Michael Clay, at his Pro Day:
Dates: 03/14/13
Height: 5113
Weight: 230
40 Yrd Dash: 4.73
20 Yrd Dash: 2.74
10 Yrd Dash: 1.70
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 23
Vertical Jump: 31 1/2
Broad Jump: 09'06"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.18
3-Cone Drill: 6.86

His cone time would have been 3rd best at the combine, and his shuttle time would have tied for best among linebackers.

Is there a list of the UDFA's we signed?

4. REALLY?? You make a comment about cutting one of the best backups in the game to make room for a player that has less than 0% chance of making the 53 on ANY team, and then complain because he tells you to put down the pipe?? He was being KIND!!! If anyone makes a statement around here with that level of ignorance attached they WON'T get away with it. SOMEONE will call them out on it. You had to know that when you made it. Add a "sarcasm", or "humor" tag and your ok. Otherwise there are those who will think you were actually serious.

I really like this Kovacs kid, really hard worker, 100mph every play.
I had some Michigan tape so did a cut up of him, sorry it's in 2 halves.
Kovacs is the safety, #32
Check out #8 too, he caught my eye. That's JT Floyd, a senior cornerback who came out this year and went undrafted, but as far as I know, hasn't been picked up.

What you need to know about him and why he hasn't signed with anyone: He ran a 4.79 at his pro day.

Ah right, this would make sense.
But as an UDFA, surely someone would take a flier on him.

He did have a 36" vert and 10'4" broad though, which are very good and indicate some lower body explosion. Maybe he just does not run well for time on a track.

FWIW, Brandt ranks our list of UDFA signings as the 5th best in the NFL, based on his own rankings. He seems keen on Clay Belton in particular.

Also of interest, he says there were about 20 teams looking at signing Don Jones as a UDFA before we took him in the 7th, which to me says that we made a shrewd move in using our 7th round pick on him.

Some sites, including nfl.com, show us signing WR Chris Denton, Mount Union, along with Jasper Collins. Some sites show him as signing with Tampa Bay.

I like Bumphis and Collins, both look like a good fit to replace Bess as primary slot guy!

I saw some Mississippi St. games last season and liked what i saw from him! I still don't know why he wasn't drafted at all, he played in the SEC and had a good season overall with 58 receptions, 922 yards, 15.9 ypc and 12 TD's!

It also looks like he is a good person, playing with a chip on his shoulder, just like Davone Bess...!

I really don't understand why we gave away Bess, especially for next to nothing. I saw Bess almost exactly the same as Wes Welker before we traded him to the Pats, did he fall out of favor with Philbin? Did he cost so much we saw an opportunity to replace him with a low cost rookie? How on Earth do we know with any certainty that a rookie will give us the level of production we got from Bess?

Was it the lack of TD's? That I can understand, but what guarantee do we have the replacement will catch more TD's?

I am sorry for Bess that we sent him to the Browns, if he'd gone to the Pats I truly believe he'd become another Welker. I will root for Bess every game he plays except when the Browns play us.

I think his cap hit vs his production was too off as someone pointed out in another thread. It was better to flip him for something right now rather than wait a year and let him go for nothing.

Ahh, good point, forgot he only had a year then could have become a URFA, though I still feel we didn't get what he was worth, we should have gotten an additional pick IMO even if it was a third day pick, just to swap positions in two rounds just doesn't seem enough value for what Bess is capable of.

I think the TD count is more of a fan thing.

I heard Bess did complain a bit and that may have been part of it. I also think that Austin was the target all along so that got them thinking about replacing Bess. I doubt they felt they would be willing to meet his salary demands next season so it was probably a matter of either getting something for him now or nothing next year. And if he wasn't in the long term plans then he'd be more of a progress blocker than anything else. I am bummed they didn't grab Bailey.
