvious he wasn't coming back next year and he did do a lot for the franchise, you'd think they would be a little more respectful.
Really really really good (but long) article written by former MLB OFer Gabe Kapler about PEDs: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=21574 Must read in my opinion.
That was very good. I must admit, I had Kapler pegged as a PED user after seeing his picture years ago as well. Eye opener really.
You're not the only one but again is part of his point of the article. Which is too bad and I'm sure people will still think he's lying about PED use because that's, unfortunately, the world we live in now.
Dice K to the Mets Not a bad move, they have kids coming to the end of the pitch limits, Dice K should eat some innings.
Excellent on both accounts. It's such a shame the career Delmon had. He was hitting 500 foot HRs at 16 at tropicana field. He was Bryce Harper before Bryce.
Ah those Rays continue to bring in such character guys, well Delmon anyway. I guess there's nothing really to lose with trying to see if he has anything left but he's been pretty awful with the bat and glove since his rookie year. It would be surprising if he bought much to the table.
He definitely deserves it again but his team sucks so he probably won't. I guess it all depends on how much Cabrera plays this month or if Baltimore makes a playoff run with Davis going off.
I never understood the whole " he is on a bad team how valuable can he be" when its harder to put up big numbers in a bad lineup then a loaded one. Hopefully voters are starting to understand what stats like WAR mean.
Well it's just funny because the voters consistently change their minds from year to year to fit whoever that voter wants to win. They had no problem voting Arod as the MVP in 2003 when the Rangers were in last place, for example, and it was well deserved. I believe it was George King who didn't vote for Pedro Martinez for MVP in 1999 and said it was because he didn't think a pitcher should be the MVP yet voted for pitchers before AND after 1999. And of course there are always beat writer homers, like Evan Grant from Texas, who gave Michael Young a 2nd place MVP vote in 2010. If you put Cabrera on the Angels, the Angels still suck. If you put Trout on the Tigers, they would still make the playoffs. Not sure why being on a playoff team should matter but that's just me.
Last day of the year with a potential 3 way tie for the wild card.....holy crap....what happens if there is? do 5/6 play to determine the 5 and the 4 is there on tiebreakers?
Really rooting hard for a 3 way tie. What would happen is two teams play on Monday, the loser plays the other team on Tuesday, then the two winners of the game play on Wednesday with the winner playing Boston on Friday to start the ALDS. But ask me which teams will play who, MLB Network did the run down last night but my head hurt from them trying to explain it. But seriously everyone should be rooting for a 3 way tie.
