Jacksonville would be good for him too.

At this point, they can try one more year of Gabbert/Henne/Barkley and if none of them show promise they can go QB in round 1. If you get Barkley in round 4 you can afford to draft a QB with a 1st round pick the following year, unlike taking one in the 2nd round.

Barkley doesn't have enough character issues for Seattle.

I would still love to draft him but if we can't I want him to learn under Brees.

Barkley is an average talent with a great brain. If this were chess he'd be a first rounder but unfortunately it's a physical sport. He doesn't possess any elite trait to make up for all his average ones, and that's why he's still on the board. He didn't just suddenly lose talent; it's been missing all along.

Here's a question. How far will guys like Nassib and Barkley have to fall before the Dolphins take a shot on one of them? With all of the picks they have left, they can certainly afford to make that type of a move. We also would assume they did plenty of research on Barkley last year when they were looking to draft a QB and it looked like he would turn pro.

I wouldn't e upset with Barkley, look at the value Kirk Cousins has for the Redskins, Mallett for N.E.

We are not likely to draft a day 1 starter at this point so why not roll the dice.

That's entirely different. Joe Flacco came from Delaware but that didn't stop the NFL from making him a 1st rounder.

There were rumors Ireland had Barkley rated higher than Luck... Hate to be the guy to bring up those rumors, but they were out there.

Jonathan Franklin is an ideal fit for Miami. A trade up is in order followed by perhaps a QB.

I mean, if you want to make **** up, go ahead. Everyone had him as a top 5 pick last season. The NFL included. He returned to win with Kiffin at USC. Entering his senior season year, everyone projected him as the number one overall pick. Due to an apparent bad senior season, he dropped. Those are facts.

Barret Jones would not surprise me. Ireland said it himself in the fourth round if he sees a guy he likes that's still available he'll go get him and that's Barkley.

He worked out for 4 years as a starter. That's plenty of a workout and plenty of film. It's not like we're talking about a drop from 1st round to 2nd round; he's heading into round 4 so there's obviously a LOT more to it than you're trying to make it sound. It's a QB driven league where they're routinely overdrafted, so there's no reason for a team to not at least spend a 3rd on him unless they simply don't think he's quality starting material.

None of this kind of stuff prevented us from moving up for a Jordan who has minimal tape as a pass rusher in comparison, recently came off shoulder injury/surgery, and might start off on the PUP list who couldn't work out IIRC. If the talent is there a team would've taken Barkley, period.

BTW, how do you "know" he would've been a 1st rounder? Was there any NFL released information about this?

who cares? you don't think the NFL doesn't know this nor take this into account? You think he's the only QB to not have a great oline? Tannehill's receivers dropped a bazillion passes his senior year that affected his production & win-loss record but that didn't stop the NFL from recognizing his talent and making him a top 10 pick. Nothing about his ability is great. He's an average talent with a great head on his shoulders, period. There's nothing about that screaming top 10 NFL QB.

    OL Barrett Jones, Alabama

    SEC Championship (2009, 2012)
    BCS National Championship (2009, 2011, 2012)
    Wuerffel Trophy (2011)
    Outland Trophy (2011)
    Jacobs Blocking Trophy (2011)
    First-team All-SEC (2011, 2012)
    Unanimous All-American (2011, 2012)
    William V. Campbell Trophy (2012)
    Rimington Trophy (2012)

Since redshirting for the Tide in 2008, Jones has simply started 49 of the past 53 games,
earning action at right guard (25 starts), center (14) left tackle (10).

Despite earning first-team All-SEC honors (and third-team All-American accolades by the Associated Press)
in 2010 while at right guard, Jones was asked to move to the all-important blind-side tackle position in 2011 and starred there.
He earned the Outland Trophy as the nation's top lineman as well as the Jacobs Blocking Trophy (SEC's top offensive lineman) and was a consensus All-American.

Coach Nick Saban moved his top lineman once again in 2012; this time to the center position,
where the same intelligence, quickness, balance and surprising anchor Jones demonstrated at guard and tackle translated well.

