Keith Law updated his top 50 prospects: Bogaerts is at #3, Cecchini at #21, JBJ #24, and Henry Owens at #31. Blake Swihart got an honorable mention.
Just Sanchez at #49, was at #18 at the preseason. Main knocks on him is the question as to whether he can catch at the MLB level, he has issues receiving pitches while at offense his raw power hasn't translated to in game skill. No honorable mentions either. It's been a rough year for Yankee top prospects.
They are really bad in the scouting department, the Oppenheimer's are awful at scouting. Think about when was the last good prospect the Yankees has that go drafted? Even now with all their injuries, they don't have one guy who can step in, NOT ONE... All of these guys are struggling on the farm, it is clear they don't use advance stats when determining picks...
Yeah they really have done a poor job drafting for awhile now. I've heard that they changed their approach a bit this year and had a pretty good draft according to people that cover it, so we'll see. You're right though they haven't had a solid position player come up for them since Brett Gardner or pitchers since Hughes/Joba so that's six or seven years now. Not good.
Andrew Bailey is back on the DL (surprise surprise) which is too bad because it looked like he finally turned things around. Sox will need to get bullpen help and depending on what the heck is wrong with Buchholz get another SPer. Sox have signed Brandon Lyon and Jose Contreras to minor league deals and will pitch out of the pen for Triple A. EDIT: Damn, seems like Bailey's injury to the shoulder might be pretty bad. Come be done for the year.
his labrum is blown out, he is done.... sloppy game by the Sox today......although on bit of comedy is when Pedoria fouled out and then Nava tried to take 2nd...his face is priceless..
http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2...boston-steakhouse/?ocid=Yahoo&partner=ya5nbcs I bet there are so many of these stories that go unheard of, I hope they make a documentary on his final season...
No one is impossible to beat in such a short series. Moore was great last night, definitely tip your cap to him though.
Almost though Fink if you have 3 good starters?? Nevermind 4? Luck will most definitely will have to be on your side...
Oh yeah they would be extremely tough for sure no debating that. I just wouldn't say that they would be impossible to beat.
So I have been thinking about this PED stuff.....Colon is about to get binged Oakland is screwed, Crus as well Texas is screwed, and Perrelta as well so Det is screwed..... Translation? All turning up roses for the Sox Seriously if some Rays turn up magically I will think there is a conspiracy....hahah
Oakland seems to think that Colon won't be suspended because he served his time last year. Depending on what evidence they have on him, they could have a point. But the others yeah it could absolutely change the way the races will go down this year.
Melky might be in the same boat as Colon. If it's proven he got substances after the original suspension then he'll get 100 games, if not the MLB might just let it go. But that's just a guess by me.
Steal of a deal for the Sox...well done.... Well and I am being serious, Cano's contract should look that much different as it is arguable who is the better 2nd basemen......
First off I'm happy for Pedroia. Guy plays hard all the time, is a good guy, good ball player. Glad he's even richer. It was probably smart of the Sox to lock him up now because Cano will likely get a bigger deal in the offseason and thus the Sox would probably have to pay Pedroia even more. As far as who is better? They're pretty close but the edge probably goes to Cano who has the higher upside with the bat and has more power. But I doubt any fan of either team would trade them for each other straight up.
Nah he was giving that hometown discount out regardless you hear him in that interview? maybe not 14M if Cano signed but it would have been no more than 15-16.... he wanted to stay there simple and plain....it is nice to see, alot different than Cano who is going to hold the Yanks for every penny he can just like Jeter did a few years back....
Just goes to show you just how up and down RPers are. In March, K-Rod would have paid a team to sign him, now he might be the best RPer available on the trade market. This is why you don't shell out big bucks for RPers, way too unpredictable.
Would of a solid pick up for whoever if they could get him for cheap. Even though Garza is worth more, Texas gave up a lot for him. We will see how much Peavy costs. Hes got a pretty good load of a contract too.
I know Boston was interested in Peavy this offseason before he ended up resigning with the White Sox. Peavy still has 1 more year left on the deal for 14 million in 2014 with a 15 million player option for 2015 depending on health. The Red Sox can easily afford to take on his contract so it makes sense. The Soxes have also made 2 or 3 trades already with each other so that helps. I think the Sox need to make a move for another SPer due to the health of Buchholz. I'd rather they go after a SPer instead of a RPer. Of course Workman has looked good in his first 2 starts.
Dr. Andrews said there was no structural damage just a little inflammation in the neck, so as EEI said this morning, ole Clay needs to just nut up and pitch.... The team needs him right now....he should be out there...
I don't really like to bash players when they say they're hurt because we really have no clue what they're going through or feeling etc. With that being said now that he got the word from both Sox doctors and Andrews, Clay needs to get back on the mound and pitch. I don't question that it is hurting him, he just needs to learn how to play with the pain now. I mean if you think about it, the Sox and Rays have the 2nd and 3rd best records in baseball right now and both teams have been without their ace pitcher for more than a month at a time. Thank God for Lackey and The Pitcher Formerly Known as Fausto Carmona right?
Matt Moore too. But I agree I mean until you find out what it is, it is best to be careful with it, but if the tests says green light, it is go time.....at this point if he doesn't he would be letting his mates down.
Am I the only one who doesn't like the Pedroia extension? He's a very good player but these deals rarely work out, especially when the player is on the wrong side of 30.
I agree actually. I get these teams don't want to pay all the money up front, but why are they not signing them to these long deals when their 27? Pay them. They knew how good he was.
*Cough* Thing is, being a tough pro player is built up over the years, when players are somewhat coddled they have foundation to really know "how" to play when they are nicked up, it's just not really there mentally.
He's a plus hitter and plus defender at 2B and will be making roughly 14 million per year. I don't think it's a bad contract at all, actually it's a pretty friendly team deal. Sox did sign Pedroia to long term deal when he was younger, now they're simply extending him.
I am not saying its a bad contract, I just thinking on how Pedroia is going to be playing at 38 and how hes going to be making 15 million a year. I think its a decent contract, length and price wise. Just think they should of done it 2 years earlier is all. For instance at 2B, Rays signed Zobrist to an extension where he will be signed until hes 35 and he will make 7.5 million. Obviously we got him at a little bit of a discount considering the production when we signed him compared to Pedroia. But this is the reason I believe you sign this guys to big contracts at younger age if you believe in that player. What the Rays did with Longo was absolute genius. Although could back fire as well. I would recommend a year or two after what the Rays did with Longo.
I agree with your point sure. If you get 5 of 7 good years on that contract it is worth it to me however. 14 million is so low for him. 14 million in 7 years is going to be like 10 million now.
I think signing him past 30 and into 38 is the mistake. He's obviously very good but how long will that last?
38 is more then well into your 30s...Just so you know, currently there isnt a single 38 year old starting second baseman in baseball. Closest is Marco Scutaro. And I dont think we will see anyone claim hes worth 15 mill..
