Well then he won't make money from hosting SB's or college championship games - his loss.

Then he gets it as a personal loan.....very easy to do when you own the team and the stadium.

Only if he puts up equity in the team as collateral, which the NFL prohibits.

Well how about the Dolphins put a winning product on the field. That is something they have only done once in the last 7 years I believe.

Not only is this tin foil territory, but it's an outright lie. Marlins NEVER opened their books.

Ross had to take out a loan and pay Huizenga in three installments to buy the team.

Sorry to say this but stop acting like a little whiny *****. The Dolphins have been around for almost 50 years and the fans have been going to those 1pm games forever.

Can someone please explain to me how Ross will benefit more than the local economy/workforce from the stadium upgrades?

Part of it is steeped in the redneckedness of the state of Florida. Most of the legislators are from parts of the state that, frankly resent, and hate Miami and anything to do with it. They take pleasure in telling "them high-faluten city folks" what's what.

You guys can laugh all you want at that analogy, but it smacks more of the truth that what you might want to believe.

Now wait a minute, Schmo, I'm usually with you on most of this but I draw the line here.

The Marlins are a totally different case. I don't think even a winning team right now would fill that stadium. The people literally LOATHE the Marlins owner, and many of them (including former season ticket holder myself) will not go to any games, EVER until that bastard Loria sells or dies. I will satisfy myself with watching the game on TV and refuse to buy any Marlins gear or anything Marlins related until that glorious day that I will dance in the streets when Loria is gone.

No he did not know the situation with the Marlins would happen the way it did.

Either way I'm still confident this will pass. Ross is a smart guy.

Oh Finnasty don't be so obtuse.

Well you open your web browser to google, and put in your rep's name and it should give you his/her office phone in Tallahassee and locally in whichever district you live in.

Look getting the World Cup will not depend on this. That is a national process and even if the upgrades are done there is ZERO promise of anything yet. Did Ross sign contracts to bring these events to Miami contingent on the renovations ? If there had, there might have been more motivation to do this, but so far its nothing but promises.....we saw how much that got us with the Marlins & Jeffrey Loria.

I have gotten at least one, every day for the last 2 weeks. On Wednesday, I got 4 different ones. I thought it was a bit of oversaturation and was starting to turn me off.

DJ you need to get over blaming the fans on this. Blame the Republican dominated Florida State House for this not even getting to the voters.

I think it's hilarious that Ross supports the RNC and RP in Fla and probably contributed to a number of the campaigns and then got this as political payback. When you sleep with the devil......

I don't think this is a partisan issue. I've seen both democrats and republicans opposing/favoring this.

1st off, they have agreed to do it, that's why there was a bill in the legislature.

2nd it's not on anyone in South Fla right now, its on politicians in redneck places such a Trailerhassee, and Jahickyville that are holding up the process. I really do believe they get a ton of pleasure knowing they can **** us in "that damn sin city of Miam-Uh". They hate us, always have and always will.

Why wasn't the Marlins deal put into the hands of the state legislature?

There you are completely WRONG. The Marlins deal is based on money from a bed tax collected on hotels on the Island of Miami Beach. Hotels in Miami Beach, Sunny Isles, Golden Beach, Bal Harbour, ect, are what is going to pay for the Marlins deal. The AAA deal I have no idea about but the Marlins stadium IS NOT taken from the general funds, and never will be.

Now the Adrienne Arsht Center, that's another story.......

This is just patently false. If the bed tax doesn't raise the $2B, the deficit comes from the general fund:

And that was all because Arison and Huizenga were in a peter measuring contest about who's team would be # 1 and get priority. So they couldn't agree like adults and acted like the spoiled rich people they are and each got his own stadium.

That my friends is why the Dolphins are having trouble right now.....if they could have shared a building in say Broward County, then Miami-Dade would have had enough to probably build the Marlins stadium & Dolphin renovations easily.

But because Arison & Huizeinga were brats it didn't happen.

actually there WASN'T. There was only 1 public meeting held before the vote, and that was allowed to be packed by the Marlins, because it was only announced 1 day before the meeting was held. There was no time to organize any kind of opposition and time to lobby the politicians.

No the Marlins had books to present if asked for...and they were cooked. The politicians though never asked them to do it - very stupidly.

How in the world could you know this? The Marlins were asked and refused. If they had cooked books the logical thing would be to turn them over. Tin foil hat stuff.

Well he gets the revenue from every ticket sold, every drink sold, and every parking pass sold.....he receives it all, as much as he can (he does have to give the league and visiting team some %'s too). But he actually makes more revenue than most teams do, because they don't own their stadiums as he does, and probably have to share their stadium generated income with the counties & cities that built the stadiums.

Who shares their revenue with counties? How much???

Dolphins also offered ownership of the stadium to the county.

The Marlins deal, as you call it was originally passed in 2002, well before any Marlins stadium was formally proposed. That money has been collected for years and years now, and has been paying for things like the renovation of the Miami Beach Convention Center, and the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Perfoming Arts.

Bingo. With this not going through Ross is probably going to scale back on spending. Try to earn what profits he can over the next few years and sell when he can find a sucker to take on the cost of the team + debt. And that owner is going to turn around and demand a new stadium. Things are going to get real interesting over the next 5-6 years where the Dolphins are concerned. And the NFL doesn't bs. They will not give Miami another Superbowl until the place is renovated and Ross surely isn't going to renovate it all himself. He can't really with the Dolphins current debt level & NFL rules concerning it.

Actually he's president of MLSE. Which means he's the president of the Leafs, Raptors, Marlies and Toronto FC. Along with the venues: Air Canada Centre, Ricoh Coliseum, BMO Field, Mastercard Centre and The Real Sports bar and own a bunch of tv stations. It's a 2.25 billion enterprise and the kings of the Toronto sport scene in North America's #3 market (After New York and Mexico City). So it's not really that huge a downgrade (AEG couldn't get buyers to hit the $8 billion it wanted and some have painted the value of AEG at just above half of that). He may also be the man they brought in to eventually set the stage for NFL in Canada even though he couldn't get it to work in L.A.

Wonder if Ross is looking for his donation money back?

How much did he waste on this effort that was brought up at the worst possible time?

Jeez man, wait until you start winning and get people excited and behind you. There was almost no public support for this which made it easy for politicians to kill

Would be really sad to see the cloud of relocation hang over this franchise for years. Ross is a much better owner than Huizenga IMO. I could imagine if this team was bought by someone like Jeff Loria :pity:

In hindsight, perhaps we should have gone in with the Marlins on a new stadium. Instead, they got the park, and we got them out of our's. So even with the best seats in the house, you'll feel like your behind the center field wall. Lots of real estate between yourself and the action. Look at it this way though, It's staying in its Joe Robbie form.

Oh well...... Just win baby. Season tickets should cost the same for years to come than. I'm sure the hot dog will hit $10 soon though.
