Well were post E3 where Nintendo just pretty much showed all their usual franchise games coming soon so that will get sales. The other part is they recalled the cheaper version so you can only buy that premium pack now...so it was going to go up just cause of that ;p

There are only two types of games that rely on a persistent online connection: multiplayer games and Xbox One games. And you also confuse "uses the cloud" with "uses an online connection" the two are not related. Again, I don't think you actually know what "cloud" refers to.

No, they aren't. The Verge: No Internet for Xbox One? Get a 360, says Microsoft

This is not backing down, this is digging in.

Clearly you have no clue where the cloud is headed so you can stop with the condescending posts. I know the difference between the 2. Christ I worked for gaming companies for a decade. I know coders from Vancouver to Montreal. From Germany to Australia. We've been having conversations about where this cloud computing could go over the next few years.

I talk about where the cloud is headed... You come back at me with how it is now. I talk about how MS has backed down some on used games and how they will eventually back down on the daily check once hackers break open the system....and you come back with how steadfast they will be at launch with the daily connection which I never argued. I never doubted at launch that they would be tough there, but clearly on the used game front they have backed down some and could further if people keep pushing.

By the way I might have to reverse my plans in July. It looks like PS4 will be more available for pre-order then the Xbox. I'm hearing GameStop only got 9-15 per store compared to 40-60 for PS4.

You'd think MS would have more ready for launch after the severe limits with the first batch of 360's. Lesson not learned.

Was also hoping to skip ESO as MMO's are so time consuming....but damn it looks good and people at E3 are saying good things. Ugh...that's 4-6 months I will disappear lol.

'I wouldn't know what life is like on a nuclear sub'......and god help us you never will. Was an insensitive comment. I was hoping they were going to at least partner up with the military and do something to make it work for them. But I guess Sony gets to be the military choice.

Exact quote I was referring to. Truly a douchebag qoute. I'm proud to have turned one of my battle buddies away from the Xbox One today after he was pumping it up to me and another guy being a casual gamer not knowing this console is utterly useless to us.

I'm not being condescending. You are interpreting my posts that way, but I'm not condescending to you. If anything, the general theme of your off-topic replies--summarized as "you don't know what benefits the cloud brings, here they are"--is exactly what you complain about here.

You are only talking about how Microsoft is going to use the cloud for a topic that's entirely different from the one that was brought in the post that began this discussion. The post you originally replied to was concerned with what happens when Microsoft shuts off its Xbox One authentication servers; instead you talked about physics processing. It's interesting, but not relevant to the chain of discussion you entered, because the question was not how in 20 years games will process special effects, but how someone 20 years from now will play Xbox One games in the absence of the Xbox One authentication servers.

No one can know how the cloud will be used in 20 years, or even if there will still be a cloud in 20 years. Generally, big concepts in computing have about a decade lifespan before everyone moves on to the replacement big concept. But the idea that eventually Xbox One games will no longer be playable because the servers will be gone is a legitimate concern. Address that, not supplemental in-game processing.

Microsoft has not backed down at all, even though they fired Adam Orth for speaking their position plainly. Where are you getting this information that they're backing down? What statements to whom, where? Here's Phil Spencer to CVG:

"Definitive policy in black and white" is about as far away from backing down as one can rhetorically achieve.

Well in the process of keeping this thread from further devolving into a back and forth between us lets agree that you didn't get where I was going with that post and I could have been more clear about the fact that I meant cloud computing would be the bigger issue when servers were cut off whereas the daily check can be patched out.

And as far as the backing off part..considering folks were panicking that they couldn't trade in their games at all in this very thread and the previous one. The hard copy link of terms should help clear up a lot of the panic and is backing down compared to what folks thought back at the reveal. I do find it odd that while restricting actual box copies...they are taking the first step in the re-sale/passing off to a friend of digital copies.

    Lets change the topic now.

What's everyone's 3 must have games that look like they will be out that first year. I'm thinking Watch Dogs, Quantum Break (considering I got nearly 2TB's of tv shows on my drives....yah I find the fully filmed tv season that changes and unlocks episodes based on your choices interesting) and Infamous are my 3. Throw in ESO just so I have a PC game in there ;p

Watch Dogs, the Division, and Destiny. If any aren't in the first year, Infamous would replace them.

By the way Van, Watch Dogs is also a PC game.

Hmmm I'm curious as to why they force a mainstream publisher?

