Phelps have been coming a long very nicely for the Yanks, hopefully hes Okay. Granderson can't catch a break, neither can the Yanks. I hope it doesnt catch up with them soon.
Phelps is fine Granderson 4 weeks it looks like. Man guy can't catch a break at all. Gets hit by a pitch against Toronto and is out a couple of months and now the Rays hit him and he is out a month. Boston and Baltimore better be careful or there is a conspiracy going on
The parade of Yankees injuries continues as Granderson goes down again, just when several of his teammates, including Mark Teixeira, Kevin Youkilis, Joba Chamberlain, and Eduardo Nuñez, were preparing to join him on the active roster. Here’s a quick look at the Yankees who have hit the disabled list this season (not counting pitchers Michael Piñeda and Cesar Cabral, who also missed all of last season):

Player Injury G missed Due back

Derek Jeter re-broken ankle 47+ after ASB

Alex Rodriguez hip surgery 47+ after ASB

Mark Teixeira torn tendon sheath in wrist 47+ May 31

Curtis Granderson broken ulna, pinkie 38+ unknown

Kevin Youkilis bulging disc 30+ May 31

Francisco Cervelli broken hand 25+ late June

Joba Chamberlain strained oblique 24+ next week

Eduardo Nuñez strained oblique 17+ next week

Ivan Nova triceps inflammation 5* (active)

Andy Pettitte trapezius strain 1*+ June 2

Phil Hughes bulging disc 0 (active)

