Nerlens Noel gets you that excited eh? Congrats none the less. But this feels like the Andrea Bargnani draft
He's pretty good. This is really an uninspiring draft. Trey Burke looks like the only all star type talent to me
Not sure I want Noel, no. I like Porter and Len personally which is why I would have not been bothered if we picked 3rd. I just know if we pick first, the Cavs will get the top guy on their board. It could even be Anthony Bennett for all I know. It's similar to the Dolphins taking Jordan, he wasn't my favorite player in the draft, but I'm ecstatic that the fins got their top player. Edit: And I'd love to get a guy like Lamarcus Aldridge at #1 (he went right after Bargnani).
Honestly I think you guys SHOULD be a playoff team next season. You may not get the next Lebron, Wade, Kobe, (Insert other top notch players) but you will at the very least get someone who should contribute a lot for you guys years to come and make that playoff push a reality.
Yeah he's going back to gloomy *** Cleveland. From Whitlock's "article"(if you can call it that) wut?
I know you are joking but holy crap if that's the pick Cleveland's scouts should all be fired.....kid made a mistake coming out this year.
Maybe they should. I like Waiters and all as a Syracuse fan but i can easily see McLemore being another Ray Allen. I know the Cavs need another big but the only big Id take that high is Cody Zeller who has a better post game and a legit offensive game on multiple levels. Noel is a better defender now but theres no guarantee his offense ever gets to the level where Zellers is.
While it's possible, I could just as easily see Waiters being better than McLemore, and McLemore being nothing like Ray Allen.
Ray Allen? When i watch McLemore play, the LAST thing i think is "future hall of famer". Btw, cleveland is snake bitten. Right before the best draft in a decade, they will use the #1 overall on a guy that will help them miss out on a top pick in that best draft in a decade.
^^ So much this! Only Dan Gilbert and his son Corky would be excited about having the #1 pick this year, and tons of pressure that comes with it with this crop of guys. I'm really hoping the Magic don't make any big moves this offseason (unless its to get rid of more bad contracts) so they don't improve. I really want them to have a pick in the top 3 NEXT year. IMO Outside pick for #1 is Otto Porter....he is better than Mac and Noel maybe be better down the road but he isnt even going to play until Xmas......no outside game either and is rail thin to be a 4/5 in the Association...... Porter can do everything....and do it well....
Next year's draft is strong beyond Wiggins though, Jabari Parker, etc. The Magic will be bad again, no doubt, but tough to count on the #1 pick. The Heat in 2008 is constructive here. We blatantly tanked most of that season, yet we ended up one ping pong ball away from Derrick Rose. And to compound the problem, we then made the worst possible choice at #2. You think the heat is unbeatable now, imagine if Riley had simply followed his gut instinct and taken Love or Brook Lopez, or if his lieutenants, including Spo, would have tried to talk him into Westbrook instead of talking him into Beasley. Hell, we would have even been better off with Mayo. That being said, I'd actually like the Magic to be good again. Shame that arena is being wasted right now after what the City spent on it.
I can't stand Gilbert, but give his kid a break. In fact, Nick Gilbert was the only person in that entire "Revenge of the Nerds" crew that Gilbert schleped along that had even an ounce of class and dignity after the Cavs won the lottery. The rest were hooting and hollering like it was happy hour at Hooters
I like Parker but Wiggins seems to be on another level. Not quite on Lebron's level I think but he's great.
It's funny - they'll have had 4 top 4 picks in 3 years in 3 very weak drafts. If you went back and re-drafted for them the last two years, is there a combo that really puts them much ahead of where they are right now? Kyrie / Kawhi / Drummond? Kyrie / Jonas / Barnes? Don't get me wrong - crazy lucky in their draft positions - but other than Kyrie, not a lot of game-changers available. Hard to re-create the OKC model when there isn't a Durant / Harden / Westbrook level player available. Give the kid a break, he's a 16 yr old kid with neurofibromatosis.
I was actually referring to the Emo looking one sitting next to Gilbert, who started jumping around like a girl when it was announced. I don't even know if its his kid, but he was all over Gilbert like he was. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Haha that's Machine Gun Kelly - he's a local guy and a fairly popular rapper (from what I understand - not much into hip hop.) I actually missed their celebration but heard it was fairly embarrassing. I love Nick Gilbert and the signature bow-tie is cool - but no idea why Dan Gilbert went full Craig Sager.
Wiggins is definitely a huge prize and you will see 2003 and 2008 level tanking next year. If Toronto shuts down Rudy Gay at the first sign of a minor injury you know tankapalooza is on. And if you think about it, doesn't Toronto have to get wiggins, the one superstar caliber player who might stay there long term? Could they dump Rudy Gay/DeRozan for nothing to increase their tanking?
I don't know if they could, but they definitely should. There's going to an epic amount of tanking next season.
The fact that rappers are on the side of owners when their draft slot is being determined acting like fools is why the NBA is polarizing, especially whack rappers....
This has been my problem with Toronto's moves - they're too good to really be in the lottery much longer, but don't have any assets / space to add anything to make them significantly better. They are relying a lot on Jonas and Jones to become much better than most people project them.
It's why Colangelo is out of a job. I liked the Rudy Gay move at the time because I didn't think Toronto could land a star caliber player any other way. But I did not realize Wiggins was from Toronto at the time. Really, the Raptors should have set themselves up to be epically bad this season, at least for the chance at wiggins.
I re-watched the celebration and it sounds like they were all screaming 'YEAH NICK' - so I wonder if it was more excitement because Nick Gilbert is supposed to the 'good luck' charm or not.
He's going to go wherever he has the best chance to win rings. Saying he's going to stay on a team he doesn't think can win just because of the beach is no different than Clevelanders saying he was going to stay there because it was his hometown. Not saying he won't stay in Miami - but if he does it will be solely for basketball reasons.
If it's for Basketball reasons, then this is basketball heaven. Best Basketball organization in the NBA. I think he looks at the whole package. and this whole package is really attractive.
As I've said before, presuming the Heat accomplish what they think they're going to accomplish in a month and again a year from now, there is absolutely ZERO chance that LBJ walks away from a chance at a 4-peat, which Michael and Kobe, and Magic and Bird, etc., all failed to accomplish. It would put him right at the top of the stratosphere. And I also presume that the Heat will continue to spend what is necessary to keep the team in top form.
I think he stays but it will be interesting to see if he opts out to get more money.....does he.... a) want a raise seeing that he will have won 2 rings in a row, going for a 3rd, and now is clearly not under Wade but rather it is his team....or.... b) does he play out through 2016 on his original contract..... Section interest in hearing your opinion on this....you think he wants more money after next year and opts out? Again I dont think he leaves either but pay raise?
He'll have just won 3 in a row after next year, presuming all goes well the next 13 months. Heat will be able to give all 3 the max, but then the bench would be all minimum guys. We'll likely amnesty Miller this off season which would ease the tax burden, and if Cole continues playing well, it is possible we could package a reasonably priced Chalmers along with Anthony or Haslem to shed some additional salary while not giving up a ton personnel wise. The need for lower cost pieces is why I'm confident the HEat will be buying a pick in the latter portion of round 1 and drafting Hardaway, Jr. or someone of that ilk.
