Option 1 is we trade away pick 54 to KC and get Brandon Albert in return. Another options is we tell KC to go screw themselves and we hold onto #54. If we do, what are we looking it? CB? Banks, Slay or Honey Badger maybe? Reason makes me think Honey Badger could be in play is that if we trade Bess we now have eliminated one of our return men. Honey Badger is a threat anywhere on the field in the return game. TE? Ertz if he is still sitting there? OT? To we maybe try to get Armstead or Bakhtiari? Then we head into the 3rd round with picks at 77 & 82. I assume Swope will be one of those picks. But what if pass on Albert in the 2nd round, use that pick on a CB, and then we have KC's back to the wall. The have to move Albert and we then give them a 3 (77) and a 7 for Albert. To me that is a huge win, win. We get a CB that we need, we get Albert, and we get Swope. Throw in Jordan and I think we are one of the big winners from the first 2 days of the draft. How do you see tonight playing out?
One of my hopes is Miami is able to bundle Bess is a trade up with one of the 2nd or 3rd round picks.
oh no we'd lose Bess as a punt returner!? NO! /sarcasm. Ok, thigpen DID muff that one punt against SF that might have cost us the game, so i do see the value in bess back there, but hes no game breaker for sure. Ertz or Banks would be awesome but we pick pretty late in the 2nd now so I don't see it unfortunately. I'd take honey badger, but its a huge risk.
I'd be shocked if we dont draft a T, or CB at some point tonight. That's about all I know. They are the two biggest holes on our roster right now, LT & CB IMO. Got to do something there, ASAP IMO
Cleveland picks at 68 in Round 3, so there is a possibility of swapping picks with them and getting a 6 back in return. No swapping of picks will probably return back a 5th round pick. Outside of that I don't see much interest for him in trade partners. Maybe the Lions at 65, but that is really it. There won't be any way to package Bess for a trade up in the 2nd round. He just isn't worth that.
In the post day 1 presser it seemed to me that Ireland doesn't think its a glaring need to take a CB that high, but who knows.
i'm not picking the foney badger .... ever. i guess JI was being truthful when he said he was targeting a few folks ... and was willing to do what it took to get them. that being the case, i would expect him to move up in RD 2 for Cyprien -S, Slay - CB or Armstead/Watson - T .... although i like Quessenberry in RD 3 (and i'm not sold on Armstead or Watson). i do expect us to draft Fragel - T in RD 5 as a project.
My hope is that Ertz or Kelce is there at 54. I want another tight end. Swopes will likely be there in the third round but I got a feeling New England will reach for him in the second round, for the Patriots they can reach and draft luxury picks like Swope. We still have some holes to fill especially at RT, and a red zone threat which is why I want Kelce or Ertz.
54 + Bess To Jacksonville for 26 year old stud LT Eugene Monroe and give that boy Jake Long money. 77 - Logan Ryan, CB, Rutgers 82 - Christine Michael, RB, Texas A&M 111 - Earl Watford, OG, James Madison 146 - Dion Sims, TE, Michigan State
Strategically, Egnew is a real PITA, we spent a decent pick on him, but he is massively raw, maybe so much so he won't see the field, but if you draft another Te, you make that a 100% reality
I say we began early 2nd round pick by packaging Bess and a 4th or a 3rd and 4th. We draft Jonathan Cyprien with our newly acquired 2am and we use pick 2b on Terron Armstead. For about a month or so I have really wanted us to draft Terron Armstead, and I hope Miami does just that
IMO KC caves in and lets Albert go for a 3rd. We package Bess and a 5th to grab a 3rd rounder. Brandon Albert. 2. Jamar Taylor or Jordan Poyer CB 3. Stedman Bailey WR 3. Travis Kelce TE 4. Shamarko Thomas. S
Its being reported that miami has not asked albert to report for a physical yet. Either ireland is playing some tough poker with KC or they are not as intersted in dealing as is being reported.
There is no way we wouldn't have already passed him on a physical if we are talking a draft pick trade.
I'd be surprised if we didn't draft a corner today, we really need one and there are a lot of decent ones still available without touching the silly risk that is the honey badger. To be honest i wouldn't be too disappointed if we went through the draft without adding a LT, we've still got Martin who was drafted to play there and we can sign a RT in Winston or Clabo. Also KC and Jacksonville both have top 10 LTs already on the roster in Monroe and Albert, it would surprise me if they wanted to keep them and the draft choices which puts us in the driving seat for trading for one of them, preferably for a third next year.
I honestly think we're just about done with DB's unless a good player falls a la Reshad Jones or Lamar Miller. Chris Clemons is very much a solid player who's replacement isn't imperative. Richard Marshall makes a fair amount of money and so does Dmitri Patterson. I think with the weight loss of Odrick, addition of Jordan and maturation of Vernon and Shelby we're confident enough in our pass rush to go without spending significant resources on a DB. I'd be happy with either one of those guys. I wouldn't mind Le'Veon Bell (RB) with our second third also. I'm willing to give Egnew more time. See if he can earn a spot this year while we have Keller for a one year period.
Fragel has a lot of upside. Only played one year of tackle at OSU, was a TE before that so has some athleticism. He needs coached up and time to bulk up, but he cd be a very solid RT. Also high character and good work ethic.
I am completely in favor of drafting Tyrann Mathieu, but I don't see the Dolphins ever touching a guy with those issues. I think he can clean up his act and he's a hell of a talent, but you know Philbin loves high-character guys.
Marshall and Patterson are nothing more than overpaid nickelbacks. No way we don't cut at least one of them.
