http://miamiherald.typepad.com/spor...ryan-visits-chad-more-from-riley-marlins.html Looks like we got ourselves a big man battle to see who's gonna stay. Jaws watches the tape on routes.. Anyone else get the sense that brent grimes is a superior player?..just the way he compliments and people compliment him gives me the sense that's he's an alpha in a small package. Pretty clear why they decided to move in from Bess's skillset.. Omar Kelly recently said that Tannehill lacks the "assassin" trait the great ones have.. I don't know about that but the ability to inspire his team to up their level of game and demand accountability is something I believe a Qb can accomplish if he has the right skills in that dept..The kid has always been playing catch up on the art of qb'ing, lets see once he gets comfortable playing the position can he tap into those qualities.
Some nice tidbits for a Sunday afternoon. The bit about Binns was interesting to me, sounds like he's got himself a leg up on others for the #4 WR spot going into training camp. Isn't it good to be talking about a WR like him for the #4/5 spot rather than one of our starters like last year...
I've liked Binns since last yr, it is troubling that he is playing better than Gibson the FA signing. Some folks prefer Matthews, it is not that I don't like his game, just think Binns is more polished.
How would Omar know if Tannehill lacks the assassin trait? Actually, it is the first time I've ever heard the term "assassin trait" when it comes to NFL QBs. I can just picture Jaws and Edwards talking about Wallace and glad I missed it. Edwards is so obnoxious and overbearing on that show, if I were one of the other analysts, I'd want to punch him in the nose. Maybe he is pissed off that no other team is stupid enough to hire him so he just decides to come across as a jerk on ESPN. I actually hate listening to him more than I do Heath Evans.
Committing to Jared Odrick at DT makes me feel uneasy. Yeah, he's younger than both, but...I guess we'll see how he does in 2013? I really hope there's not an implication that they're purely thinking of Dion Jordan as a DE; though the fact that he lists Misi among the guys they want to bring back muddies the waters slightly. I suppose they can still be creative with Jordan from a DE position, perhaps akin to some of the things Cincinnati does with Michael Johnson and what we saw from Cameron Wake later in the year in nickel and sub packages. I think Rishard Matthews will surprise some people. I like him more than Armon Binns, and I've seen Binns play since his days a UC Bearcat. I'm glad they're taking the wait-and-see approach with Richie Incognito. I really like Dallas Thomas as a LG and I think he'll fit nicely if/when he gets the opportunity.
Its such a stupid comparison. How can a QB resemble an assassin? If he means personality, Tom Brady is a male model and A. Rod and peyton are extremely nice guys and personable. And I feel like herm has been as humbled as possible for him by how his career went. But, he is pretty damn obnoxious. The guy loves hearing himself yell.
What that moron OmarK is talking about is killer instinct to finish with Td's and to drive the team in the last possession for the win. I stopped twitter following him long ago for water brained comments like "he's not a killer"
Interesting that they seem to have drafted Thomas with replacing Incognito in mind. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I call that being competetitive. I get what he was getting at, its just a dumb word choice to sound.. extreme? I really like throwing touchdowns, its my navy seal trait.
More Sunday news....5 weeks until the Hall of Fame game! When you get to see the new jerseys in action.
A buddy of mine and I go down to UT every year to watch them play either Bama or LSU. We were both pretty impressed with Thomas at LG last year. I think if you look way back in the Draft Thread, my two key guys that stuck out in that game were Cordarrelle Patterson and Thomas, as far as the Vols went anyway.
so then you show me where did philbin say that Binns is a better signing or has impressed more than Gibson ?
I got Matthews in that race Clay..going back and watching some of his college stuff again, it's become very apparent how strong this kid is, how consistently he makes the catch and does something to make the first guy miss, his body is fantastic..Binns has been gettin a lot of talk though..
Appears fairly clear, perhaps that means something different to you? As for throwing Td's (directed at Bevo), I tend to agree, but also think Sherman just preferred to run the ball for Td's as the field is so small in the RZ or inside the 10 yd line they protected him. In fact last yr I rarely recall THill rolling out with a run/pass option inside the 10, which is a sort of gimmie Td most of the time
Regarding the Odrick situation, at this point, I'd have to think DT would be a pretty high priority for one of our first picks in 2014.
If we're gong to sign either Solai or Starks next year, move Odrick in the middle, why would we go dtackle? If we're projecting this early without seeing who flourishes and who fails this year, I would go all in on Colt Lyeria..
