Even if he doesn't start, he's a better LB than Spraghan was. In that respect, we've gotten better by having him here. I actually see him as one of the starters, but Ayodele, Crowder and company may have something to say about it...Merling might be the wild card. If he develops enough to steal some playing time at OLB...it could be fun...Of course, whatever JT does is gravy for this year, unless he's gone...
I think merling's contribution as a linebacker should come in obvious running situations, I see him maybe as an inside guy (DT) on obvious passing situation. I dont think we will see much more than that this year
It would be nice if every LBer were like Zach Thomas, but as we've found out, replacing a Zach or Marino just isn't as simple as it sounds. For any of Zach's faults and deficiencies, he made up for it by being a special player at his position...just like Danny. To expect that the next body passing into the MLB spot will be as good as Zach was is...well...hoping...not realistic...
oh i know no one will be up to his level.....just pointing out the numbers, more of given props to zach than anything....
I liked watching Torbor when he was up here playing for the Giants. Hard player who never got on the field starting on a regular basis though.