As far as the updates cost...that HAS to change purely because now they are allowing MMO's. MMO's get patched a lot. If they don't change that then ESO is pretty much DOA on Xbox One cause I can't see Bethesda paying out $10,000 for what will likely be weekly patches. We still got a lot of ways to go...but for the guys who got Xbox Live going....I do wonder where the support is for indies.

True that....are they releasing it at the same time as the 360/PS3 release or later on with the PS4/One release?

Also speaking of E3 winners. I think Ubisoft should get that title: WatchDogs, South Park, Division, Assassin's Creed, More Splinter Cell. Yeesh.

I'm still amazed that The Division is not coming to PC. That's a perfect PC type game. I guess Ubisoft doesn't want to spend money on the infrastructure to keep it running.

Oh well, we still have Assassin's Creed 4 and Watch Dogs.

PC on November 19th which is also the PS3 and 360 date. I can't answer about whether it will be same time as PS4/One. It may be.

The infrastructure shouldn't be a problem; servers are cheap nowadays. I suspect it's a "strategic" decision: While BF and CoD are very popular on consoles too, they completely dominate the PC market in terms of MP shooters. It's quite hard to get a foot in the door, and pretty much everyone who tried eventually failed quite miserably. Much, much easier to market the game as the "only true next-gen FPS".

That said, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them announce a PC version down the line. Just not quite yet.

While I don't doubt that might very well be their reasoning, I disagree with it. There's plenty of room in the PC space for a game that is not Military Guy vs Military Guy Online.

There is. But keep in mind that a Tom Clancy setting (even though they dropped his name from the title) spells commercial death in Europe - which, incidentally, is the place where you still sell PC games. I really don't see a market for this particular title in this particular genre on this particular platform.

He's a) not a household name and b) associated with pretty much exactly the type of right-wing American ideology many continental Europeans are quite weary of (I'm just paraphrasing, so no political jab intended).

I can't believe a person tired of "right wing American ideology" would skip on the chance to run through a virtual New York guns blazing. I also wouldn't say this game appeals to Americans because of Tom Clancy.

    Just seems odd to me.

    We're an odd people

I wouldn't put it quite that way, but I would say that Tom Clancy, as a marketing name, doesn't work in Europe anymore. Also, it's not that people over here are anti-American, so they'd relish the chance to go through New York guns blazing, it's rather a much more complex issue where people adore some core American ideals but, at the same time, loathe a certain political ideology. It's quite bonkers, in a totally sensible way.

Americans are the same. Increasingly more and more tv shows are being made in Toronto but either they are placeholders for another city or it's based here (they'll show the CN tower, use the street names and the surrounding city names) but they avoid saying Toronto. Why? Because they want to hook American viewers before they realize it's not based in the U.S. Flashpoint and Rookie Blue are 2 recently that have done that.

It's a bit misleading to say they're ****ing the military when they're (MS) laying it all out there long before the system comes out. It isn't like this is something people are discovering after buying the thing.

Tax incentives actually. But even the shows where the fiction is based in Toronto...they still don't say Toronto. Flashpoint, Rookie Blue. Orphan Black is another where I don't think I've heard them say Toronto...but they've used the suburb names.

It's one thing to use it as another location as Being Human uses Montreal for Boston, Alphas used Toronto as New York and Supernatural uses Vancouver as pretty much anywhere U.S.

Just find it weird when the show is literally based there in the fiction but they avoid saying the city name.

Americans, as a whole, don't like non American shows. We don't mind fantasy places, but we're not big on shows that aren't either set in America or about an American in another land. This may come as a shock, but we're pretty egotistical.......:wink2:

Unnamed and undated settings are common as hell in fiction when the information is irrelevant. Reservoir Dogs, for example, never tells you where it takes place. Though I've noticed that most of the top-selling video games will tell you exactly where it's taking place, while the more niche games are either fantasy settings or obscure that information. Call of Duty occurs all over the globe. Assassin's Creed is everywhere. Madden, FIFA, etc obviously take place in multiple cities. Fallout occurs in fictional versions of real cities/regions. Same with Battlefield.

So I'm with Alex, I'm not sure the age group most likely to play The Division would hold Tom Clancy/New York/America against the game.

It is laughable what they said, I agree. But just because something is useless to you doesn't mean the people who designed/made it ****ed you over. Not everything is made for everyone. You know something won't work for you, just don't get it.
