Because Broward would have to spend $2B to build a new stadium. If Miami can't spend $400M, Broward certainly can't spend 5X as much.

How do you think you grow industry and and bring corporations to your cities? Companies want subsidies....tax benefits....loans. You think South Florida striking down Steve Ross makes people want to come to Miami? You can't even take care of the billionaires you have...why would new billionaires and millionaires come here? Really?

And stop throwing out these baseball stadiums that are the same price as the parking lot in Jerryland.

Early votes aren't the whole story, they aren't a reliable indicator.

you honestly telling me you have faith in the south Florida voter on this topic, as a region, they don't even give a sh&$ about their team enough to show up to their games, why should I be optimistic about this?

I really don't know who's to blame anymore for this epic fail.

No, I'm saying you can't blame the public for something they didn't vote on.

I'm wondering why Ross came out the day after the Florida politicians shut down the funding, and said hes gonna give away a billion dollars. Why didn't he spend half that on his stadium and then reap the profits ? I haven't heard one thing in the news about this, it just makes him look more foolish. He could personally help the local economy and gain some good press and with a couple future superbowls made a lot of that money back

As far as the team goes, I'm going with H. Wayne Huizenga. The Parcells hire was a disaster. Ross's hands were tied for 2 years.

As far as the stadium goes, it's on our beloved Joe Robbie who opted for a dual purpose stadium instead of trying to duplicate the home field advantage of the OB.

Now it's on Ross, Ireland and Philbin to turn it around. I could care less about Super Bowls. If the team can get back to competitive in the division the stadium will fill up with Dolphin fans because Miami does garden parties like no other city in the country.

Jeff Darlington reports that Ross is in exploratory discussions to move team to PBC, or broward..

Ross says he did everything he could, more than any other has before in the deal he presented, says he will look to some other people to help with the funds..

Miami residents, there's a chance your gonna lose this team if you keep showing your ***, better show up loud and proud and put up a fight.

Ross offering to pay 70% and offering the area a no risk deal on the other 30, never gonna get that kind of deal again..

We got shut out for the next two, is it not sign enough that the NFL gave it to Houston who already has hosted one recently, and how their risking a cold weather one just to reward NYC..

Gonna need to get back in the rotation, somehow someway, or this path is gonna get worse.

I'm sorry but who gives a flying f**k if the city of Miami loses the team so long as they stay in South Florida? Of course I say that as a resident of Broward County not Miami/Dade.

Oh side note: Profanity wasnt directed at you DJ, just to put emphasis on the fact that ANY new stadium or deal that keeps this team down here long term is good.

The city of Miami, Greater Miami, Anyone who invests in that area aroound where the stadium is built, Political figures who's decisions may have resulted in the decision for Miami to leave the city.

As fans it doesn't really matter. But there are people who have a vested interest in the location of the team.

Since I live in Miami-Dade County, I obviously would prefer that the team stay here. I also realize that Ross, or whomever the next owner is will continue to try and get public funding to either renovate the existing stadium or to build a completely new stadium.

I don't ever see the voters in this county approving public funding for the stadium. Unfortunately there just aren't enough voters in this county who are fans of the Dolphins. The fact the team is located in Miami-Dade, yet the majority of the season ticket holders live in Broward County, says all that needs to be said in regards to the limited fans the team has in the county it plays its games in.

I think that eventually the Dolphins will have to relocate to another county if they want to get the money from public funding to build a new stadium. As long as the team stays within a 150 radius of where I live, I will continue to purchase season tickets and I would have no problem driving to their regular season games to watch them play. If they decide instead to move the franchise to another city, in another state, my days as a Dolphin fan would simply end. I have no desire to root for a team which would no longer represent the South Florida area I live in.

I would love to see Palm Beach become the Dolphins new home, if this meant they would stay in South Florida for many years to come. It is just too bad that the politicians in Miami decided to build a stadium for an owner and a baseball team that few fans have any interest in going to watch. If only they had given this money to the Dolphins, an organization which has been a valuable asset to this community for nearly fifty years. This would have made much more sense and it would have resolved the stadium issue for the Dolphins for the next thirty plus years.

