Classless, ignorant, and offensive statement. It's obvious his comment was to imply being homosexual is less preferable to being heterosexual. Anyone saying otherwise is being intellectually dishonest.

Padre, I like you, and you're a good guy, but as someone who hates straw man arguments:

The ITS INTOLERANT OF YOU TO BE INTOLERANT OF INTOLERANCE is the biggest strawman of all time.

It was neither of those things. Insensitive, sure. Ill-advised, judging by the reaction, most definitely, but it was not offensive.

I'm not sure how you take that away from his statement. 'SMH' inherently implies disfavor. It's clear he believes heterosexuality preferable.

Well, when sharing a view is labelled, then I do call that intolerance.

This is one of the problems I see in the US, to many people are just afraid to say what they think, or even question, whatever some other opinion group holds.

I prefer the free exchange of ideas with people free to accept or reject them.

And yeah VF, you're a good dude.

When did he bash Collins? I think it's great he came out and have no issues with homosexuality or being around those who are. But I love women and just like Wallace is saying I can't understand the attraction to men.

Is 'SMH' only to be interpreted as disfavor? Could it also not be confusion? Disagreement? Disbelief?

So? Shaking ones' head can also mean "I don't understand" which for a curious mind then seeks answers for and then decide if those answers are logical..to you..or not.

To any straight person, homosexuality would be less preferable than being heterosexual. To any gay person, heterosexuality would be less preferable than being a homosexual.

The only types that would not find one more preferable than the other would be bi-sexuals, no?

Not for anything.... just showed the tweet to a gay coworker. Told him that Wallace is getting blasted for it. He said the only thing Wallace did wrong was not realize how oversensitive people are and that he'd get torched for saying that. He said he saw nothing wrong or derogatory about it.

Oh please Pads. Luv ya but c'mon. Sure I have no evidence that this statement came from a place of "scholarly exploration"...but I would bet every cent I own, that it was more about "ewww, dudes doing it is gross."

And that is fine to think, but on the day that a crusader comes out for a huge cause in a still turbulent time, it's just in really really really bad taste.

There are certain things you do have to be careful about saying, unless you're a stand up comic or just don't give a crap about the consequences. Obviously, Mike Wallace doesn't fit into either category.

If Mike Wallace wants to be a homophobe, then that's his problem, but we don't have to allow that nonsense to be spewed without consequence. This notion that we must be tolerant of bigoted opinions is nonsense. The bigot is wrong. And if society wants to contiue evolving then the bigot has to elarn why he is wrong, and sometimes the way to start is through shame.

Tim hardaway is a perfect example. I loved the guy. Spent my entire high school and college careers watching him with the Heat. Seemed like a great guy. Then he made his extremely ignorant and bigoted comments. And he paid the price. He got fired from his job with the Heat, he was a national punchline and the object of scorn and that shame caused him to truly change. He didn;t just change his views to suit greater society, he changed beause he was realized he was wrong. And now, he has largely gotten back everything he lost.

And for every Hardaway there are people who never learned the lesson and likely never will and their careers will suffer for it. If you don;t believe this let me know the next time Mel Gibson appears as a leading man in a major hollywood film.

He needs to be put in a room with 10 butch lesbians who proceed to whoop his ***, maybe then he'll realize that it's not a choice.

I wonder if he makes fun publicly of children who are paraplegic..no difference, some strange things happen at conception that noone has control over.

So far, you've said two things more insulting that what Wallace twitted.

For you, being a Homosexual is the same as having a nationality and suffering a disease.

I wonder if Mike is going to be run out of town just like Guillen was for making those comments about Chavez. This is not a subject you step into IN MIAMI of all places.

This is why Mike now has to come out with a public apology, and maybe even enter the support group that some athletes have formed.

I know I'll get ripped for this but unless someone can show the actual science that proves homosexuallity isn't a choice at some point in one's life, then I don't see how it's fair to assume that it's not.

    Just saying.

Well, you brought up the Westboro clowns Padre, and while certainly they have a legal right to think and say whatever they want, and to unfortuantely protest the funerals, their views ARE NOT acceptable, period. They are a bunch of ignorant jerks who are lucky that they don't get their *sses kicked every time they show their faces. We do not have to be tolerant of their views because their views are simply wrong.

Now perhaps its better that they, the KKK and other like them are out there so the racism, etc. is broguht to the forefront, as you say.

Or, you projecting that on him.

Reality is, we have no idea what he was thinking, however b/c it does not fit whatever world view people may hold..oh the horror!

All I can say is, if you ever hang out with gay folks..they say much much worse ****...

Them fellas hardcore and I'll leave it at that, this is one of the reasons why I think this is all rather funny.

Hence, there isn't a right or wrong answer on it, which was my point.

Who's to say you make the choice when you're an adult and understand the difficulties? Could be it's as simple as when you're a little kid and you pick which color you like best. Who knows.

I'm a strait man who cannot think about another man in that way, however, I know there are gay people who feel the same about us..we both should know where the time and place is to make fun of each others preferences..

For him to get say what he did, after hearing about Collins admission to the public, just tells me he's probably prejudice against homosexuals and completely ignorant on the subject of homosexuality, and dumb enough to not figure it out on his own.

Exactly. That's the main point here. Do you or do you not? Some feel you do. Some feel you do not. You're just born gay.

Mike Wallace clearly believes it's a choice. I don't think he meant anything in disgust.

No, they should be viewed as different, but equal. Being gay does not warrant having someone shake their head at you. Baffling how this even warrants clarification.