*starts missed http://mlb.si.com/2013/05/25/yankee...ers-another-broken-bone-via-hbp/?sct=uk_t2_a5
It sucks when we get players back, Jeter and Granderson, they get sent back a few games later. We are very fortunate to be in the position we are in
from same article as above..... The above list includes three of the Yankees’ four intended starting infieders (Teixeira, Jeter, and Rodriguez) as well as two of their replacement starters (Youkilis and Nuñez), their starting catcher (Cervelli, who hit .268/.377/.500 before having his hand broken by a foul ball), their home-run leader in each of the last two seasons (Granderson, who hit 84 homers in those two campaigns combined), and three-fifths of their Opening Day rotation (though that last one is a bit of a cheat given that Hughes didn’t miss a start and Nova was on the verge of pitching his way out of the rotation anyway). Twice this season they have had both members of their starting battery leave a game due to injury (Chris Stewart strained his groin in the game in which Pettitte got hurt and missed five games; Friday night was his first start since that game). Despite all that, the Yankees remain in first place in the American League East with the second-best record in the AL, a performance in which Granderson, who played in just eight games between DL stints, has had almost no part. I continue to doubt they’ll be able to keep this up much longer (third-order wins put the Yankees closer to .500 than .600), but it sure is fascinating to watch both the Yankees’ awful luck with regard to injuries and their remarkable ability to keep winning despite them, at least so far.
I think that has a lot to do with Cashmen. He has done a great job to fill the holes that needed to be filled with quality talent. Girardi has done a good job managing too
That game was crazy....Nuno solid start, then Boesche check swing double followed by Gardners single to tie it (all with 2 outs) followed by Ich's catch to save it (he was playing the guy perfectly), LO's jack to put them ahead and Mo with the 9 pitch save. He got it up to 92 as well....... Is the man really a human?
Great great win! I am telling you, this is the best Yankee team I have seen in a while with clutch hitting. They are never out of a game! Down 2 top of 9th with 2 outs and bam back in this game! Man I love this team this year! its something special!
He stole the base on defensive indifference anyway. It didnt matter if it was a balk or not because he still would have been on 2nd
it would be to much to ask for the Yankees to come back after a 8-0 deficit in the 9th, wouldn't it? edit: nope, 2 outs now! O well, still nice to see them not giving up in the late innings again. 8 runs was to much
Bit too early in the seasOn but I agree. This squad has won me over with their grit and pluck. I really though this mikght be a year we don't make the playoffs but this squad just refuses toi lose. Reminds me a bit of the 96 squad except this is only May. Hopefully we keep the grit and determination intO october. If we do, I think I'm going to like this squad for a long, long time
Yes it does matter, because Rodney wasn't comfortable on the mound after that, seeing as the motion he repeats over and over and over was all the sudden called illegal for one bull**** play. Obviously a more mentally strong individual wouldn't have to worry about that, but he is not. and that call got in his head. My comment had nothing to do with the guy being on 2nd or not.
Right but you are making it seem if it wasn't for a "bad" call the guy would have been on first when actually it didn't matter because he stole the base. Regardless of a call or no call Overbay was on 2nd base. As to being uncomfortable because he was worried about getting a repeat call I mean yeah sure you are right. But it isn't like he pitched bad Boesch and Gardner has seeing eye hits. Lucky actually. However that's baseball Suzyn!!!!
yeah you have to win that game last night.....I don't care however if Rivera blows every save left, the guy is so solid in my book.... Harvey is a boss.....throws so easy..... JT, Barry is back here for a few days, I told him about this site and he asked "Yeah he said something, how is he good kid?"
Mets knew what they were doing all all along having Mo throw out the first pitch, they were trying to get his pitch count up
made a New York Yankees Chrome theme for those who use chrome! https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/new-york-yankees/bjbpnlcnippaaiffninmkhndhamkdpgf
Well losing 3/4 (so far) to the Mets this team is fortunate The Boss is dead...... could this be the swoon everybody is waiting for??
Wells in April .300/.366/.544/.911 Wells in May .229/.260/.375/.635 Ichiro in April .268/.315/.329/.644 Ichiro in May .235/.261/.353/.614 Hafner in April .318/.438/.667/1.104 Hafner in May .190/.301/.317/.619 Overbay in April .241/.267/.446/.713 Overbay in May .261/.317/.489/.806 Gardner in April .252/.328/.398/.726 Gardner in May .274/.337/.453/.789 Cano in April .327/.379/.598/.977 Cano in May .255/.315/.461/.776 Obviously you wouldn't worry about Cano and possibly Gardner (although he is what he is) however the other 4 guys I think it's just a matter of their age/talent/playing everyday catching up to them and them playing a bit over their heads in April. Suddenly Cashman doesn't look like a "genius" anymore. I do think the Yankees have been winning a lot of games with smoke and mirrors so far this year, eventhough their pitching has been pretty good. So yes it could definitely be the swoon everyone was waiting for, luckily for the Yankees they do have Youkilis and Teixeira coming back. If they're healthy they can't be worse then the production the Yankees have been getting by their replacements thus far. Also don't look now but TB is slowly creeping up on everyone in the East. This thing is going to go down to the very end.
How big was the smile on your face writing that?? Hey I will contend that they will contend because of their pitching and BP.....just as good if not better than every team in that Division. As I said all along the Division isn't going anywhere, realistically they shouldn't ever be where they are and it says more about the other teams so far not playing at a high level or they just are what they are and not as good as people thought too..... It isn't like the Sox, O's, or TB are playing lights out ball...I will say though where was this O's lineup last year?
The smile on my face would be bigger if the lead for 1st place wasn't just a game. But none of those numbers really should be a shock to anyone. I mean there was a reason why Overbay was released during ST and before that had trouble getting a job, or why the Angels were glad to get rid of Wells. Sure they all had some nice games/weeks but I always said if you give them 500 plus at bats they're going to turn back into the players they really are. All 5 teams in the AL East (and baseball) have flaws, it's going to be a battle until the very end. I mean St. Louis and Texas are the two best teams in each league and if they were in the AL East, the Sox would only be 5 and 2 games out in L column. Even Toronto is slowly getting better. It's going to be a dog fight. And yes I absolutely underrated the Orioles' offense before the season started, mainly because who would have seen Chris Davis putting up 100 more points of OPS than Miguel Cabrera. But looks like I was right on their pitching so far. Whoever wins the East is going to be the team they stays the healthiest, plain and simple.
that's my point they have a stumble bum line-up who has got some clutch hitting in spots, but overall there stats and avg suck and they are 1 game out....kinda funny that the other teams dont have a bigger lead to be honest....but it is only June.... New York has to play well against their Divisional teams and besides the Red Sox they are... total record versus the Al East is 15-9
When are they going to retire Bernie Williams number officially? I assume 9/13 20something. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You think they will? Bernie was a very good Yankees but I don't know I guess I think the Yankees have gone a bit overboard when retiring numbers. I mean Roger Maris' and Ron Guidry's numbers shouldn't really be retired. And you know they will retire Jeter's and Torre's eventually, along with Rivera, so there won't be any single digit numbers left. I might just be overkill. But then again I'm one to only retire numbers of HOFers or special players.
yeah Bernie isn't getting his number retired.....it is overboard, teams tend to do that though, look at Pesky with the Sox.... I agree on Guidry...Maris samething.....
Perhaps I'm extremely biased because I was lucky enough to call Pesky a friend but I think he absolutely deserved to get his number retired. Besides being a pretty good player and was a part of the organization for over 70 years doing everything from a coach, announcer, scout, manager, advisor, etc. whether it was at the MLB level or the minors. Something like that deserves special attention. I do like how the Sox have strict policies when it comes to retiring a number though. I am surprised they don't bend the rules and retire Boggs'. That's a shame.
I guess yes for his extra work, but on the field I am not sure he was of the "retiring" number type.....I almost get the feeling that in years past retiring a number was like a good ole boy thing before the Hall was invented..... Alot of the Yankee numbers should be retired.... It would be comical if they retire Pesky's number but not Papi.....
Well according to the Red Sox retired number rules Ortiz won't get his number retired as the rules state you have to have played for the Sox for at least 10 years and/or go into the HOF as a Red Sox. Obviously they wavied it for Pesky and I do feel like they should waive it for Ortiz. Pedro, Boggs and Clemens also should have their numbers retired. Pedro is only a matter of time once he gets elected to the HOF.
According to scouts his stuff has been very meh in the minors despite his numbers. They don't think the stuff will be able to get MLB hitters out, which is why the Yankees haven't called him up already. And really Wang hasn't been a good pitcher since what the year he hurt his foot, maybe even the year before that?
Right but there is a slot that could be filled as Nova (who has actually been lights out since coming off the DL) and Phelps could benefit from either being at AAA or maybe a long man for a little....point is bring him up and try him out see what he has, at least maybe make it look like you are keeping him, who knows maybe it boosts his trade value... His stuff has to be somewhat okay though no Fink, he has been doing pretty well at the AAA level for several starts now....
