That's one of the most rational trade proposals I've heard. In the words of Dr. Spock, it is completely, flawlessly logical.

Lots of rumors regarding Udonis Haslem being dealt for a PG.

Drafting Beasley and moving Haslem in a deal that includes Hinrich, Mo Williams, or even Kyle Lowry makes a ton of sense, and it's a pretty heated rumor. T.J. Ford on the other hand, would be a horrible fit next to Dwyane Wade and is probably one James Posey-foul away from a potential career ending injury.

Mo Williams can put up points. I like Lowry and Hinrich. If Haslem is dealt, then I think Beasley would be bound for Miami. The only problem with that would be is if Chicago takes Beasley then you guys would be stuck with Derrick Rose which by no means is bad but you would have gotten a PG.

Chicago has unofficially selected Derrick Rose with the #1 selection.

Rose says that he doesn't plan on visiting Miami.

    Forget the Height.

Here is a problem: Most scouts measure these guys flat footed with their arms extended overhead.

Beasley is 1/4 "taller" than Brandon Rush.

he is a combo forward as of now. he is not a true PF. we CANNOT trade Haslem if we pick beasley. a Haslem/marion/beasley minute rotation would be nice. he cannot take the minutes at the 4. he would be better suited to share his minutes between the 3 and the 4.

after reading rose's comments i want the heat to draft beasley. i also don't think beasley has real "off court issues." the line up of:

    banks
    wade
    beasley
    marion
    zo

doesn't look too bad. if zo is healthy, team would be really exciting. we'd have shooters around wade and zo and marion to lock down defense and rebounds.

also beasley would be an x-factor, giving us low post scoring (which we dont have) and a better shooter than rose.

even if Zo comes back I cant imagine him starting, not at his age. Maybe playoff time, assuming we make the playoffs, which no reason why we shouldn't. I still think we need to go after a PF/C in FA.

You're half right. It makes a ton of sense for the Heat. For the life of me, though, I can't imagine why the Griz or Bucks would give up a good, young point guard for a league-average power forward. I could see Haslem for Hinrich working if only because Hinrich's contract looks more and more like a liability for the Bulls.

Beasley's arms are very long, though, thus making his height less important. He can play the 4 full time.

personally I think Beasely would be a great fit with Marion and Wade . A higher tempo kind of offense would be fun to watch.

All four PG's that I mentioned were brought up by the Miami Herald. Personally, I don't see why Milwaukee would make such a deal either, but it's rumored.

As for Kyle Lowry, I don't think he's necessarily more valuable on the trade market than Udonis Haslem. Then, you've got to figure in Memphis' log jam at PG with Mike Conley, Jr. and Javaris Crittenton and their lack of depth at the PF position. Who do they have outside of Hakim Warrick who isn't a true starting PF to begin with? Memphis doesn't have a single tough, scrappy player up front on their entire roster, IMO. Darko Milicic, Hakim Warrick, and Jason Collins.........vomit worthy.

I definitely agree with the above statement. I don't see the big deal about Michael Beasley's height or lack thereof. I am merely questioning the multiple reports with different numbers. He's got the wingspan of a 6'10-6'11 guy (maybe even 7'0, I'd have to research), and he's got a ton of bulk. Throw Michael Beasley at 6'8 1/4 down low against 6'10 1/2 Chris Bosh, and I'm putting my money on Beasley coming away with the basket and/or a trip to the charity strike.

The question of course is what he'll be able to do defensively, but that job belongs to Pat Riley and Randy Pfund. They've got to find a defensive minded center to pair with him; not Mark Blount. EDIT: Desagana Diop or Jeff Foster (unrestricted free agents) would do the trick temporarily.

Statistically, Warrick's better than Haslem. Warrick had a 16.2 PER last year, whereas Haslem had 13.7. And Warrick's rebound rate of 7.3 per 36 minutes is plenty good enough to get the job done at the 4.

Lowry's a good young point guard; he can score and dish and makes good decisions. True, Memphis needs to resolve that logjam at the point, but I just think there's plenty of better ways to do it. But hell, this is the team that gave up Pau Gasol for a bag of magic beans, so I shouldn't put it past them.

Well, there are a lot of guys who are statistically better than Udonis Haslem, but that doesn't mean much to me. I've seen Hakim Warrick play, and he shouldn't start on a basketball team unless the center is a superstar. Warrick is decent at best to me, and he doesn't bring anything extra to the table aside from what you know you're going to get from him which is high energy and an athletic mismatch. I'll take Udonis Haslem's hustle alone over Hakim Warrick any day of the week. The problem with bringing up Warrick's rebound numbers per 36 minutes is the fact that Memphis doesn't have anyone who can board at the 5. In terms of complimentary players, Darko Milicic and Hakim Warrick make for a terrible front court, especially when you add the fact that there isn't a single decent rotation player in the front court.

Kyle Lowry is still a guy who can potentially be a solid point guard in this league. He's an excellent ball handler with fine passing skills, but he can't shoot and he's questionable defensively. Personally, I like this guy a lot, but I don't see how he's as valuable as you're making him out to be. Again, very gifted athlete with a ton of potential, but he hasn't done much albeit only two years in the league. Udonis Haslem has equal or better value overall on the trade market, IMO.