We'll see Deej, suspect he doesn't really have a Rabbi, but also think he was far smoother in the offense last yr then Matthews played like.
Wait, I didn't see anything in the article (or any other reports) that said that Binns is playing better than Gibson. Philbin did say sometimes he likes bigger bodies in the middle, but that was all that was said ?? Besides one thing we know about Gibson, is that he knows how to get off defenders...we don't really know that about Binns... Really, how many WRs have shown flashes in minicamps and then disappeared in TC... I think we need to wait until after camp starts before we can really analyze the WRs...or any of the team for that matter...
Because you have in the middle on the last year of his deal in 2014. I'm skeptical of him moving as a DT full-time. I know he played it in college and has played it in sub packages, but I don't see him being an upgrade to Randy Starks as a 3 technique DT.
I think it's a bit harder than Jackson seems to think than to characterize Miami's 2014 off-season at this point. They could have a quite significant amount of cap space, and it's difficult to assume the Dolphins will have interest in re-signing a majority of the players, much make serious attempts at all of them. Some of them won't live up to expectations, some of them will ask for too much money relative to their merits even if affordable. Some have had potential replacements already drafted(Incognito, Misi, non-Grimes corners). Miami let most of all of their free agents walk last year, I wouldn't expect the same this year but I think it puts it into context. Personally, I don't expect to see Incognito, Misi, Soliai, or Starks re-signed on the face of it right now.
Well, if he doesn't impress this year than I see your point, and there are some very good dtackle prospects, however, I want him to show a hi level of play so we can continue to build the team elsewhere.
I like Matthews too, will be interesting to see who shows up most in training camp, it seems like Matthew and Binns have both had their moments of praise from OTA's/minicamp. I was hoping to hear more of Fuller and this year's UDFA's like Bumphis and Collins, but apart from a day or two of reporters calling Bumphis' name out, I've not heard much. Whatever happens, I'm pretty excited to see what a 3/4/5 of Gibson/Matthews/Binns can do for us, and unless one of the others lights up camp I reckon that'll be our last three WR's this season.
Lol..Omar with assasin trait comment after he tweets he once shot at a man. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Obviously, I'd like for that to be the case as well. I still think though that Odrick's going to see a good amount of his snaps at DE in the base package again this year.
Because right now it's questionable whether Odrick is going to perform well enough to adequately replace either Starks or Soliai. Obviously, if he does perform well when he's playing inside this coming year, it would lessen the need to use a high pick for a DT next year. The same thing applies if one of the backups steps up and develops. If neither of the above happens then we will likely draft a DT early.
Recall Keith Byers? He reminds of a slimmer version of him in terms of smoothness when he catches the ball. BUT, we are talking about the #4 Wr, Matthews is under a cheaper contract whose rights we control for a longer period of time and is also a draftee of the current GM, he has no Rabbini so to speak so his bar is higher than Matthews.
I find it interesting that Binns is not playing to impress Coach Philbin or Coach Sherman but RT. Shows me that RT has the respect of the team and is emerging as a leader. Also interesting that RT went to visit CP to improve on those vary things. NoticRead more here: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/spor...ad-more-from-riley-marlins.html#storylink=cpy
Im hoping for fuller to make a jump and compete for that last spot, last year The vast majority thought he had no chance for anything, I thought he would stick with the camp he had..
says to me that he is playing faster as apposed to playing slower. It doesn't say to me Binns is playing faster than Gibson and out playing him...
Lots of questions about the future at DT. Even the depth this year. What exactly are our plans for Odrick ? When does his deal expire ? He looks less like a DT every year, but we've invested in Jordan and Vernon now. We're setting ourselves up to spend a lot of resources on DT next offseason.
Makes sense - Thomas would be much cheaper than Incognito, and G is not usually a difficult spot to have cheap talent.
Matthews is physically an imposing player at 6'1 with the way he's built, also his strength flashes all the time, been watchin a lot of interviews n such from the past, really has a great attitude about playing football, trains hard for his craft, doesn't seems like he cares to much about anything else but playing ball kind of attitude, I think he's a lock for the # 4. As far as Keith Byars, remember when that dude with his short little choppy steps would go out in that flat and catch that screen on his hip and turn the corner, dudes hips and thighs were made of steel..lol...made me laugh every time..
Looks like their plan is to have Jordan play at D end, thus giving us a nice rotation this year at dtackle, with an eye on Odrick moving permanently inside for the future, obviously if he plays well enough.
