Sorry, Dee. Not only did you and Ross burn your bridges with your temper tantrums, but the presumptive next two Speakers of the Florida House wanted nothing to do with your bill. You are locked out of the Florida legislature for a foreseeable decade.

Ross and Dee have both shown to have very unorthodox, confused, bipolar strategies.

From hey let's let them know that I have billions of dollars and I can play a role into "fixing the dysfunction in Tallahassee".

To, oh nevermind we might ask for tax dollars again in November.

Oh well, don't care for Sun Life Stadium but if this brings a 30 year agreement to stay in Miami then I'm cool with that. Get it done.

Hopefully next time when who ever the Speaker comes across it again he will think about the impact as far as the job market goes rather than the comments made by Ross and Dee.

This is setting up nicely for a Miami-Dade contingent to carry the torch the rest of the way.

They're both morons. In my 20 years of being a Phins fan Dee might be the most inept figure in the front office's history. Everything he touches turns into a turd. Don't even get me started on the pathetic and embarrassing Gator Day fiasco that Dee and Nat Moore, another moron, planned. This is the reason our football team is the way it is. Look at the idiots that are leading us.

So as far as I can tell, three questions remain.

    1) was the rant wrong, and a firable defense?

    2) was the rant justified with a purpose to inspire a passive fanbase?

    3) did the rant make it impossible for the referendum to get passed for a vote?

No, Ross probably told him to say that.

I'm guessing you think this is a set up to move the team. I think because of the ownership of the stadium, that is virtually impossible. Ross has already lost the revenue the Marlins gave him, and then he's going to pull the Dolphins out too ? Not happening.

Then I'm missing the purpose. They could have only infuriated Weatherford. So can y'all clue me in ?

easy. Same reason politicians use rhetoric. To incite people into action. To get the people behind them. If enough people get upset and believe that Weatherford is the only reason this didn't pass, and that they are unfairly hurting the dolphins, then it puts political pressure on him.

They have to blast Weatherford WHILE building a stronger public opinion in favor the measure for when they try it again.

They need (and are) to make this about a good man trying to keep the team and city relevant when an evil politician kept the people form making the decision themselves.

Its funny to me, that in all the things to get upset about in this whole snafu...people are ignoring the fact that Weatherford was basically paid to support this, then someone else paid him more to kill this....but instead people are upset that Dee & ross were pissed they got screwed over.

You really think Weatherford cares about fans in South Florida ? What pressure ? He's a central Florida redneck / [MOD EDIT] that doesn't give two craps about what happens here, and probably took extreme pleasure at sticking it to those sin-city people in "My-am-ah".

I don't see how anything we do can put an iota of pressure on him, he's not beholding to taxpayers and voters here, in fact I'll bet his constituency is giving him a pat on the back for hurting the Dolphins.

Thats ridiculous. He's a politician that has aspirations. He wants to run for state office. Having South Florida hate you is not good for that. Having 32 of the richest men in the world hate you is not good for a political career.

But the power to make this happen is Weatherford, so he might be making a case and all, but it won't change anything at all. The renovations will only get done if Weatherford allows this and I think due to what they have done the last couple of weeks, he'll make sure its killed in the next session if it comes up again.

So if Ross purpose is to make him look like the good guy - okay he makes himself look good, again, so what. Still won't get done unless Tallahassee allows it.

whether or not it's effective, or how effective, isn't really the issue. You asked why he was doing it, I told you, why he was doing it. And just his constitutes aren't his only problem. If he hurts other candidates he has to work with, it hurts him.

You really don't understand politics at all. If public opinion is strong enough, Weatherford will not be able to kill this again without committing career suicide, which he may have already done by pissing off Ross.

I don't think that's the reason, I think he did it to protect Tampa's chances over Miami of getting future Florida SB's.

The whole notion that Weatherford wields so much power that he can single-handedly stop something is ridiculous. There are plenty of ways to get things on the floor that the speaker does not want.

Who else is he hurting ? The Miami-Dade legislative contingent was for it. Weatherford's power is not threatened in any shape or form from anything in South Fla. You guys can sweep it under the carpet, but the hatred around the state of Florida for anything that has to do with Miami is real. I am certain he got more than one email & phone call praising him for shafting Ross.

Really ? So just ignore the truth ? Why do I have to be PC. It's the way I feel. I've got most of my family in Brooksville, Orlando and Rockledge. They & their friends all hate Miami, and make fun of Miami, any and every chance they get. I have personal experience with them.

    From Weatherford.

" “The feedback from Miami-Dade was negative and there were concerns expressed by members on both sides of the aisle,” Weatherford said. “It’s not the fault of the Florida Legislature that Dolphins’ management failed to win legislative approval to force taxpayers to upgrade Sun Life Stadium after paying for a local referendum. Some would call that putting the cart before the horse.”

Whats he saying here?? that he felt that the residents from miami dade were not in big favor of the renovations?

Could that be the reason he denied it?, which in turn would flip this back on the fanbase for not supporting the movement over the last 6 months..?

I understand completely, and I do think Ross will make sure his opponents have many resources as they want in future elections. But I also think Mr. Brahman will be helping Mr. Weatherford with money he needs too. So that will probably be a wash.

Again, public opinion will not sway this man. He doesn't have to care about voters and PO in South Florida. We do not vote for him unless he tries for statewide office, and even then it's likely he gets elected even without support from Miami-Dade.

Then Ross needs to examine his lobbyist, and the person that hired him. I am guessing that is Mike Dee.

Most of the last polling I saw from TV stations said it would pass 55-45.

Even so if the election was not costing the taxpayers anything, why not still allow the vote ?

He's not beholden to just himself and his whims. There is plenty of money that will affect Weatherford and many of his allies. Some of that starts with what Ross is doing. You act like Weatherford is an untouchable rock who is an island unto himself and is omnipotent....he is none of those things. I'm not even saying Ross' attempt will work, but you wanted to know why they were doing what they're doing, and this is why.

This is ridiculous. Stephen Ross has some of the best political consultants working on this. Ashley Walker, Eric Jotkoff, and Michael McKeon among others. These are people that have experience running presidential campaigns. Mike Dee isn't hiring lobbyists.