Jones also won the 2012 William V. Campbell Trophy recognizing the "absolute best scholar-athlete" in the nation.
He was the first Crimson Tide player to capture the award.

Whether at tackle, guard or center, Jones has demonstrated that he's dependable against the elite competition in college football. Head coach Nick Saban has said on many occasions that Jones is one of the top players he's ever been around and has compared the 2011 Outland Trophy (nation's top interior lineman) to Hall of Famer Bruce Matthews. Considering his versatility and dependability (not to mention his coach's impressive recommendation), Jones quietly ranks among the safest prospects in the draft.

IMO, because Barkley has the potential to be much better than just a backup QB. I'd use a 4th on him, if he is on the board. He could be the #3 in 2013, and in 2014 maybe trade Moore and make Barkley the #2. IMO, as a passer he is just as good as Tannehill.

Sorry, but how can you actually think it is smart to put a mid-level draft pick into the most important position in all of sports when the player already at the position, whom shall go nameless, as a 5th year senior led the preseason #8 ranked team out of the top 25 to a 7-6 record (replaced the next year by a freshman who led basically the same players to an 11-2 record while moving to the SEC) while posting one of the worst 2nd half numbers in all of college football. Then followed that up by leading a team that finished 6-3 to a 6-9 record within the same system he had been a part of the previous 5 years , finishing 30th in QB rating while only throwing for 12 TD passes with a player who may develop into a legitimate NFL caliber starter?

Don't you know anything about football?

Let's just say that if Barkley pants out Ireland will have turned a 4th rounder into a potential first rounder. At the very least is saves cash to sign another player in FA that's more likely to be a sure thing (let Matt Moore go).

    great arm? no
    ideal size? no
great athleticism? no, certainly not RG3, Wilson, Luck, Tannehill, or Kaep
great feet? no, certainly not Drew Brees who has elite feet
great pocket presence? no, nothing like Brady or Brees
great ability to create when play breaks down? no, cant compare to Rodgers or Brees

he's decent in all these areas, but in order to be great he needs an elite trait or two to make up for all the averageness to get there. Otherwise he's a poor man's Chad Pennington--- a cerebral, accurate game-manager who doesn't quite have the talent to beat great NFL defenses.

If you have talent and can play, the NFL will recognize it and draft you, even if you're a QB from a small school like Flacco or Roethlisberger. Meaning these excuses about USC are quite silly. Small school Ben didn't even get to play against top competition in the Senior Bowl etc b/c he declared as a junior, but that didn't scare Pitt away from taking him 11th.

IMO Barkley is a bad example for those advocating drafting a QB to develop for security or to flip for picks. He has no great upside or great untapped potential that is just raw now but can benefit from sideline learning. He is a physically underwhelming QB that relies mostly on smarts.

IMO he'd be good for someone with a decent team that just looking for a solid player that is not going to cost them games with stupidity. The Jets, for instance, could have benefited from Barkley far more than from Geno.

If you guys want a QB project for safety or to flip later for picks, there are others who have a little more upside that could be looked at. Matt Scott from Arizona for instance.

My best case scenario would be Swope, Franklin, and Fauria, but if they get a WR/RB combo of any of the following: Patton/Rogers/Robinson/Harper/Stills/Wilson and Ellington/Taylor/Lattimore/Barner/Gillislee/James, I will be pretty happy.

The reason I brought up taking a Nassib or Barkley, is Ireland made some kind of comment recently about after a certain point, if a guy you don't need, but is rated highly keeps falling, you ignore need and take him. That's what they did last year with Miller, and I think if Barkley falls far enough it could be the case with him.

links that actual NFL teams had him as a top 5 pick please. Otherwise you're the one making stuff up.
No, NOT everyone projected him as the number one overall pick. That's media hype. Like I said, a bad senior season didn't drop Locker out of the top 10 so your excuse doesn't hold water. The only valid excuse would be if he started his junior season immensely talented and subsequently injured himself in such a manner that it significantly diminished his talent. If anything this season exposed more flaws in his game that weren't quite apparent the previous year.
