I meant in my post "shouldn't" not "should" Fink.....there are alot of Yankee numbers that shouldn't be....
Ok so if you call him up who do you remove from the 40 man roster? See it's not so simple as calling him up. You risk losing a player. And even if Wang does come up and pitches well I don't think that changes his trade value, which is probably extremely low. All 30 teams had a shot to sign him as a FA and passed during the year. A good start or two wouldn't change much. Big difference between Triple A and the MLB though. And yes his numbers might look good but his stuff, according to scouts, just don't believe it will be good enough to get by nor is he better than the pitchers the Yankees currently have up.
Without a doubt 51 will be retired. I agree Yankees went overboard retiring numbers. Roger Maris, Ron Guidry, Reggie Jackson are all numbers that should not be retired, but Bernie Williams should, and I think will. I mean look at when Ichiro went to the Yankees, he decided not to wear 51 because that number ment so much to the Yankees. Bernie was on of the best post season Yankees aswell. Bernie was part of the heart and soul of the New York Yankees in their 90's dynasty. Also Bernie Williams was a great Yankee then a lot of people who got their number retired, he deserves it
Also if you retire all these numbers, and then do not retire any yankee numbers from the 90's, imo its stupid. Unretire some of the old numbers, or do what Miami does and have some numbers in the Ring of Honor and others, Marino retired. I do think the next number retired is either Mo's, next season, or Jeters when he retires. But their is no doubt in my mind, Bernie will get his day, hes one of the home grown yankees, who played his whole career their. What other Yankee, other then Mo and Jeter that deserves it over him?
I know Bernie was a very good Yankee, home grown, won all of these titles etc but I don't know and maybe it's just me since I have high regard in terms of the HOF and getting #s retired but I don't think the Yankees really should. If they retire Bernies then why not Pettitte, Posada, O'Neil who you can all make solid cases for them too. It's a slippery slope really. Retired numbers should be for the truly great great superstar players like Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, Dimaggio, Jeter, Riveras of the world. Instead just give him a plaque in Monument Park, which is sort of like a Ring of Honor anyway. That way you honor the guy as being a Yankee forever. I'd be kind of surprised if they did retire his number though, you would think they would have done it by now as he's been retired for what 6 or 7 years already.
Look at Donny Baseball. Bernie is a fan favorite, other then posada Bernie is the only one to play only for the Yankees, and he was better then posada. Why punish him because you have to many numbers retired. Bernie was a greater Yankee ten Rogar Maris and Reggie Jackson. He deserves it Retired numbers should be not only for great players, but great great players who means a lot to an organization, Bernie was that, was he the greatest player ever? No, was he one of the Yankee greats, yes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There was a period of about 5-6 years IIRC where if you hit the ball to center field you were likely out. Bernie had speed, but it was long speed. Once he got going he could simply fly. Very effortless and a very underrated center fielder (defensively) IMO.
i liked Bernie Williams but IMO his career isn't one that warrants retiring his number. Maybe if he was a Royal or Brewer but I think you need to be somewhat more dominant. I am for giving him a plaque however
I agree. In my opinion you only retire numbers of legendary players. The Ruths, Mantles, Williams, Aarons, Mays of the world. Bernie was a very good player, but I just don't think he was quite good enough to have his number retired. It's not a knock on him by any means I just think guys that have their numbers retired and in the HOF should be the best of the best. He absolutely should have a spot in Monument Park though. There's no question about that.
You're contradicting yourself Spoiler i know Ted williams But Yankees already establish you don't need to be a hofamer. If Donnie Baseball has his number retired, no reason Bernie Shouldn't. I know you disagree but based on Yankees logic already, 51 being retired is not a stretch at all. Especially when ichiro turned that number down. No other Yankee has worn 51. Also look at 21. Yankees give that number away, fans booed that pitcher, next day he has a new number. Yankee fan don't forget Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Problem is if a player like bernie has his number retired think of all the future yankees that will have to have theirs. In fifty years we'll be out of numbers. We'll have to go three digits
First of nice with the spoiler thingy, well played. Second yeah I know the Yankees already established you don't need to be a HOFer. I was just saying in my opinion I would only retire the legends of the game. This is another reason why I don't think they should retire it. There already won't be any single digits handed out with Jeter and Torre's numbers getting retired.
Even though it benefited my team last night, I think the MLB really should change the called game rule. If the game starts it should be finished in its entirety at a later date. Who's to say the Yankees wouldn't have comeback (they wouldn't have obviously)? They lost, I believe, 7 games in the standings in 9 days to the Rays to get them to catch up. I think they might have rushed Teixeira back a bit. He hasn't played a game in 3 months then plays 2 minor league games and is recalled? No wonder why he went 1 for 9 with 7 Ks. As an outsider this Yankees line up right now just doesn't scare me, besides Cano, like they used to. Obviously injuries effect it greatly but those replacement players just aren't very good.
Draft preview folks.....it is on June 6th.... http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130603&content_id=49386950&c_id=nyy
Good you should be Hal.... http://sports.yahoo.com/news/hal-steinbrenner-disappointed-rod-004219616--mlb.html man I hope they suspend his stupid *** when he comes back.
Well obviously I was at work because Tex hit a grandslam! Nice! First granny for the yanks this season? Remember when they played the As and hit 3 grannys? You had to hide your grandmothers that game Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I hate the rule too! Also I think it should be 2-0 because the Sox got the 3rd run in the top of the inning that got rained out. Yanks never got an opportunity to bat so that inning should not count imo. Just like if it was 2-2, then top of 6 Red Sox score, and the game ended, they would finish the game at a later date to give the Yanks the opportunity to win the game
100 games wow....out for the season...... please please please.... is this technically Braun's first time tho? http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_...rodriguez-ryan-braun-part-miami-investigation
I just hope arod is it. Cano scares me with all the reports about him Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Also good job text. Hope he keeps this up! Of we hold on, he's been the reason we won the last two. Also phelps pitching great helped out a lot Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If Arod and cervelli are the only two yankees on the list, then I will be fine with it. Arod was not going to contribute anything anyway. Gives Yankees an out with him too!
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...-cano-danger-mlb-suspension-article-1.1363484 That calms me a little! hope its true
Just want equal treatment. Arod, Melky and Braun have all been busted before all three should get 100 game suspensions. The Yankee fan in me wants Arod banned because it would benifit the Yankees in so many ways. Selig will eventually retire and will want his legacy to end with being tough on cheating. I have a feeling Arod will take the brunt of this and be the face of the whole thing. I can actually see the other 19 players getting some kind of break and lighter punishment he is capable of ridding baseball of Arod.
MLB is going to argue that both Arod and Braun failed tests before therefore this is their 2nd time. I don't think they have a strong case with either, especially Arod since when he "failed" the test PEDs weren't illegal.
I guess now the founder has agreed to talk to MLB....offers of immunity is such a great thing.... http://ap.worldnow.com/story/22504898/ap-source-drug-clinic-founder-will-talk-to-mlb
Yup funny how America works sometimes. If you're the ring leader we will give you immunity to rat on the users. Makes sense right? Just another MLB witch hunt.
