Encouraging news about Egnew, but we'll see. Very pleased to see Philbin trying to maximize each player's talent by moving them around. Watching a year's worth of film of Jared Plodrick trying to pass rush from End may have helped Philbin try him inside. It may also speak to a long term vision of Dion Jordan at End, not OLB even on run downs.
Only if we wait til late in the season to try to extend him. I would hope we only wait to see how his health is by week four or five, then extend him if he has healed well and has no lingering issues.
Ya done real good there. Both names correct. The Cincinnati Kid never lets me down. BTW, does it bother you when people misspell Cincinnati? I've seen it spelled 2-3 different ways here on the forum. It would bug me if I was from there.
Good boy reshad...bad reporting by Omar.. My favorite quote.. "This is a really young team. Everyone has a college mentality....We're young and hungry," Mike Wallace said." Like that ohilbin thinks Egnew has earned reps, means he's noticed the commitment and changes..good boy.
Nah, it gets misspelled enough I'm used to it. The abbreviation "Cinci" bugs me though. Most everyone from Cincinnati uses "Cincy" (as I do) even though the correct postal abbreviation is "Cinti". The worst is people who pronounce it Cincinnata.
Surprised that didn't get more eyebrows. RG battle could be interesting...especially if Louis becomes a factor late in camp with his recovery.
I like Baby Squid, for me he showed explosiveness and a knack for playmaking last yr even with playing for Shannon at the U who notoriously did not develop players on his team. His ankle flexion impresses me as does his power and motor, hand placement and durability is my concern with him, decent first step last yr want to see if working with Wake ups his game or if that is just offseason lip service from Wake and Co.
Indeed, an interesting adjustment. The irony here is that last year even though Ryan Tannehill had the worst downfield accuracy among the top QBs coming out of the draft, he had one of the best accuracy percentages according to PFF as a rookie. And this after having practiced with the shortened field.
There are indications that waiting until next off season is exactly what Grimes wants. He wants to prove he's healthy then collect a big deal.
This is all CBA BS. There is nothing about the new CBA that makes me think players are first and foremost interested in becoming better players and having better teams. Much of what they pushed for had to do w/ time off, rest, etc. They bye weeks are really a joke other than rest and rehab; there is hardly any more practice time when compared to a regular week. Hell, you could argue that the time off hurts players performance more than it helps.
so you think grimes is a full go tomorrow as well ? this is always the problem with injuries like that, how will they respond over night, swelling, soreness, i think if he is a full go all 3 days, we can probably say we got a steal, which would also give much more confidence regarding to kobe bryant's injury and the outcome
OTA´s Tidbits Not sure if its been posted: From Barry Jackson "@flasportsbuzz: Lamar miller opened with first team. Martin and incognito and pouncey and clabo and jerry were starting o line" I assume Jerry at Guard and Clabo at RT but the order makes me wonder.
Great to hear Grimes is out there already!! Would love to know weight #'s on Yeatman, Martin, Jerry and Vernon.
Semi-significant developments that intrigue me: 1. Jared Odrick working at DT. If it were just about Randy Starks' absence then they'd have a young guy like Vaughn Martin or Kheeston Randall step in. I think this move has significance. 2. Will Yeatman playing guard and Joe Philbin declaring he's competing for a starting position. It's now a story. Philbin already praised Yeatman, unbidden, in I think it was an interview about his experience at Harvard. Something like that. He's now showing those weren't just words. 3. Brent Grimes turning heads and looking athletic. Going to be a nice, albeit one year signing. 4. Michael Egnew working 1st string in 2-TE sets, and Philbin using the words "planned" and "earned" to describe the bump. He's either trolling the fanbase who demand Egnew's head on a pike, or he's genuinely impressed with the efforts Egnew made in the off season to get better. 5. Jamar Taylor just had hernia surgery. Blech. All else doesn't really interest me much.
at BPK double parking with his signature. Killin' me with that thing, Barry, especially when you back to back post. lol.
I expect he'll be cleared to participate pretty soon. Within the month sounds right. But that's not what I'm worried about. I'm worried that it might still be affecting him after he's cleared. I think some people are expecting a fair amount out of him as a rookie. The big part of the reason Mike Sherman said that Egnew ended up sitting the whole year was because he got behind very early in the process and once you fall behind early it because difficult to catch up. You don't want Taylor to fall behind early. Also, between the high blood pressure which has seen him on medication since high school, the resulting loss of kidney function detected at the Combine, and now a hernia...I mean damn Jamar, seems like pretty soon parts are just going to start falling off him.
from what I've read about hernia surgery, as I have one at the moment, your recovery is usually no activity for the first 2 weeks. Small activity for the next 2, and the last 2 you can step it up a bit more, but you don't go full throttle for six weeks.
Depends on where the hernia is, but thats def on the money. I had one on the right side of my pelvic area. I was out 6 weeks, went back to playing tackle football the friday of the 6th week. Was running after 2/3 weeks. No lifting till 6 also.
More clarity. Barry Jackson reports that Jamar Taylor had surgery in Philadelphia TODAY for a sports hernia. Recovery is expected to be 4 to 6 weeks. Should be fine for training camp. Doesn't sound like he's going to be full at that mid-June OTA.
Tomorrow we found out if Grimes has a quick turnaround on his recovery, if someone else is practicing we'll know what they think about where he is at.
Here are the transcripts to the post-practice press conference: http://dolphinsmedia.tumblr.com/post/51011431359/miami-dolphins-quotes-joe-philbin-5-21-13
Here's a great point by Philbin: This helps us attract UDFAs and FAs who have a choice of where to sign, and want to make sure they get a real audition in camp.
Me likey.. Also like that Philbin mentioned he's seen some physical changes in Tannehill, he needed to get quicker, faster..I think he did by dropping about 7 lbs.
Pat Kirwan states, "we got two steals in Clabo and grimes.." Says Clabo is a very good player, tone setter, nasty, and real good. Loves grimes from watching him in falcon practice.. Tim Kirwan thinks Dion Simms is a good p,Ayer on tape, Says Ryan is going to need 1 more year of development, so we should be patient with him. Likes the long term view of replacing Dansby and Burnett.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed Grimes holds up. If he does, it wouldn't surprise me to see Ireland give him an extension before next offseason. RE: Taylor, I'm not concerned. I think he'll be fine by the time training camp rolls around.
The only concerns I have right now is not the talent we have, but whether some of these medical issues are gonna continue to be positive with Grimes, Keller, Marshall, Dallas Thomas and now Taylor... Additionally, will the hold ups with some of the youngsters (Thomas and Taylor with injury, Jordan with the college issue, etc) hold back their development to the point that we don't get much in the way of contributions with these guys this year... We've seen the issue with guys getting behind because of either situation and not showing much in their rookie seasons over and over again... Unfortunately, even with the youth of the overall squad, some of these guys we'll need to contribute to be as successful as we want to be... Funny thing, I was just thinking that the OL development really hinges on Martin at LT, something we have said about Long for the last two years, but because of injury...finally there is enough talent throughout the OL that LT isn't the most important position in holding back the OL, yet...it is...