Point guard Derrick Rose will work out for the Heat Saturday in Los Angeles, despite earlier reports to the contrary.
Rose's representation stated that Rose would not be holding anymore workouts, but that information was wrong. While there's still a decent chance that Rose will be drafted by the Bulls with the No. 1 pick, it's now obvious that they have not made a promise to him.

Yeah, no kidding. When I see Screamin' A. Smith, I think God decided to take everything that was wrong with sports journalism and put it in one neat, tidy package to punish us for something.

  23. phunwin

phunwin Happy kids are Dolfans. Luxury Box

BTW, it made no sense for the Bulls to promise #1 to Rose or Beasley. What's the point of promising the #1 pick? You only promise a pick to get a player to shut down his workouts so no one else can look at him. This protects the player from going any lower, and protects the team from having the player go above their slot. Well, the Bulls gain nothing by having Rose shut down his workouts, save for the slight risk of avoiding injury. And given how closely these workouts are monitored, an injury is a seriously long shot. Why not get as much information as possible, right up to draft day?

It's either Screaming A. Smith or porn, and The Phins doesn't allow porn.

Btw, I saw Michael Beasley @ South Beach last night wearing an all black Heat fitted.

Isn't he supposed to be back in Chicago or something? Cuttin' class like always.

I don't see why Miami wouldn't flip Tyrus Thomas w/ Joakim Noah. I'm sure Chicago would.

G - Derrick Rose, Marcus Banks
G - Larry Hughes, Daequan Cook
F - Shawn Marion, Dorell Wright
F - Michael Beasley, Udonis Haslem
C - Joakim Noah, Alonzo Mourning

That makes for a crazy young line-up. Shawn Marion expires after 2008-2009, but he then becomes expendable because instead of keeping Dwyane Wade's max contract the following summer, Larry Hughes expires after 2009-2010 right before the big summer. Moving Shawn Marion for Michael Redd in that sense would be ideal for both teams. Milwaukee is trying to move Redd, and they'd get an expiring contract in return who still plays at an All-Star level.

Can't deny a core of Rose, Redd, Beasley, and a potential big name free agent in 2010, but I'd still be sick to my stomach over Wade, and there's no way Riley does such a thing, IMO.

With Riley's penchant for maturity, I don't know that Noah is his kind of guy.

I can't imagine Wade being traded at age 26. But you can never say never.

  28. phunwin

phunwin Happy kids are Dolfans. Luxury Box

Well, the marijuana possession charge was dropped, and in any case, it's not exactly uncommon in the NBA. Noah works hard, hustles and plays solid D, all things Riles loves.

If the Heat swap Wade for the #1, Thomas (or Noah) and Hughes, they're idiots. I can't imagine they'd do it, but it's not the first time this rumor has come up, so you can't totally dismiss it out of hand.

Just to play devil's advocate, I suppose if they WERE to swap Wade, now would be the time. If Riley is concerned enough about his injury problems to believe that he's on the verge of a Penny Hardaway-like decline (which I don't), I suppose they should trade him before it becomes evident to other teams. That's the only rationale I can see for the Heat entertaining such an idea.

That's exactly what I've been thinking. The only way that Wade is actually shopped is if Riley sees something in his recovery where he may never be the same. I mean, all the right things have been said, but you never really know. I can't imagine Wade being dealt, but this is a business above all. Wade also seems like the type who says all the right things, so it's always possible that we're completely out of the loop with what's really going on, although I doubt it.

Still, I'm taking every Dwyane Wade trade rumor with a grain of salt because I'm too young to die.

I'll believe Wade gets traded when I see him in another team's uniform. Until then, no way.

Besides, if we trade him, who exactly is this team built around? If you take both Rose and Beasley, which of the two is your team's focal point? Who's the number one guy? Who's steering the ship?

If Miami leaves this draft without Rose, Beasley, Mayo, or a Chris Bosh type, I will never watch another Heat game in my life until Pat Riley is completely out of the league.

I'm tired of the rumors about dropping back to 4 or 5 just to "dump" Mark Blount and/or Marcus Banks.

/vent after watching Ira on NBC talk up Jerryd Bayless & Chris Wilcox.

we'll be fine. it's all pre-draft smokescreen. riley is doing his "due-diligence" as team president and seeing what we might be able to get for the #2.

i'm pretty confident we're coming away with beasley or rose. if we get somebody else, it's because some team floored us with an awesome offer. pat riley's trade resume is pretty impressive.

the more i think about, even though i'm in love with rose, i think beasley is a perfect fit for this team. if we get a diop type player with the MLE, it's going to be an exciting season.

Truth be told I think Beasley is a better fit for both teams at the top. Both could really use an inside scoring presence to take pressure off their guards. Neither team is that far from really competing in this league.

I may be in the minority, but I am not sold that Chicago is going for Rose.

Alexander Johnson waived, per RealGM's wire tap.

I'm guessing it was merely casual rather than making room for a 2-for-1 or 3-for-2 type of deal.

Anyways, three days to go. Michael Beasley or fail.