Instead we have a brand new baseball stadium for an owner few people in Miami want to support. Many people want to blame the voters of Miami-Dade or the politicians in Tallahassee for this latest rejection of public funding for Dolphin stadium. In reality it was the vote of the locale politicians a few years ago to fund the new Marlins stadium and the uproar after the vote approval which ultimately led to the failure of the Dolphins bid to get public funding for stadium renovations. Because of this uproar after the Marlins decision, Miami-Dade politicians no longer are willing to fund stadiums without voter approval.

Voters in Miami-Dade, because most of them are not Dolphin fans or even football fans, are not likely to vote in favor of granting the Dolphins tax payer money to renovate the stadium. I don't blame Ross for looking at other options. I just hope that when a new stadium is eventually found for the Dolphins, it is located somewhere in the South Florida area.

The voters of Dade Co. got screwed by the Marlins and Heat into financing new facilities for them. Particularly the Marlins facility screwed them the most. The timing of Ross trying to get money, even if it were a loan and not a taxpayer gift, was prohibitive in getting a positive vote, even IF the vote hadn't been pulled out from them (that's another issue).

The Fins followers, particularly us old timers remember the days that Joe Robbie financed and built JRS on his own. Yes, there are tax incentives, but there was no upfront public money involved in building that stadium. Whether or not the followers of the Fins reside in Dade or Broward or Palm Beach county, it's in their BEST own interests in getting these other bigger venues (SBs and such) because it's a boon to all of the local businesses. The first SB in JRS, I know of a food service business based in Miami, near the Maimi airport, owned and operated by locals that did more business in the week of the SB than they did in rest of the year... The hotels, the restaurants, shops all benefit by these events. Lets not forget the South Beach businesses that boom during those events... The opponents of the proposal by Ross really don't care about the small businesses benefits, all they care about is political gain. For years, the SFL (all three counties) has been run by small time politicians in a small time way...It's time the voters woke up...

But as you said, that is unlikely to happen and the window of opportunity is closing on the community being able to keep the team there.

The current stadium is a quarter mile from broward already. Who gives a damn if they move a little north....

I would estimate that about 25 to 30,000 people care in the Miami area, which isn't good enough when your playing in the worst venue for excitement, it's a double negative affecting the culture.

Did anyone see Ross's response, he said he was now gonna have to get some local help, I'm wondering what he meant by that?

They just raised 700,000 for charity. Why not throw a few golf tournaments, fishing tournaments, and other fund raisers for a new stadium.

I doubt Broward is interested. I look for Miami Dade to make a push at something one more time after getting pressured by the local Businesses and Hotels.

  24. The owners and the NFLPA should vote on if a city needs a new stadium and if both sides say yes. Ross should pay for 60% and the other 40% should come from the players union. Leave the tax payer out of it. It is a multibillion dollar business. They don't need corporate welfare to build stadiums. If they want to leave I will wave goodbye to them and find another sport to support with my money.

Depends on how long they take to renovate. I think I remember Dee saying there was a point in time where renovations would no longer make sense because they'd end up costing in the ballpark of a rebuild.

Easier to raise money for charity as people are trying to bury some tax income. Can't write off investment capital as easy.

Other sports get public funding to build their stadiums too. If this is your line in the sand, you might need to quit watching sports.

what do you mean, does he expect that there will be more upgrades needed in 8 to 10 years, if so, then it makes more sense to rebuild the ob2.

I'm not really sure what he meant because he didn't get into specifics. He spoke on windows of oppurtunities to actually do a renovation and that now a renovation was able to be done, but that years down the line, that renovation window would be closed. I don't know if that means in 5 years there will be 10 other things that will need to be renovated in addition to these items or if it was something foundational that has a timeline on it. I'm thinking maybe this renovation could be the first big in renovation in a line of successvive renovations. Like I said, he didn't elaborate but he did say (This was during his discussion on that radio show where he discussed the plan for like 30 minutes) there was a specific window for getting the renovation done before options like getting a new stadium might be better options.

That's right but I'd bet they could raise 200,000 easy and that's about what they're looking for.

The real problem with it is that people who might contribute huge chunks would probably want a return as in investing.

Simple math for all those who continue to spew such BS about the economy being only mildly affected by such an event of this magnitude..

Just take the hit cause your mentality is part of the reason why this culture will continue to deteriote.
